MD's painted kits thread (2 Viewers)

Very nice Dave, not only the painting of the figures but also the bases you place them on are beautiful in their own right. I really should pick up some castings of some sort and paint a few if nothing more than to just give me something to do.

Looking forward to seeing the next batch.

MD...

Excellent painting this set looks superb. As others have said the bases also look great.

You really are improving greatly from figure to figure. When you start doing comission work let me know. All the best.

Thanks for the feedback guys and glad you like the base I've done for this one. I have grown fond of using bits of homasote for the bases as it is easy to work and gives a fairly nice effect texture wise. I had a bunch of this left over from a diorama one of the kids made for school last year and for a couple of bucks a 2x4 foot panel makes a very economical solution.

I have alluded to this before, but I have also been experimenting with applications of wood glue mixed with water, dirt, and shavings from the homasote and floral foam to provide ground texture and you can see the effect on the base in progress photos on this latest project.

Also I cannot say enough how great the H&A snow product is. For thicker snowcover you literally mix in water to achieve the desired consistency and then apply it like frosting. Or for lighter dusting it can be sprinkled onto a glue coated surface like with other snow products. I have a number of snow scenes in mind now as a result of this experience.

Scott, you know I would definitely encourage you to get a couple of inexpensive kits to muck around with. You might find the learning curve to be surprisingly steep and easy and it opens up nearly endless options depending on your areas of interest. If you want any advice there seem to be a lot of talented people lurking here.

Mark, I would consider doing some things for you at any time so just let me know what you are thinking of by PM or email and I will let you know if I am up to the task or not....

Nice job Dave. The details like the stitching look very nice. The extra effort on the base makes all the difference too. :)

Hi Dave,
you did a very, very nice job on the Lakota Sioux Warrior. It is a great kit, and you brought it to life with very fine painting and great work on the base.
A real pleasure to see your skills growing by each miniature you're showing us.
Congratulations! You are really getting good at it.

The collections growing - a group photo would be good. :)

You have done an incredible job painting that Souix Hunter Dave. Just brilliant . . . .
:) Mike

Thanks lads. It is becoming a rather infectious past-time for me and so this should be a very productive year from the looks of things. Got a bunch more stuff coming in the mail in the next week or 2 including some non-Western US related things.

And Jeff, I like the group shot idea, so I'll see what I can manage....

Looking forward to that Dave. :)

Alright Jeff, ask and you shall receive.....in this case a couple of quick group shots though found it difficult to pose the group in a way to show much detail.

This though, is the output since mid Sept 2010 I guess. Not counting the things in progress on the table I had to hide for these photos....

Dave,

That's a good rate of painting, I've slacked off again due to work.

Looking forward to seeing the newbies.

Thanks :)

Alright, so now for the "new guy".

I have wanted to do this guy for a long time and it was great to finally put him together. Here are a few shots in progress including another custom base. He came with a bland looking cube of resin and I knew I wanted to use more of the H&A snow so I improvised.....

This is a 54 mm kit by El Viejo Dragon by the way....
