Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

I feel your lost Bromhead.Everytime I have lost a pet it's torn me up.I've had lots of pets and remember the good times wiith everyone of them .I do hope I'm with all of them again.
Mark

Iv been an SOB here at times to my regret,,thank you all for the kindness

Hi bromhead, sorry to hear about the loss of Bud, do you have a photo of him you could post on the forum. I know it may seem a bit disloyal at the moment but I also recommend getting a new pet. My Motherinlaw lost her little dog 'Minty' (Chihuahua /Fox Terrier Cross) in 2010, she wasn't going to get another dog as his death upset her so much at the time. She continued to pine for the spoilt little brat to the degree that her own health suffered. However she made a rapid recovery when I gave her my late wifes dog 'Annie' (Short legged Jack Russel) to look after.

Sorry to hear about the loss of your dog, Bromhead. It always hits you hard when a dog passes, they really are a member of the family.

sorry to hear about your loss. i am all to familiar with having to shepherd a good friend the the there after.

Bromhead, I am sorry to hear of your loss. It is so devastating to lose a beloved buddy like that. The word you use, agony, is exactly what I dealt with Friday evening when I had to send one of my feline family members on his way. It was crushing...the grieving so intense and relentless. We just have to cherish the times we have with them when we have them. But there's nothing like the pain of having to let them go and see the light go out in their eyes. Just think of the times you shared and the wonderful life you gave Bud. And when you're ready, make the trip to the shelter and save another life.

Hang tough,
Joe

So sorry to hear about your loss mate, I too had to go through what you are 2 years ago, over the Christmas I lost my 1st Collie he was 16 years old & had a good inings! We had prepared ourselfs knowing it was coming but it still hits you hard when you have to say goodbye.
It made it even harder when two months later our second Collie also passed he was just 8 years old & was a terrible shock, the vets said it was cancer but I still believe he just couldn't live without his bestfriend.

Bob 16, black & white, Ollie 8, grey & white,

I do agree with what everyone here says about getting another, originally we wasn't going to but the emptness of the house & no one greeting you at the door when you got home is enought to help you want to go down the shelter & find someone new who needs your help, & in time they will love you & you them as much as your last.
