I didn't know Misirlou was around for so long, I did wonder what that name had to do with surf music.

Steve, I guess there's a lot of bands like 'The Midnighters' that never made it big.

I think you may have heard of my favorite instrumental surf tune; 'Bombora' by 'The Atlantics', another Aussie band. Here featured on a doco (Long Way To The Top) about the history of Aussie music.

Thanks for the link Matt. I'll have a look at it, tomorrow hopefully.
Certainly were a hell of a lot more Surf tunes around then, then you ever realise from what are still played on the radio now and certainly not on BBC radio. Mostly when I am driving is only time I listen to radio now and then it's mostly Absolute 80's,though that gets a bit repetitive !

Neither did I. It's amazing how many different versions there are across quite a few different genres!

It's a terrific tune, especially the drum work, the sound isn't great but Link worth watching if only for the dancing girls, personally I prefer them shorter and more curvy but sometimes you have to make do :wink2:

I rarely listen to the radio at home or while driving. At home if I'm not watching tv I listen to my YouTube Music app on my computer, I have over 1,000 songs stored under several categories. Same app is on my Smart phone and when driving I Bluetooth a selected category thru the car speakers, usually 'shuffled' to mix it up a bit.

I'm presently on Long Service Leave pending retirement, so I'm not driving as much as when I was working, was sometimes over 200 km each work day, but even pre retirement I still have YouTube music playing in the car as I'm more into that than random radio songs. Of course I usually miss out on the radio news, but no news is good news ^&grin

I checked out the Atlantics video Bombora, great tune, but not one that was in my memory banks until now, so cheers for that ! :salute::

Yes Book him Danno !
Great one Martyn, who doesn't love the Hawaii 5.0 theme :salute::

Not in the Surf genre but still a classic from just a few years earlier. Though I guess most people at least in the UK will remember it for the Guinness advert !

Where some movie buffs may remember it was a tune being played on the radio in a cafe in La Dolce Vita.
