THE WALKING DEAD---showrunner Scott Gimple said Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Danai Gurira) are returning for an untitled six-part AMC miniseries. Lincoln said, "This has been the most extraordinary journey playing Rick Grimes for the best part of a decade. The friendships I’ve made along the way are deep and lasting, so it’s fitting that I finally get to complete the story with Danai and Scott and the rest of the TWD family. STAR TREK---at San Diego Comic-Con, director Kevin Smith asked William Shatner if the current STAR TREK shows are comparable to the original series, and Shatner replied, “None of them."

In the story titled "An Evening Like the Others" which was directed by Vittoria De Sica, Eastwood is a Western movie fan and pretends to be a gunslinger to impress his disinterested wife, who engages in fantasies of her own. THE WITCHES was bought by United Artists and was never released outside of Europe. United Artists kept the movie in its vault to prevent it from being seen, supposedly because Eastwood's nebbish character would undermine his gunslinger image in his popular spaghetti Westerns.

TRIVIA---Otto Preminger's 1959 courtroom drama ANATOMY OF A MURDER starred Jimmy Stewart, Ben Gazzara, Lee Remick and George C. Scott. The movie was controversial because it included words including "panties", "****", "rape", "b*tch", "sperm" and others. Stewart's father was offended by these aspects of the movie and called it a "dirty picture" and reportedly place an ad in his local newspaper urging people not to see it. Jimmy Stewart commented on the movie's controversy, “I was puzzled why so many people thought ANATOMY OF A MURDER was in bad taste. I never understood why some people thought it was offensive. I thought we handled the whole thing very delicately.”

One of my favorite movies. This movie was about an actual murder and some of the jurors from the trial were in the movie. You could go to the bar where the murder took place and have a brew while gazing at the chalk outline (now paint) of the victim. Don't know if the bar still exists.

SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY---writer Lawrence Kasdan commented on a possible Disney+ tv series based on SOLO, "No there’s not any talk of that. I’ve never been particularly drawn to expanding [SOLO] into a show. But, I do talk to Jon [Kasdan] and Ron [Howard] a lot about what went right and what went wrong with the Solo experience. I would be more interested in doing another movie, not a TV series."
Also, Taron Egetton confirmed he almost played Han in SOLO, "I felt that– I mean, I’ll be honest, I got on the Falcon. I was with Chewie. I was in the full costume… and I… you know what, that’s what I felt like. I felt like I got there, I did it, I lived it. And there was one more… there was another round that I decided not to do. II: THE SEQUEL as the man who accidentally cuts himself while shaving during the Mayflower space shuttle's bumpy flight.
Berenson later became a producer and developed another airline movie, SNAKES ON A PLANE, starring Samuel L. Jackson. It was originally titled VENOM, "I optioned the script but used it really as a jumping-off point. I became fascinated by the idea of combining two of our greatest fears--air travel and snakes--and that's when I came up with the title and started brainstorming". THE WAGER---Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese will reunite for this Apple movie based on the upcoming book THE WAGER: A TALE OF SHIPWRECK, MUTINY AND MURDER in which the British warship HMS Wager was shipwrecked off the coast of Chile in 1741 during a storm. Most of the crew mutinied and set off in a boat and later became heroes for their enduring struggle to survive. When members of the original crew accused them of mutiny, the British Admiralty began a special trial to investigate what really happened.

The US did not have a national women's soccer team, so a search led to a rag-tag women's high school soccer team in Dallas coached by Bill Kinder.

THE PENGUIN---Colin Farrell commented on the untitled HBO Max spinoff series and Matt Reeves possibly returning, “Matt’s up to his bollocks, you know, hovering over the keyboard and just planning the story because he’s just so meticulous. He’s so obsessive about what he does, but he’s all over [HBO Max’s] The Penguin [series] as well. I mean, he’s not gonna direct it but he’s all over the structure of the scripts and who’s gonna direct them. And so, it’s exciting.”
Farrell also commented on if he is interested in returning, “Oh my god, you kidding me?! It’s so much fun, are you joking [with] me? I’ve been around the block man. That was an easy sport, I mean… it was a joy.”

Sam Neill auditioned for the James Bond role to replace Roger Moore in THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS. Co-producer Michael G. Wilson said, "All of us were impressed with Sam Neill, and very much wanted to use him. He'd been very successful as REILLY: ACE OF SPIES. Like a lot of things in life, it was a close race." However, Wilson's step-father, Cubby Broccoli, turned Neill down in favor of Timothy Dalton.
Neill said, "I did that with extreme reluctance. I think that was the last thing I allowed my then agent to bully me into. Because I said to her, ‘Listen, I do not want to be James Bond. And I particularly don’t want to be that James Bond that everybody says, ‘Look, there’s James Bond in the corner of the restaurant. He’s the one I don’t like.’ So I turn up to Pinewood, I do this audition, the entire thing was mortifying, and luckily I never heard from them again."
Neill not getting the 007 role may have allowed him to get the role of Dr. Alan Grant in the JURASSIC PARK franchise. If the audience doesn’t like it, that’s the f*cking audience’s problem. It’s not running for public office. It’s an NC-17 movie about Marilyn Monroe, it’s kind of what you want, right? I want to go and see the NC-17 version of the Marilyn Monroe story."

