King & Country Museum Under Construction (1 Viewer)

This is a view of the front of the main room looking out towards the Harbor. In front of the half wall built below the windows, an "L" shaped banquet will be constructed (covering the A/C ducting visible in the photo), wrapping around along the wall to the aircraft room (on the right of the photo). The banquet will be covered with a tapestry fabric in greens and tans with a 19th Century English hunting scene. A flat screen TV will be suspended on the opposite (office) wall (on the left side of the photo). A hunter green loveseat placed approximately where the photographer is standing completes the seating area at the front of the museum.

Thanks for posting pics of the construction of your area. It is nice seeing the progress being made. Leadmen

I bought all the light fixtures for the museum today. The electrician should be back to hang them next week. Once they are up, I'll post some photos.

Hi Louis
Thanks for posting progress shots,Because you have a large amount of wooden models How do you get on with climate control as its in your top story.Or is this not realy an issue.
Regards Rob

Have you thought about how your are going to display your soldiers. Is it going to be in order like WS1 through current or tanks only section and figures only section. I was thinking about mine and maybe I'll put US on one side and Germans on the other side and a mix for dioramas in the middle section.

Dear Rob,

You are absolutely spot on in asking about climate control, which is key to the preservation of the wood models. I have had the third floor completely connected to both the heating and central air of the house to keep a comfortable and safe temperature for the models. I intend to also hand a humidity gage and, if necessary, install a humidifier. Your point is well taken, and has been worked into the plans since the project commenced.

Alex,

You hit the nail right on the head. That is my exact intention. Anything not on a diorama will be put in chronological order divided by subject matter, with, as my collection is largely WWII, Germans on one side of the room and Allied Forces on the the other. Excellent suggestion!

I have to ask...what's a banquet? I only associate this with a group of people gathering for a dinner. Is it some sort of table or is it a built in shelf or what?

When the word is pronounced "Ban-ket" it refers to built in seating, such as a window seat, often with an opening seat and storage inside.

Sorry, my computer does not correct the spelling of French words, so it did not pick up the misspelling. "Banquette" it is from now on.

Hi Louis,

This is pretty nice I look forward to the completion photos. I wish I had the space to do something like this for my collection, someday...

Anyway it looks like a very good project and will be fun to see some day.

All the best

Dave

Oh so you guys meant 'banquette', no wonder Shannon and I were confused :)

Lol Yeah sounds posher than 'Bench'! In the hotel industry we used to call them 'Bonkets!' with the enfices on Bonk. You would find most married men in the edge of the resturant with their girlfriends/secretaries etc. They loved to hide in the curved 'Bonkets':D

Louis awesome set up.

Will have to take a rain check until 2008 as Mike and Sue are in Asia (sinapore etc) for 2weeks and i am looking after the 'stall' whilst they are away. bob is very busy at the mo with his business in HK.

The sheetrocking in the aircraft room is done, and the sheetrocking in the office is underway. The cabinet maker, John, will be in Thursday to install the Banquettes (spelled correctly, courtesy of Oz), and the electrician will be by sometime this week to hand the light fixtures, finish the recessed lighting, and put in the switch covers and light plug covers. My mother in law is arranging to have the carpet guy come to measure next week.

Really the only trade we are waiting on is the plumber to move the pipes from the solar panels on the roof, and install the heating system.

That banquette will be a beautiful bench for a buffet banquete from a bain-marie :)
