And here they are fighting two of my favorite Aeroart barbarians. Looks like I'll be adding FL's barbarians to the fray very soon!:smile2:

I was very excited when this site was discovered and had to visit the site . I had been to Detmold years ago because this was thought to have been the site of great Battles but things change . Thats one of the Great things about History what we think we know may not always be the case , We are always learning new things even about events that took place over two thousand years ago . Regards Gebhard

Another great set of photos Gebhard. It truly had to be a moving experience as you took in your surroundings on the battlefield. I know whenever I go to Gettysburg I get a chill up and down my spine just thinking of the history and sacrifice that took place. I would imagine I would get that same feeling if I ever made it there to see it for myself. One day ill get there^&grin

I would highly recommend the Four part series from Kultur productions on the Germanic Tribes it is a German production but is completely redone in English with inteviews with many top experts ,reenactments and Computer Graphics ...much up to date research . Here is a link but I think you can find it cheaper if you look http://www.kultur.com/Germanic-Tribes-p/d4434.htm . I enjoyed it and think its well worth a look .. Regards Gebhard

And the local Bier was not half bad . Regards Gebhard

The last pictures shows the sign marking the location of were the famous cavalry mask of a Roman cavalry helmet was found and a picture of the Mask from the Museum . I'm really hoping this line will expand and include some Cavalry from both sides , Would really love to see some Roman Auxiliary Cav we all know how Great they were . I really like your photo captures the feel of what I had walking the woods , very nice . Thanks for Sharing can't wait to see it when you add some of the good guys :wink2: Regards Gebhard

Incredible photos Gebhard. It's unreal how much the landscape mimics that of Mike's H & A misty scene, or vice versa. Your pics are extraordinary. It must have been a very intense, moving experience to actually be there. I can almost here the echoes in your pics.

Thank you Mark. That's one of my very favorite figures too, if not my favorite. It's a Germanic tribesman I was lucky enough to get on ebay for a very fair price given how nicely he is painted.

Congrats on the Romans Joe. Hopefully your Barbarians won't out number the Romans to badly :( ^&grin

Thanks Joe! My Romans are currently being overwhelmed by barbarians of various lands, but Roman reinforcements should be arriving little by little each month or two. Hopefully my Romans can hold down the fort 'til then!

Looks like the Wisconsin cohort is up and runnin!! Congratulations Mike (and Joe) on your new FL additions. I would recommend the optio to both of you- when I got him home in November his detailing just really enriches my collection.

It's uncanny how many things you have discussed in the last couple days that have interesected with what I am reading and watching re Rome. Last night, I was messing about and was watching the Eagle- sure enough, they deploy into a semi-orb formation- at the beginning of the movie- something I had forgotten completely about.

I am reading Under the Eagles by Simon Scarrow at the moment and it discusses all the fog and marshlands- then WALA!! You photograph it.

Splendid job my friend!!!

Thanks Chris, I'm definitely considering Optio.

Thanks everyone; Joe (Joesgis), Howard, George, Joe (Sahara), Michael, Dan, Noah, ROd, Geb, Guy, and Oliver . . . .

Thanks again Geb . . . I echo your hopes . . . I would like to see some cavalry also. And thnak you very much for the photos of the wooded area at Osnabruk. They really reinforce my thoughts on how nice my dio base would represent a Germanic forest.

Nice additions to your collection Joe. I am envious that you have Aeroart figures. All nicely photographed. Welcome to the fray . . . . .
:) Mike

Thank you very much Mike. I'm lucky to have a few Aeroart figures. Both seen here i was able to get off ebay for very fair prices. I enjoy them a ton, and they really work well with FL's figures.

Thanks Gebhard, I will definitely keep that in mind. Sure would be nice to have one of those in hand while watching Kultars Germanic tribes.

Mike, the forest scenic really works well with your new Romans. Looks fantastic. ^&cool

Mike, your wooded Romans are looking great!!! to many great lines to pick from, oh what a problem to have:smile2:...Sammy

Sometimes I feel like every time Mike puts up a new photo I place an order. I just got my second Roman in the mail today - one of the Vexilifers. I liked the first legionnaire I got, but this one is a real work of art. Such detail! What is not to like about a guy wearing an animal skin and silver mask, and carrying a banner. I took a good look at it with a magnifying glass, and WOW! Can't wait to get more. I see purchasing the mounted Legate and an Optio soon.

And this was my 50th First Legion figure. Yay!

So Dan, are you giving me credit for stimulating the economy as far as you are concerned :wink2: . . . . So you have two down and how many more to go??? Congrats on getting your new Roman . . .

Playing around this morning with my "Legion", small that it is . . . . . I have butted up another H&A dio base to the "Edge of the Forest" dio base to gain more depth in my photos. Also making plans how I will display everything after next month's recruits arrive using both bases together. This would give me an open field in the foreground and the forest in the background. Here are a few pics I took this morning . . . .
:) Mike

I have a feeling I am not the only one inspired by your photos Mike. I am hoping to add about 5 more Romans this year and about 5 Germans. My problem is I am into two many ranges. Right now, I am concentrating on AWI and Romans in with First Legion, but I have also have put together a small number of WWII Germans and ordered the Russian sniper, and I have a smattering of other ranges, especially Napoleonic - and this is just First Legion. So, how many are you getting in this next batch? Can't wait to see the photos!

That's a great scene Mike. Looks like you have a lot of room for those future recruits. Are you planning on getting the Optio with ball headed staff, or the one with the sword ?

I would like to get 8 more Romans in February if my budget allows it. I am trying to get as many as I can before the Barbarians are released and the AWI British 22nd Rgmt of Foot are released. When that happens I will be in the same boat that you are in Dan and will only be able to buy a few of each range at a time.

One of the figures I plan on getting in February is the Optio carrying the staff. Two reasons why: #1 One of the things that set an Optio apart from a regular legionnaire was his staff of office, known as a Hastile. The hastile was normally about the height of the Optio and it was what the Optio used to keep the legionaires in line and in proper formation. #2 Oddly, the Optio with gladius in hand also has a gladius in its sheath attached to his side . . . I thought about getting this one and making a small conversion to him by removing the visible gladius handle off the sheath but changed my mind.

:) Mike
