Phillies getting some clutch hitting from bottom of the order.

The long layoff has hurt the Braves and the Astros. They need to rethink this three game WC playoff. 1 game was sufficient.

The more games the more money Brad. When I was a kid if you won the pennant you were in the World Series which I think is the way it should be. You through that long season to be beaten out by a team that lost 10 more games than you did just doesn't seem right. I guess I'm just a traditionalist.

A little surprised, but not shocked, that the Phillies beat Atlanta in game 1. I am stunned, however, that the Mariners beat the crap out of Verlander. The post season is a different animal. We've seen 2 of the most dominant pitchers in recent years, Scherzer and Verlander, have poor games in these playoffs. Even the best pitchers can come up short in the playoffs. Witness the 2 HoFer's, Maddux and Glavine, who dominated during their spectacular careers, except in the playoffs. Both of them ended their careers with sub-.500 lifetime records in the post-season. Yep, a different animal. -- Al P.S. - Just checked on Verlander's and Scherzer's post-season records. Verlander currently is 14-11 (soon to be 14-12) in the playoffs but is a horrendous 0-6 in WS play. Scherzer is 7-7 in the playoffs, 1-0 in his 3 WS games.

Astros bailed out Verlander in the most spectacular way possible with that walk-off Hr. Wow. I can hear the wrists being slit open in Seattle as I write this. The Seattle manager blew this one, big time. Violated a basic pitching commandment...Don't change your bullpen habits just because it's post-season, ie., don't use a starter to close. Jeez. How many times have we all seen that move blow up? I'm surprised Seattle hasn't already fired the manager.:rolleyes2: -- Al

Al...I'm not gonna second guess a manager...they have surely forgotten more about baseball than I will ever know...after saying that I won't second guess a manager...I honestly thought they should have walked Alvarez...what a back breaker that was for Seattle fans...tremendous comeback for the Astros...Seattle smacked Verlander around to the tune of 10 hits and 6 earned runs in 4 innings...I'm sure his worst start of the season...

What a dramatic win, wow.

A no doubter for sure; the one guy their line up you can't throw a fastball twice to (well, there are others too............), he did not miss it a second time.

What a talent that kid is.

The Gashouse Gorillas finished second in the AL, yet they get the easier draw in the ALDS vs what Houston got, the Guardians stink.

Seward was originally a Met and they gave him many chances until they finally lost patience with him and let him go. I know he had some success with Seattle but I would never trust him in a big spot and today he showed why. I don’t think the Mariners recover from this debacle. I could see a sweep taking place.

LA is more than handling SD so far. This one could be over quickly too.

I made it to the bottom of the 7th inning in the Dodgers game before calling it quits. It was almost 1AM at that point. Ridiculous. I gather they hung on to win.

The Dodgers were totally outplayed in the first two games. Lucky to get a split. The Padres' bullpen has been impressive. The ghosts of Dodger playoff woes are now up against SD's ability to choke.

Having a long layoff hasn’t helped the division winners. The WC series is completely unnecessary; the format they had before was fine but we know the reasons for the extra one or two games: $$.

To your point, short a ninth inning miracle in Houston, it should be 1-3 for teams that got byes.

Only the gashouse gorillas had an easy time, the guardians offense is offensive, that series will be a sweep.

Yes, 162 games are not enough for the owners. No excuse for the Dodgers, though. They dominated SD during the regular season. No way Kershaw, with his long history of playoff collapses even during his prime, should have started game two. The last thing they want is to give SD life and confidence. They needed to bring down the hammer. Now this series may go five and any crazy thing can happen.

Quasimodo is 0-7 vs the Indians in this series so far.

With 7 K's.

The big oaf is coming up small; which means he'll hit a ball to France in his next at bat, or 318 feet down the right field line for a home run at Williamsport East.

I may regret wishing for this...
but if............a big if............the Astros can get one more win and get by Seattle...

I would feel their chances of beating Cleveland are better than facing the Yankees...
still...you never know...they could lay an egg against either team...

The Astros over the year proved they were the best team; whoever they face in the ALCS should they advance (never count those chickens when it comes to sports), they will be favored.

My Phillies are doing good but I bet it goes to 5 games.

I find it hard to believe the Dodgers are losing this series to SD. If they lose it, the regular season has become meaningless.
