MD's painted kits thread (2 Viewers)

Just catching up with what you are up to Dave. French figures gave me goose bimps - made me chilly Brrrrrrrrr . . . . . Looking forward to the progress on Lewis and Clark - these figures look really neat.

Thanks Mike. Glad you liked them. They have found a cozy spot in the cabinet now and I've already gotten a start on the intrepid explorers. Have to remember to take some photos periodically to show the process on these. :smile2:

The Grenadier with the Drummer Boy on his back made me chill, not kidding.
The look on their faces make it clear they know that their chances to reach the motherland are slim.
Stunning job, Mr. Dave.

Thanks Konrad. I was telling John (Obee) on another thread how much I enjoy working on these sort of cold and miserable subjects. Might be tempted to revisit this area. We shall see. At the moment I do have a partially assembled FIW era British grenadier walking through the snow. Maybe I ought to finish him up soon too.

As promised, here is an update on the Lewis and Clark project. I have a pretty good start on the faces and hands. Still some work to do blending around the eyes on Captain Clark for example. I generally undercoat the hair and headgear framing the face with medium grey like this. Will do the same with belts and straps and so forth over clothing. Also have a pretty decent base coat on the jackets at this point. Not a bad start for the weekend. :smile2:

Re: MD's painted kits thread-NAPS!!!

At long last I've wrapped these up and have some photos to post. A bit of a departure from Western U.S. this time and will be sort of all over the map in the next 6 months or so with various subjects.

These are both 54 mm kits from Andrea and were so nicely sculpted it seemed like they painted themselves at times.

MD,
That is a Great sculpt and you did a very nice job breathing life into it . I really like the look on the poor Drummer Boys face, you really caught the desperation in the way you painted his face really excellent job . Thanks for sharing your fine work..........:salute:: regards Gebhard

Hey Sir-

my chance to heap some kudos on you. I was looking at the set you just finished- the frozen troopers with the drummer boy. While it isn't guys running under fire, it shows some of the immense heroism these guys exhibited. That is an amazing set and you did an amazing job painting and assemblying them. Now, don't show off any more cold guys till July or August- I am getting ready for spring!! ^&grin

Thanks for the additional feedback Gebhard and Chris. Glad you have also found the looks of these guys to your liking. The drummer boy set was easily my favorite project to date.

As for cold weather projects, I think I am about done for now, so I'll have to put the H&A snow product in storage. :rolleyes2:

There won't be any snow, but the next one is a Fall setting so at least we are moving in the right direction. ^&grin

A great and promising start on your Lewis and Clark figures . . .

Thanks Mike. These 2 guys should go pretty fast as they are very straightforward without a ton of pokey little bits. Have not done much else yet, though Clark is now officially a red-head and I am set to start on the belts and straps tonight I hope. :smile2:

I am not sure about Chicago this Fall Wendy. It sounds like there is a modeler and painters show in addition to OTSN though. I'd appreciate more info on this event when you have a chance.

Sorry Dave, I've been a little distracted lately. :redface2:

Here's the website of the club that puts on the more connoisseur-ish figure show/competition in Chicago. This year it's October 14-16.

Edit: Mouse over the word website for an embedded link. Usually forums make the word a different color to show there's a link.

Thanks for the additional details Wendy. This is going to be very tempting as I would love to see all the really impressive work on display and put some faces and names together.

Lewis and Clark by La Meridiana

Finished these 2 figures earlier today. Bases are plain for now and will be decorated to match a custom base eventually. :smile2:

Really very nicely done Dave - I think these are your best results to date . . .
:smile2: Mike

Thanks Scott. What are you putting together now?

MD

A mounted Music Director and a mounted drummer of the Royal Horse Guards. It is my first set of castings and I am finding assembling them rather daunting. I have finshed the first horse so on with the priming. I should be okay after that is done.

Here's another completed item off the work bench today. La Meridiana again and this one features a FIW era Frenchman with some new H&A scenic items featured on the base. Hope you like....:smile2:
