Joe's collection (4 Viewers)

Here's a b/w photo of the figure. I enjoy in general how b/w photography has a completely different feel.

I finally finished my Boudicca, Queen of the British Celtic Iceni tribe diorama! The diorama depicts her rallying her soldiers as they head to Londinium (London) to fight the Romans around 60 AD. The figures are all 54mm Aeroart pieces from my collection. I hope you enjoy the photos!

Joe,

Just awesome diorama! :salute:: Things didn't turn out so well for Boudicca. The Romans were a tough bunch.

Fabulous work on your diorama base, very very much impressed with it. Though you need to lose the Celtic Cross for time period. Again very impressive work you've done on the base ! :salute::

Thatā€™s pretty amazing, actually freakinā€™ amazing. I love the part with the wolf (I assume itā€™s a wolf) and the skulls. Great attention to detail.

Joe
as I said to you privately, what a freakin awesome dio!!!

As an aside, earlier this year, I gladly took Joe's previous First Legion Retreat from Russia Diorama that was featured in TSMF magazine. Incredible is all I can say. My Stepdad proudly displays it in his home and in our Limited Xmas gathering this year, it received a lot of compliments and questions! It displays about as best as I have ever seen one!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you Louis! The Romans certainly were the mightiest of the mighty, but Boudicca's rebellion was no easy task for them to overcome. Joe

Gorgeous!

Wow Zach, thank you. You made my day!:smile2: Joe

Thanks Steve! Love your thoughts. You are correct about the cross, of course. But I took creative liberty in using it here. Rather than making a Pagan standing stone I wanted something that was immediately recognizable as Celtic, even though the cross is an embodiment of later Celtic Christianity. It's something I discussed with Harry Anderson as well. In the end I decided to use this cross with its ancient, sacred melded sun symbol because of the visual impact and for the part it played in the sub-diorama within the main diorama with the ceremonially stacked skulls, some skulls knocked askew, and the wolf. It's more of less the picture I had in my head. Thanks again your great comments and compliments! :salute:: Joe

Brad, I absolutely love your reaction!! Thank you so much! I loved making the section you like so much with the wolf and skulls. I bought the skulls from two different manufacturers so I could have some variety in shapes and types. I really enjoyed painting them and then placing them in the scene. It was a part I couldn't wait to work on! The photo I posted of this feature was pretty dark. I will post another image of this feature that is better lit. Thanks again, Joe

Tom, Thank you kindly. That is so awesome to hear that the Retreat From Russia diorama I made is being enjoyed so much! There is nothing more satisfying to an artist but to know his/her creations have found good homes where they will be cherished. It's generally why I create. I keep very little of it for myself. Your glowing words are a gift to read! It adds fuel to drive my future endeavors, so I thank you in many ways! Joe
PS: This dio will be featured in TSMF mag too with an article showing several stage of the dio in progress.

I have to repeat that your dios are awesome.I'm a terrain guy and I just love yours.

Mark, This certainly is high praise, thank you so much! Like you I love creating terrain and all the endless avenues of creativity it allows for. I particularly enjoy water features and try to work that into everything I do.

Wow stunning - and your version of Boudicca is the nicest I have seen - this makes me want to do this with my figures - if only I had any talent.

Joe, thanks for the additional photos. The wolf, skulls and cross by themselves would make a neat little dio. I know that the word ā€œdioramaā€ is bandied about but yours is truly a diorama.

Brad,
If I can get another wolf I maybe I will make that. :smile2: Thank you for your recognition about this truly being a diorama when that term is often used rather loosely.:smile2::smile2:

Joe,

I am at a loss for words to describe just how great your work is.
