Hope you and all members are safe mate!

It's insane that a lot of houses are lost in the USA due to extreme winds. I've heard this before but if your houses were built like British houses - good quality bricks and mortar on a stronf base there maybe less chance of this happening!

Stay safe cousins!

Great to hear Mike! Now you can kick back with a margarita and build some more dio's in peace! {sm3}

Louis...

I'm fine...it hasn't rained here in 2-3 hours...the wind is insignificant...

I lost a few shingles...there's some small debris to clean up...broken branches mostly...

Carlos and John would be getting more than me probably as Harvey has moved north west towards San Antonio...

it's downgraded to a Tropical Storm now...with winds under 74 mph...

Galveston...so far...has escaped anything major...

the storm is supposed to do a backwards loop going south and then proceed north again...

but will continue to rain heavily on anything in it's path til Tuesday/Wednesday causing flash flood and flood alerts...

we had 1 tornado...no flooding here to speak of...

I have been working in the garage today...
and it looks like life as usual for my neighbors...
people jogging...
cleaning up their yards...
cars moving around...
etc...

I think there was 1 fatality so far...not here...but somewhere in the areas hit with tornados...I believe they perished in a house fire...

thank you and thank everyone else for your concerns and worries over me...

I'm totally flattered and amazed over the the awesome friends I have made from this hobby and website...

Good summary Mike.

The weather in San Antonio has been rather benign today. lite winds and rains today. We haven't experience any thunder or lightning which is typical.
However, it has rained periodically all day and there have been a couple traffic accidents reported.

Mike,

My son Alec, who has been following the story of the hurricane wanted to mKe sure you were okay, and I couldn't be happier then to show him your post. Now let's make sure Carlos and John make it through okay!

My, my Texan friend . . . . I just got back from up north helping my son build his log cabin . . . . been totally isolated since this past Wednesday . . . . Glad to hear you are ok and safe . . . .
:smile2: Mike

Great to hear Mike!!!, so far so good, hopefully the worst is over, and yea we may all moan and groan about this and that as toy soldier guys but in the end there are a ton of great guys/gals in this hobby!!!!!!

I said it before...I'm gonna say it again...

thank you all for you concern...camaraderie and offers of hospitality...

TOY SOLDIER GUYS RULE!!!

I think it's over as far as Galveston is concerned...

much ado about nothing...

not taunting Mother Nature...but I think/hope were in the clear even if this thing back tracks...

kind of anticlimactic in a way...but a good thing for me...the anticipation was not on par with the ending...

those of you who purchased the Mayweather/McGregor fight tonight might feel the same way...^&grin

thank you all again...

Mike,
Glad to hear it, I was watching the weather here on the national news and it looked bad, they were talking 3 feet of rain, unbelievable. Happy to know you made it through fine, must be a huge relief for you, hope the other folks in your neck of the woods are making out ok as well............

Thankfully, so far San Antonio has just been grazed by the storm (knock on wood).

On a personal note, watching the storm from California while my wife and family have been in its path has been one of the worst things I have ever experienced. The helplessness has been immeasurable.

My thoughts and prayers are with my fellow Texans.

Mike,

I am sooo glad you are good to go! Kinda of steady when it comes to the rains, HOWEVER COMMA the winds have wreaked a little havoc in the form of downed power lines, signs, etc. Cleaned the garage spotless yesterday and went to my shop to check for damage and this part of SA was like a ghost town. Nobody on the roads excepts cops, fire dept. and utility workers. It still ain't over and the only question now is if the kids are going to school mañana.

It would have been a lot more exciting to take a chopper into Galveston and "rescue" you! Ha, Ha. So, that brings up a question Señor:

Which toy soldiers would you have brought with you?

John "two hours by Chopper" from up the road Texas

this sucks big time...
the rain just keeps coming and coming...
it's relentless...
Harris county (south Houston)...30 miles from me...
had 650 billion gallons of water dumped on it yesterday...
6-8 inches per hour..
22 inches in the last hour...
not supposed to let up til Wednesday...
several people have drowned...
people are taking refuge in their attics...
no where else to hide...
no where else to go...
unless you have a boat in your garage...
which is dangerous if you can't get out...
cars get on the highway and can't get off...
all the exits are flooded for miles and miles...
winds are minor...
30-50 mph...
but the drainage systems are full...
no where for the water to go...
the rain just keeps coming...
cities are going underwater...
where's Noah when you need him...
wish this thing would play out...

Louis...
I think so...for loss of life anyway...I'm safe...
I'm not ready to leave this Earth yet...^&grin...
some flooding here...so...I don't know...
it's definitely raining here...but minor flooding...not like Houston...
HWY 45 and I-10 are flooded...closed...no escape for anyone anymore...
I rebuilt my downstairs 9 years ago after Hurricane Ike...
Galveston went underwater...
some areas 14 foot...
my house is newer...built up higher than most...
I had 2-3 foot of salt water in my downstairs...
salt water is extremely corrosive...
lost everything on the ground floor...
insurance company just threw money at me so they could move on to other claims...
they were so swamped...
my adjuster was from Georgia...
they were hiring anybody they could find to settle claims...
I don't want to go through that process again...
I wish it would quit raining or at least slow down...

here are some interesting pictures of Galveston...

which had a direct hit from the 1900 Storm...

it was a Category 4 just like Harvey that hit Corpus Christi the other day...

Harvey is no longer a hurricane...just a slow moving system (1 mph) that is dumping rain unmercifully...

the loss of life was staggering from the 1900 Storm...

It remains to the present day the deadliest natural disaster in US history...

estimating 6,000 to 12,000 fatalities...

Mike,

I lived in Beaumont for a couple of years, and had heard about the terrible hurricane in 1900, still the worst natural disaster in U.S. history. Since then, Galveston Island was raised more than 17 feet and a sea wall was constructed to help protect the good people of Galveston from hurricanes. I hope it's working!

Mike,

Are you still hanging in there? My son Alec is watching the news, and he told me Texas is in for 5 days of rain.
