Let it Snow (1 Viewer)

A beautiful Spring day here near 70 but there are two days next week where we could get snow. This is a brutal time of year where you get a few nice days and think Winter is behind you and then suddenly the temps drop and it snows again.

It has been just about 5 weeks since the massive snowstorm in Texas.

So far the government, from the local level to the state level all agree that the lack of preparedness isn’t their fault.

Great job.

We had a few snowflakes come down a couple of days ago and lows were in the lower 20's. Hi today of 70 and 75 in the next few days. Chris

It's snowing at a decent clip here this morning. Not exactly a blizzard but the ground is white. My neighbor just opened his pool but I don't think he will be using it today.

Unreal that people have been trapped in VA on I95 for almost 24 hours. Compounded with the disaster at the airports. Things are really coming unraveled when basic services no longer function with every storm. This isn't even a major one.

Yeah things seem to be unraveling everywhere. Unreal^&confuse

I saw the footage regarding that; stranded for 10 hours on the highway/overnight due to an accident?

I95 looked like a sheet of ice.....................does the state of VA have plow trucks?

That's incredible........this is 2022, not 1922.......................how something like that can happen is beyond my comprehension.

And to think I used to do toy soldier shows in January-March..............I remember one I used to do in PA in March, one time I drove through a blizzard in PA to get there, the PA turnpike was shut down........the term soft as a grape comes to mind. I wouldn't do a toy soldier show in January-March now to save my life.........................

The DC/Northern VA area has some of the worst snow cleanup in the entire country. Compounded by a ridiculous amount of traffic and drivers who have no clue how to drive in winter conditions. A lethal combo that can result in traffic nightmares. I lived in that area for many years and any snow or ice results in chaos. Night and day compared to how PA cleans the roads. The one thing that PA does well is plow the streets.

According to what I saw, the stretch of roadway that was in question goes from the loop/495 down past Fredericksburg............I made that drive one time; during the Summer and it was beyond torture.

In snow; forget it. When it rains in VA drivers lose their minds, I can only imagine what happens in snowy conditions.

People can moan all they want about how they'd never live in the northeast due to cold/snow; this area of the country is warming up faster than any other area, winters here the past few years have not been bad at all, today it's 53 degrees, snow is expected on Friday, 3 to 5 inches..............which for other areas of the country would be a dusting/1 inch, no problem at all here.

George,

Are y'all about to get a Nor-easta?

John from Texas

They're measuring this one in feet, not inches..............my area may get 1 to 2 feet before it's over.................but don't worry everyone, I'll make my post office run early in the AM............followed by my stop at the Liquor store.....................:wink2:

To cold and dry here in south central Wisconsin to snow. It was -16°F here this morning when I woke (-34°F in Black River Falls, WI where my son lives). Don't even ask about wind chill!!! Still under a cold weather advisory. Brrrrrrrrrrr . . . .

Good luck George. The map shows the storm hugging the coastline. So Philly, NYC, and Boston get walloped if it holds true. I haven't heard the usual alarmist snowageddon panic here since we are off the track.

Yeah, we're along the coast, we're expected to get hammered.

It is what it is.

George,

Okay, I want to laugh here...the wife and I payed 1600 bucks for the electrician to install the hardwiring for the our new generator. The generator was another 15 or 1600 bucks ( don't remember) we tested the past weekend and it works like a champ! It has enough juice to power the fridge, one HVAC unit, the TVs and internet and most importantly the pool. We were giddy at our "end of days, Texas snowvid" preperations. Yes, we are prepared in the event of another Texas snow storm that shuts down the ENTIRE state. Oh, I forgot to mention that our tankless water heaters work on the generator too, so hot water too.

The way we looked at it was it cost us about 4K last year to fix all the busted pipes on the pool and some other stuff that I cannot remember, but we got out easy since none of the pipes in the house busted.

Yet, you guys are getting ready for "feet" of snow and it's business as usual. You would laugh out load at the amount of GENERACs that we installed this past year in our neighborhood.

So, we are all Gucci prepared.

John from Texas

PS: I got a generator cover coming in the mail...so its stored pretty.

John,
The situation you and **** tons of folks in the southwest were put through was criminal and something like that will convince people that they need a generator, it may never happen again, but if it does, you've got piece of mind.

Brad had a similar situation when hurricane Sandy ripped through NJ and he and thousands of others lost power for weeks, so he bought a generator; again, it's one of those things that you really hope you never need but are happy to have it in case you do.

I've thought about getting one but have not pulled the trigger; back in 1978 we had a storm of historic proportions, feet and feet of snow, the Blizzard of 1978, we never lost power, that's one of the advantages of living here, the power companies know how to deal with winter storms and the issues they bring. We've never had a storm like it since, but then again, are we on borrowed time?

Who knows.....................but, I am glad you are covered regardless.

Think of all that money allocated for "infrastructure" and we still have power outages that leave thousands in the dark and cold every time there is a storm. Like a third world country in many places. Back to the stone age. Much of that problem could be solved by burying the power lines. The electric grid is also easily susceptible to hacking. Just wait until China or N. Korea or some teenage kid turns the power off. Fun times.

Well this happens with every snow storm here in MA, not sure why today I was surprised when I went to the supermarket and it looked like a combination of the day before Thanksgiving and the day of the Super Bowl, parking lot mobbed, had to hunt around for a carriage, get inside, the deli is MOBBED.

Mostly wrecking ball housewives buying enough cold cuts to feed the Russian Army, God forbid their kids can't go outside for two days, so they need a stack of bologna four feet high to feed their rugrat kids.

The milk, bread, eggs were practically wiped out, I keep forgetting French Toast must be the food of choice during a snow storm.

All of this nonsense over a storm that will last about 16 hours and be over by Saturday night, the roads will be a bit tricky on Saturday, but they will be fine Sunday, but try telling these morons that.

On another note; I haven't been posting much around here lately due to a few reasons, mostly I have been slammed with business, which is a great thing, but I also tested positive for COVID, I had the sniffles, a slight fever and a slight cough, I've had worse colds, but I had to shut things down for 5 days and I was mostly just tired, so I was not on the forum much at all during that time, I'm fine now.

How I got it is a complete mystery, I wear a mask everywhere I go, I haven't gotten together with my friends to watch football in over a month, so no clue, unless some ******* who was sick with COVID touched something that I then touched, no clue really.

Thanks fellas to the several of you who reached out to me to check on me, just wanted to let the rest of you know.........................

Oh and one other thing; yes, I am done posting in the sports threads too BTW.

PERIOD.

Just when I was going to revisit the Patriots cheating in the Super Bowl and roll out "Belicheat" and "Shady" you are quitting the sports threads? Get better. This forum would not be the same without you.
