Here is another special, non-catalog band set that I commissioned from Hiriart based on Set 1131 TIRAILLEURS ALGERIEN TURCOS, L'ARMEE D'AFRIQUE.

Really beautiful set of Turcos, Mike. The variety of color and style of the French related uniforms never ceases to be pleasing to me. -- Al

Another special, non-catalog band set I ordered from Hiriart was based on Set 1165 POMPON ROUGE FRANCAISE, MERS FROID. The bagpipes and the banner on the trumpet are nice touches.

Yet another French themed, special, non-catalog Hiriart band set that that I have in my collection is based on Set 1156 CHASSEURS ALPINS FRANCAISE. One of the nice things about Hiriart is that they will make a band version of any of their regular catalog sets.

This is a Hiriart catalog set that I have in my collection: 1332 SWEDISH HORSE GUARDS MOUNTED BAND. It was originally ordered by Bob Walker as a non-catalog special and was subsequently added to their catalog as set 1332. I ordered it with an extra trumpeter so that I could display it 1 x 3 x 3 x 3 while Bob ordered it with two extra trumpeters and two extra musicians so he could display it 1 x 4 x 4 x 4. This is the only Swedish themed set I have, but I hope to pick up Frontline Figures Swedish Infantry from the Seven Years Wars when they come out with them.

Although I have about a dozen Hiriart Latin American themed sets in my collection, this is the only mounted set amoung them: Set 1157 BLANDENGUES DE ARTIGAS, URUGUAY. It makes a very colorful presentation.

This Hiriart non-catalog set that I have is very similar to an earlier W. Britains set: THE ROYAL BERKSHIRE REGIMENT. Hiriart has also done these Berkshires as a band, but I don't have that set. This is also the only set I have from any manufacturer where the figures are wearing this particular British dress uniform. JB probably knows what it is offically called, but what ever it is, it is very handsome.

Some very neat looking sets! I especially enjoy the figures from SA since they have such colorful uniforms. Thanks for sharing these with us Mike. By the way did you decide to get anything from Joseph Kober in Vienna?

That is "Number 1" Dress, Mike. Almost universally kown as "Best Blues" amongst the lads. Not very comfortable - due to the high, stiff collar. Not issued nowadays - so some Regiments buy them ( or sometimes borrow them - and re-badge them) - to be worn by selected personnel on special occasions. I only ever wore a set once - for a Royal visit to our Regiment - and my set was such a borrowed uniform, which was cleaned and returned to the owner. jb

Hi Dave,

Thanks, I am glad you are enjoying them. Originally, I didn't collect South American sets from Hiriart (or anybody else, for that matter) until Bob Walker started ordering them and I saw how interesting and colorful they are. Now, I am hooked. Hiriart has both military acadamies and 19th century historic uniforms in their catalog, so I collect both. I currently have 12 sets from nine different countries in my collection plus I have another 11 sets on order from Hiriart, including those from three additional countries (Paraguay, Columbia, and Venezuela).

It is my pleasure to share them with you. No, I haven't picked up anything from Joseph Kober yet, but thanks again for the catalog.

Mike

Thanks for the information JB; very interesting stuff about the Number 1 Dress uniforms. I also noticed that Hiriart's Berkshires were carrying Lee-Enfield rifles from the first half of the 20th century. BTW, I don't believe I ever saw you make reference to what regiment you served in. Which one was it? The U.S. Army was fairly straight forward regarding our dress uniforms which were called Class As. In the winter, we wore Class A greens and in the summer, Class A khakis with one of the two types of green caps from the winter uniforms. Luckily, I never had to share them with anyone.

This is Hiriart's Set 1275 ACADEMIA MILITAR ELOY ALFARO, ECUADOR. The gray and black uniforms with various colored plumes make an attractive combination. I also have a second flag bearer with the Eloy Alfaro academy flag plus two more yellow plummed escorts as add-ons to this set.

While it wouldn't be practical to collect every British Regiment, I have attempted to acquire Hiriart sets that represent many of the various uniforms worn. This is Set 1175 THE KING'S OWN SCOTTISH BORDERERS wearing their red tunics, trews, and blue helmets.

This is Hiriart's Set 1054 THE DUKE OF CORNWALL'S LIGHT INFANTRY wearing their green uniforms with black pants. The bugler is wearing a different uniform with a red tunic and a green helmet.
