That is interesting news. I last spoke to Ken about a year ago.
Maybe we can send Martyn to speak to him at the London Show.
WHat would his business model be?
Making figures on demand or deciding on a set that would be popular and doing that.
With the prices Trophy are demanding on e bay it would make sense to re-release certain popular lines.

You've got a better idea than me about what would be popular. I'm sure he'd welcome the input.

With all due respect, Ken is not noted for responding to e mails and is also a bit elusive telephonically. Most of us here have spoken to him and purchased from him over the years. However the responses we have been given to our enquiries about the Trophy moulds have generally not been positive ones and none of us have come away feeling as if we are going to see Trophy back in production any time soon. He is usually at the London show and Martyn (GICOP) will be there. Martyn is a well respected Trophy collector so I am pretty sure he will speak to Ken. I do hope to see Trophy back in production soon. However I will reserve judgement until I see some Trophy figures back on dealers shelves.

Fair enough. But I think Ken bought the range to make money so if no one orders figures he won't make them! I think you have to understand that he isn't going to promise anything unless he can honor that promise. Untill about a month ago his whole place was a building site, now that's all sorted. The impresion I get is that people are chomping at the bit for certain sets, if that is the case is it not sensible to tell Ken which sets these are?

From what I can see the AZW is a major favourite.
Recently a the Storehouse at the Drift sold for 3000 USD on e bay.
Even regular sets of firing and loading 24 th Foot are hard to come by.
If he simply tries and puts everything back into production he will sit with stock as collectors would simply get over familiar with the sets. So no rush to buy now I will get it next year. I don't think he wants that. Making to order may also not be worthwhile. SO maybe the best is for him decide on a popular range (AZW or Sudan) and then make a limited number of key sets and sit back and wait for them to sell out. Perhaps limiting the run to a specific number (250 sets).
The Trophy range was so vast that I doubt if he will be able to get the entire lot back onto the market..
On this forum it seems that AZW and Sudan are the most popular ranges.
ACW does not seem to be that popular. Napoleonics are also quite popular.
Mike Laeding has no AZW or SUDAN or BOXER sets left. He says he has quite a bit of WWI, Napoleonics and ACW still. I am sure Martyn is taking note. I know he is after Sudan Camel Corp figures, so I am sure he will be speaking to Ken in three weeks time at the Show.

I'm taking note for Ken! By the way 1939 Four Feathers one of the best films of all time.

Martin,
Keep it up and I'll have to befriend you!:D
I'm sure that the Sudan/Egypt range would be hot right about now, in glossy to go up against the big guys like JJ etc... And include a copy of the movie to introduce folks to that era, and the real life characters!

trophy of texas has very little left in napoleonics. if ken does not do anything with the trophy molds i wonder what it would take to buy the whole line of trophy molds that he has? WHAT WOULD THEY BE WORTH?

Here is the link to the current website: http://www.maisonmilitaire.com/

The only active tab appears to be the email address.

If I recall correctly, the previous website had more information and images, including a section on the Royal Scots Greys in matte finish.

After 3 years, there must be something to offer.....

Sincerely, Raymond.

No idea ! you'd have to ask the owner.

I think there's a lot to offer. As I understand it, Ken payed a lot of money to someone to sort out a new web site that would be a modern all singing all dancing site where you could buy from the site . Once it was made it was nothing like it was supposed to be. At the same time he has been very busy sorting out the showroom and keeping up with orders, new ranges, shows etc. In the mean time I think something happened to the old site, ran out of time or something, anyway that shouldn't have mattered because the new site was promised to be sorted by then but it wasn't!

Hi Fellow Trophy lovers and a belated welcome to Martin on joining the Forum

I was off line early last night and have just picked up again on this thread

As an update I have spoken to Ken several times in the last couple of weeks and the situation remains the same, the US orders are continuing to be filled taking up all of MM capacity at the moment but things could change in the next few months. One of Kens own personal favourite periods is Egypt and The Sudan, fingers crossed for the return of the Camel Corps range. He told me about the massive display they had put on at the London Toy Soldier Show when Dragon Crest relaunched the Egypt and The Sudan range, over 60 figures from the Camel Corps for starters:eek:, set out in a huge diorama.

I will update everyone after I have seen him in at the London Show in a few weeks time.;)

Cheers

(The other) Martyn:)

PS Ken tells me he has several Trophy Alamo, ACW, Napoleon in Egypt sets in stock, no AZW or Egypt and The Sudan though

Hi All

I thought I'd just chime in here especially as my old pal Martin Tabony has got some of his facts about the Maison site a little wrong. The new Maison website is built, and in fact has been for over a year. Ken asked myself and my business partner Andy Whittaker (who many of you may know as current editor of TSC) to design him a new website about 3 years ago, we gave Ken a quote and nothing happened for a little while as he and we were busy with other things, around 18 mths ago he gave us the go ahead and we (www.darkmedialtd.com) set to work building it.

The site was completed within the agreed time frame with Ken (take note Martin :p) but unfortunately Ken didn't have images for most of the products. The products themselves were imported into the site from Ken's stock system however without images for around 80% of the products Ken decided not to put the site live and disappoint folks. We supplied what images we could, of sets that had appeared in TSC that Andy had photographed. Since then I believe Ken, and his family, when they've had time have been busy photographing sets and adding to the site. I'm afraid I can't confirm when the site will be totally complete but rest assured as soon as Ken is happy for us to switch the new site to "live" then we will gladly do it.

I hope that clears up what's going on with the MM website and all I can say is be patient and I'm sure the new site will be a vast improvement on the old one.

Thanks
Mark

PS - Martin, a lot of money for the site, I wish! And by all means post your apology to me for all to read :D alternatively you can buy me a pint at the show in a couple of weeks as I take it you'll be there?

Hello Mark, thanks for the phone call. I will happily apologise for any facts I got wrong and buy you a pint at the show. I'm now going back to doing what I do best!

Now, I have heard a similar story from a dealer here in Portugal... I guess these website builders (or whatever) are sometimes, well, not full proof:D.

If you get Ken to start churning out Trophy again pints will be on all of us for a long time yet.

Food for thought and by no means to distract, deter or generally bad mouth any future trophy molded sets. BUT, the big question always is, how will it compare to its Trophy originals. I personally think it is very hard to ever live up to the original painting, etc, all because of style. Each painter/sculptor has their very own style and that is quite hard to duplicate. Also, we are a diehard bunch of Trophy enthusiasts and we will probably be very critical. SO, my thoughts are I would love to see the moulds come to light once again, but in a way, I hope they will be different as nothing in my eyes will ever live up to the original in this case, it is just too unique.

Just my thoughts, again, I welcome the sculpts on the market yet again and can't wait!

Tom,

Didn't Trophy have more than one person painting their figures? Plus as a figure painter myself, I don't really see that it would be that hard to copy Trophy's painting style.

Maybe some of the other painters could chime in with their opinions about coping the painting style.
