JJD 2023 Advent Calendar Sketches (2 Viewers)

very original, this Syrian archer!
I hope that JJD will be heavily involved in the representation of the Battle of Kadesh.

there are more than fifteen different peoples on the Hittite side, not to mention mercenaries like the Syrians, as well as 2,500 battle chariots pulled by two horses and mounted by three warriors... the Lycians (Lukkas) were present, on the Hittite side, at the Battle of Kadesh..
on the Egyptian side, 4 divisions of at least 5000 men each bearing the names of the deities Amon, Re, Ptah and Seth including 500 tanks per division grouped into units of 25 tanks!
Let's hope that JJD will offer Shardan mercenaries (people of the sea) who were used by the Egyptians.
Several small series could see the light of day like the Lycians and the Battle of Troy!
for my part, I am won over by this theme!

Awesome collection P n P, would love to see that set up.
i have been thinking all day who this Mongol general reminds me of and it just came to me. The Mongol in the original Disney Mulan animation. He had a falcon and he seems similarly, winter attired.
Jas

it is also and above all in the Netflix TV series Marco Polo where we see this character, I believe, in the person of Kublai Khan...
I recommend this magnificent series if you want to know more about the Mongols

Cool looking figure. I love the Ancients. Looks like the Battle of Kadesh is going to be big

16 sketches in and I would get them all if they make it to an actual painted figure.

Looks like a great figure, but can someone let John know that Custer was a First Lieutenant at the time?

Good catch and duly noted. I have sent an email to John making him aware of the discrepancy. Thank you.

Mike

Custer was made BG,USV on 6/29/63.3 weeks after Brandy Station.

On a side, note, I had no idea that Custer went from cadet to 2LT to 1LT to CPT to 1LT to CPT to BG in less than two years. I'm about to pin CPT after a bunch of delays, so wish me luck with the BG promotion!