BATMAN---Michael Keaton said he has not seen a Marvel or DC superhero movie in its entirety, "I know people don't believe this, that I've never seen an entire version of any of those movies - any Marvel movie, any other. And I don't say that I don't watch that because I'm highbrow - trust me! It's not that. It's just that there's very little things I watch. I start watching something, and think it is great and I watch three episodes, but I have other ***** to do!"

CINEMA PARADISO---Giuseppe Tornatore will write and direct a tv miniseries based on his classic 1988 movie.

DOCTOR WHO---Ncuti Gatwa will not only be the first black Doctor Who, but also the first gay Doctor Who according to Neil Patrick Harris, "I got to meet and interact with him a bit and he’s glorious. He’ll be the first gay Doctor, which is going to be super cool, a sexier Doctor."

BATGIRL---Warner Bros. shelved the superhero movie starring Leslie Grace, Michael Keaton, Brendan Fraser and JK Simmons after it performed poorly in test screenings. The studio will take a tax write-down to recoup its $90 million production costs.The tax write-down would be a better deal for Warner Bros. because it would take another $30 million--$50 million to market it theatrically and its income on HBO Max would be worth less than the tax write-down. The studio will not be able to monetize the movies by streaming them or selling them to another studio. Warner Bros. also shelved SCOOBI!: HOLIDAY HAUNT and will also take a tax write-down on it.

MADAME WEB---photo released for Emma Roberts playing a pregnant character in the Spider-Man spinoff movie.

GODZILLA VS KONG---a photo from the film set indicates the sequel's working title is ORIGINS which may suggest it is really a prequel about the origins of Godzilla and/or Kong.

TOM CRUISE---Christopher McQuarrrie said he and Tom Cruise are already working on a post-MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE movie that will not emphasize the action scenes, “It’s kind of under wraps. It has neither a fuse nor a fuselage. Oh that’s not true. It does have some fuselages. It’s something we’ve talked about for a really long time.
It’s way outside of what you’re used to seeing Tom do. It’s the kind of stuff I really love. It’s a little bit more in my wheelhouse. And yet it takes everything we’ve learned on this journey, which is making movies more and more about emotion and real emotional experiences.

ADOPTION---Ellen Pompeo will star in this untitled Hulu eight-part miniseries based on the true story of a couple that adopted a six-year Ukrainian orphan girl suffering from dwarfism who turned to be an adult who attempted to murder her new family. The synopsis says, “As they begin to raise her alongside their three biological children, they slowly start to believe she may not be who she says she is,” reads the synopsis. “They start questioning her story, leading them to be confronted with hard questions of their own about the lengths they’re willing to go to defend themselves, falling into a battle that’s fought in the tabloids, the courtroom, and ultimately their marriage.”

BATGIRL---Warner Bros. Discovery head David Zaslav commented on cancelling BATGIRL, “We’re not going to put a movie out unless we believe in it. That’s it. The objective is to grow the DC brand, to grow the DC characters, but also our job is to protect the DC brand, and that’s what we’re going to do.
This idea of expensive films going to streaming, we cannot find an economic case for it, so we are making a strategic shift. We’re not going to launch a movie until it’s ready. We’re not going to launch a movie to make a quarter, and we’re not going to put a movie out unless we believe in it.”
Zaslav said Warner Bros. Discovery's plan is to create a DC movie universe similar to Marvel Studios, “You look at Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, these are brands that are known everywhere in the world. And the ability to drive those all over the world with great stories is a big opportunity for us. We have done a reset. We’ve restructured the business. We’re going to focus where there will be a team with a ten-year plan focusing just on DC.
It’s very similar to the structure that Alan Horn and Bob Iger put together very effectively with Kevin Feige at Disney. We think that we could build a long-term, much stronger, sustainable growth business out of DC, and as part of that, we’re going to focus on quality.”
He added, “We have seen THE FLASH, BLACK ADAM and SHAZAM 2. We are very excited about them. We’ve seen them. We think they are terrific, and we think we can make them even better.”
Walter Hamada, head of DC Films, almost quit because he was not consulted about the cancellation of BATGIRL, but he is discussing the situation with his lawyer. A source said, “He’s pausing. The decision has not been made to make this adversarial, yet.”

ALIEN---FX head Landgraf commented on the Noah Hawley tv series, “I’m a big fan of ALIEN and ALIENS, and I remember watching both of them in the theater and how shockingly original and surprising each of them was in its own way. And so, similar to his approach to Fargo, Noah decided not to take Ripley or any character from Alien — except perhaps the xenomorph itself — but go back and figure out what made the franchise so great and so durable in the first place and see if he could find an experience that felt like walking into a theater and seeing one of those first two movies, where you get caught off-guard. That’s all I can say at this point, though.”

ERIC LARUE---Alexander Skarsgard and Judy Greer will star in this movie based on the play about the mother of a teenage boy who shot shot three of his classmates. Michael Shannon is the director.

