My first FL Romans (2 Viewers)

One of the figures I plan on getting in February is the Optio carrying the staff. Two reasons why: #1 One of the things that set an Optio apart from a regular legionnaire was his staff of office, known as a Hastile. The hastile was normally about the height of the Optio and it was what the Optio used to keep the legionaires in line and in proper formation. #2 Oddly, the Optio with gladius in hand also has a gladius in its sheath attached to his side . . . I thought about getting this one and making a small conversion to him by removing the visible gladius handle off the sheath but changed my mind.

:) Mike

I would choose this one too...

Lets not forget this terrific Tribune.

I agree, the Tribune is a stunning figure and is on my March list . . . . . By-the-way, great photo . . . . . .
:) Mike

Really nice shot on the Tribune. I passed on him though and acquired one of the Aeroart ones who had a more dramatic attacking pose. This one was a bit too static for me- i was really looking for a Marc Antony type Tribune- wild and frenzied!! {sm4}

Yes, Aeroart does have some great looking pieces. If its the Tribune that I'm thinking of then I'm sure your pleased with it. I have cut back alot on my Aeroart pieces since FL came along but there are still a few that I simply cannot resist ^&grin

Mike,

the photos of your first Romans at the woods are beautiful as are the figures.Thanks for the fine setup.

Thanks also to Gebhard for the photos and info on the "Kalkriese" area and the museum.
I was born in Bramsche, which is a town only a few miles from the battlefield, but we moved on when I was only 1 year old. Although we returned several times to the area for visits I was never aware of the historical events that took place there.
Next time I go back to Germany I will sure pay a visit to the place and the museum.

I got my first FL Roman the other day and would like to add some closeups of this great figure, the mounted Legate.

Konrad

That Legate looks fantastic.{bravo}} Congrats on the pick up. I have always had a soft spot for Romans and now that they are available in such high quality it is getting harder to resist.

Congratulations Konrad on the addition to your collection of the mounted Legate. I know you like yours as much as I like mine. A very nicely done figure indeed . . . .
:) Mike

Heres a couple shots of the Optio. I prefer the Optio with the hastile. Another great figure!!!

A very nice looking figgure indeed Joe and certainly one on my February "to buy" list. I agree with you, the Optio with the hastile is the one to get. For me, the hastile was THE sign of office for the Optio and is what set him apart from the common legionnaire.
:) Mike

Might be a little late but........just received my First Legion Romans ...ordered 3 more 10 minutes after seeing these......love the damaged shield .......looking forward to the Germanics ...and Britsh Celts maybe ??????...^&grin^&grin

Congrats on the fine acquisition...I just bought my first two FL Romans, and I'm hooked too. (There are pics of them earlier in this thread.) The damaged shields are a very nice touch. I'm really looking forward to getting more Romans and the forthcoming Germans look great!! I will definitely be getting many of them. I too am hopeful that FL produces some Celts. I'm guessing it's only a matter of time, because I think this range is doing very well for them and it will only continue to expand.

It seems the Romans are really catching. I am awaiting an Optio and Centurion, which will give me 4. Thanks to everyone who is posting these fantastically tempting photos.

I have placed an order for another 7 sets of Romans and they are supposed to ship on Monday . . . . .

I hope the Optio is among them! I just got the Optio and Centurion in the mail today. Both beautiful. I would have to say the Optio is just extremely special though. I am really looking forward to getting a few Germans to have a little ancient hand-to-hand action. When you ge those next 7 sets and take a few photos, I am sure it won't be long before I pull out the credit card again.

Seven new figures?!?! Now that would be one incredibly fun package to open! I'm gearing up to order my next two Romans. I'm trying to exercise some restraint, but it's tough! Please provide an update when your new 7 Romans arrive. I'm interested to see which ones you've picked out and which ones are you favorites.
Joe

Sounds like I'm not the only fan of the Optio, would've thought a junior officer could be so dashing and exciting!! {sm4}{sm4}

Mike- seven add ons is pretty impressive- you'll have me outpaced in no time flat- I'm buying 2-3/month myself. No sense breaking the bank here.

I am reading a Simon Scarrow novel and imagined that little picture you did with the Romans coming out from the misty woodline will look pretty much spot on with the book Im reading, especially if you add the Germans. {bravo}}

I've got the wounded legionaire vignette coming along with two other legionaires. I took Tuesday off and ran down to Gettysburg and picked up another legionaire- ROM02. Now if I could only get that pesky camera to work!! {sm4}

Hi Dan . . . . yes the Optio is one of the seven that I will be getting . . . . I hoping they will be delivered tomorrow. Photos will be forthcoming as soon as my order arrives . . . . .

Opening a package with just one figure in it can make me happy. By the way . . . . . RESTRAINT????? What the heck is that?:wink2: I know exactly what you mean . . . . currently I am in a good position to be able to order a few more than usual each month . . . . . I need to catch up so that I can be ready for the Germania figures.

One of the ones I am getting is also the wounded 2-figure vignette sculpt. Also getting the Aquilifer on this order . . . . . the rest will remain a secret until I get them . . . . then I will post a photo of the group in the "misty woodline" . . . . .

:smile2: Mike

The Germans can't get here soon enough. Once they are released Ill get them all but unfortunately for them they will be gravely out numbered since Ill be ordering some doubles of the Romans ^&grin Im sure joesgis will take the opposite point of view^&grin
