Fate can be cruel. I missed the start of last nights NYY game, and thus missed the history making Hr by Judge, who bats lead-off. Oh well, that's what they make video replays for. Congratulations, Mr. Judge. I was lucky enough to be around for Mr. Maris and now Mr. Judge. What a ride. Interestingly enough, the NYY's have owned the AL single-season Hr title since 1920, when Ruth came over to NY, and hit 54 Hr's, most ever at the time. Ruth then upped the anty in 1921 with 59 Hr's and there the record sat until Ruth's fabled 1927 season where 60 Hr's became the benchmark until Mr. Maris set the mark with 61 in 1961. To be specific, NYY rightfielders have held the record for 102 years. Pretty special. Thanks guys, it's been a blast. -- Al

O's finish 83-79, a 31 game improvement over 2021. Not too shabby, even though they ran out of steam and played under .500 the last 5 weeks at 15-18, they stayed in the race until the last couple of games. Looking forward to next year with Means back on the mound and another year of experience for the youngsters that drove this team all year. Congratulations to the O's on an unexpectedly good year. -- Al

I bet the Cardinals, Blue Jays and Mets are all glad they changed the format from one and done to best out of 3, it's do or die for those three teams today.

Didn't watch any of it aside from pop ins on the Mets/Padres game; Max was featuring two pitches last night, balls and home runs, he looked off from the bits and pieces I saw.

The Padres aren't exactly the Bronx Bombers lead by Quasimodo and Mongo when it comes to the home run ball.

Best of luck today, we've got a fund raiser for Breast Cancer awareness month to attend today, so I'm out.

So glad the Dodgers let Max go instead of signing him to some massive contract. He still has talent but the old "my arm is tired" in the playoffs doesn't cut it. I have faith that the Padres will still choke, though. They are cursed by those McDonalds' themed uniforms.

So far it’s not looking like a wise investment. He came up short last week against the Braves last week as well as yesterday. However, he’s not the only problem. The team hasn’t hit for the last six weeks. All the problems they exhibited last week — poor starting pitching and lack of hitting — showed up last night. Things don’t look promising and today might be de Grom’s last appearance in a Met uniform.

So he's not going to resign then?

That's too bad; best of luck today, it's not over until the final out, keep the faith.

Mets are the only team to take advantage of the new 2 of 3 playoff format. Everyone else went 2 and out, hardly more compelling than one and done. Plus, once again, the bullpens were key as the Cards and Jays suffered horrendous pen failures. Must say that the Cleveland series was a most impressive display of post-season clutch pitching, by both teams. Now, who wins the Mets v Padre series? Both teams spent big time and it all comes down to their #3 starters. In this one, I like the Mets. -- Al

Even though I've been a Phillies fan all my life I was kind of rooting for the Cardinals as it would have been a great way for Pujols to end his career. It still looks like Dodgers vs Astros but you never know in a short series.

He’s going to opt out of his contract. He feels that he should be paid like he’s the best pitcher. Since Scherzer is paid $43 million per year, he wants that and more. He probably feels stronger about that now since he saved them last night. Ego. A lot of fans have turned against him because of that. In addition, he’s from Florida and he may not be enamored with the NY vibe although he did say he wanted to win last night’s game for the fans. Atlanta (ugh!) and Texas are real possibilities. He said last night that it crossed his mind that it might be his last start in a Mets uniform. Cohen is very persuasive so we’ll see what happens when the season is over, whenever that may be.

It would be a shame if the second or third best pitcher in the history of the franchise left but that’s baseball today.

The Dodgers would probably prefer to play SD. They have owned them this year. Makes the road games shorter and warmer. Good to see this series go three and ruin the pitching rotations for the next series.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why I never bet money on sporting events. I have an uncanny ability to end up on the losing side. Never would have bet that the Mets would lose a 3 game series with Mad Max and deGrom on the mound. I knew by the age of 16 never to bet sports, after Super Bowl III shattered all my illusions.:rolleyes2: -- Al

Now that the wild card round is over I am going to go out on a limb and say that the Dodgers are going to win the World Series.

Unfortunately, they played average in September when they had a very easy schedule (swept by Chicago) and when they were swept by the Braves last weekend where they pitched and hit poorly, it wasn’t hard to see this coming. It doesn’t make it any less disappointing, just predictable. A good season up in smoke.

The playoffs are a whole different ballgame as Dodgers fans know all too well. None of those regular season wins or runs translates to the playoffs. Lesser teams can shorten their rotations and get lucky. The Dodgers rolled the Padres in the regular season. A better matchup for the Dodgers than the Mets. The Braves, Astros, and Yankees are all tough. Anything less than winning the WS will be a major disappointment, though.

Brad, I know it ended in disappointment, but the Mets had a heck of a season. Truth is, the season always ends in disappointment for all but one team. April isn't that far away... -- Al

Congrats to Judge for number 61!!! Hope to see him get 62 and break the actual Homerun record!! Not that bullshit Bonds, Sosa, Mcquire record...glad to see Roger Maris Son there to Congrate him and to speak out against the Roid HR record

Three class acts: Roger Maris' son paying his respects to Aaron Judge and Albert Pujols. They all did it honorably.

Steve

The Dodgers' game doesn't start tonight until almost 10PM on the east coast. It probably won't end until 1AM or so after a dozen pitching changes. I'll read about it tomorrow.

Aw, c’mon on. You’re a Dodger fan. You can sleep in November. Then it will be basketball and hockey season and a long wait until February. I’m staying up for it.