THE LORD OF THE RINGS---Peter Jackson said he was initially contacted about the Amazon tv series but never heard from them again, “They asked me if I wanted to be involved — [writer-producer Fran Walsh] and I — and I said, ‘That’s an impossible question to answer without seeing a script,’ So they said, ‘As soon as we get the first couple scripts, we’ll send them to you.’ And the scripts never showed up. That’s the last thing I heard, which is fine. No complaints at all.”
Jackson added, “I’ll be watching it. I’m not the sort of guy who wishes ill will. Filmmaking is hard enough. If somebody makes a good film or TV show, it’s something to celebrate. The one thing I am looking forward to is actually seeing it as a perfectly neutral viewer.”
Amazon replied to Jackson's comments, “In pursuing the rights for our show, we were obligated to keep the series distinct and separate from the films. We have the utmost respect for Peter Jackson and The Lord of The Rings films and are thrilled that he is looking forward to watching The Rings of Power.”
Sources close to the tv series said showrunners Patrick McKay and JD Payne privately tried to contact Jackson, but were unable to do so for several reasons, the biggest being the JRR Tolkien estate was very unhappy about Jackson's movies.

ALIEN---FX head John Landgraf provided more information on the Noah Hawley tv series, “The ALIEN cinematic universe is that it’s a world where that’s sort of dominated by large corporate entities, and Weylan-Yutani has been an important component of the movies. There are references to that corporation in this show. But it actually takes place in the territory of a different corporation that Noah invented.”

MIKE---boxer Mike Tyson commented on the Hulu miniseries about himself, “Don’t let Hulu fool you. I don’t support their story about my life. It’s not 1822. It’s 2022. They stole my life story and didn’t pay me. To Hulu executives I’m just a n****r they can sell on the auction block.”

X-MEN---Giancarlo Esposito confirmed he has talked to Marvel Studios about appearing in a Marvel superhero movie, and he stated the superhero he wants to play, “There’s been talk of Magneto, there’s been talk of Dr. Freeze, there has been talk of Doctor Doom. There is Professor X … I’m going to go for something that is a little bit different, I’m gonna go put it out into the universe that it is Professor X.”

THE FLASH---Ezra Miller is in legal trouble again after he was arrested for breaking into a vacant building and stole bottles of liquor. Miller was arrested twice in Hawaii for disorderly conduct and harassment and for second degree assault.

SUPERHERO MOVIES---a poll by Morning Consult shows the popularity of superhero movies is declining. The poll was conducted from November, 2021 to July, 2022 and found that the number of adults who liked superhero movies fell from 64% to 59%. Among self-identified Marvel fans, the decline was 87% to 82%. The poll attributed the decline to fan fatigue, “The news came amid a rare slump for the Walt Disney Co.-owned property: Many of Marvel Studios’ latest films, including THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER, have underwhelmed at the box office. While the coronavirus pandemic and rise of streaming options have certainly been factors, the slump may stem in part from a tangible increase in superhero fatigue among moviegoers.”

HIGHLANDER---director Chad Stahelski (JOHN WICK) commented on the status of the remake of the 1986 movie that starred Christopher Lambert and Sean Connery, "We're in the process of tweaking right now. I think we know what we want. More importantly than anything, we know what we want to make. It's in the creatives. We know what we're trying to make. It's just a matter of getting it to the point where we feel, "Okay, this is it. Let's go." But we're closer than we've ever been, so that's good."
He also confirmed he has talked to Henry Cavill about starring in the remake, "It's not just about muscles and brooding. I think he's got an incredible range and I think he'd bring something very special. And his enthusiasm has been amazing in it [THE WITCHER]".

THE FLASH---after Ezra Miller's latest arrest, Warner Bros. reportedly has decided on three options for THE FLASH. Option 1 hopes Miller seeks treatment for his problems which end any future legal problems. Option 2 is release the movie as is and replace Miller with another actor for future projects. Option 3 is cancel THE FLASH and take a huge loss if Miller's problems continue.

NATIONAL TREASURE: EDGE OF HISTORY---executive producer Marianne Wibberley commented on the spinoff tv series' connection to the two Nicolas Cage movies, "It’s an extension. It’s an expansion of the universe, set 17 years later. Peter Sadusky (Harvey Keitel) is 17 years older. Riley Poole (Justin Bartha) has published two more books, (and) has a podcast. Ben Gates (Nicolas Cage) is a big rock star in this world. He’s a treasure hunter rock star. He’s not IN the show. Sorry. We’re still trying to reel him in for (something). But, you know, it’s still the same. It’s just a younger cast, and we have cameos by characters in the movies, but a young cast with female-centric stories."

THE REGULATORS---movie underway based on the Stephen King novel with King's approval for the script.

TALES OF THE WALKING DEAD---the anthology series' showrunner, Channing Powell, said one episode will be a musical, "We may be doing different formats and possibility utilizing animation, music, different mediums. We want to surprise people every week with what they will be getting. [The musical episode is] written! We have a whole script for it. Should we get a Season 2 or 3, I'm going to push for that one if I can. It lives in my heart and in my mind."
