N.f.l. 2009 (2 Viewers)

I didn't see the Who but a review I read and other comments I've seen weren't overly complimentary. I've also seen what remains of the Who on other televised concerts (we have a great music channel on satellite called Palladia) and Daltry just can't sing anymore.

Brett,

In US football, there are 11 men to a side but there is free substitution unlike other sports where if you take out a man, he can't come back. The players on defense aren't the same on offense (the reverse used to be true in the early days of the sport) and there is also what is called special teams; these are the players who are involved with kicking the ball off (whether after scoring or via a punt). Again, the special teams differ depending upon whether you are kicking the ball or receiving the ball.

I don't put much stock in reviews, again, they were not as good as they were back in the day, that's for sure, but Daltry sounded decent to me and it looked like they were having a good time. Also, hard to judge a band when they are given 11 minutes and have to put together a medley where one song runs into another.

Not bad for a team that almost got beat by the Redskins.:D I have the greatest respect for both quarter backs and despite the critics, I think Manning played well. Any quarterback can make a mistake and his was certainly not the worse. Brees was great. My only reservation about the Saints is the way they played outside the rules to try an put the opposing QB out of the game in the playoffs. That was not so cool to me. Anyway, it was a great accomplishment and the City deserves it.

Ah, the fine line between 'brilliant' and 'moronic' coaching!

If the Colts get that onside kick and go down to score, it's a whole different ballgame.

That said, it was a gutsy call and it paid off royally. People keep saying (me included) that the Vikes and Colts are better than the Saints...but the Saints are Super Bowl Champs...

Perhaps we're not giving them the credit they deserve.

Congrats to the WhoDat nation!

George...I didn't notice his leaving the field...missed that episode...but I did see his post game interview and he was very polite, complimentary and well spoken...he seemed genuinely gracious and sincerely congratulatory to Brees and their organization...looked like a "class act" from what I saw...

I watched the game again this morning; they clearly showed him storming off the field with his helmet on (when he loses, he keeps it on, when he wins, he wears his ballcap).

Brees was looking for him after the game, they showed that too, his head was on a swivel looking for Peyton.

Sure, he was gracious after the game, he always is once he has time to get his act together.

TD,
I appreciate you being a fan of the Who; that said, they've been a band since 1965 and in the past 35 years, they've released 11 studio albums, 10 from 1965 to 1982 and ONE since 1982, that in 2006.

What they were doing at the Super Bowl is a mystery to me; what band will they trot out next year, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young?

Fossil rock, gotta love it.......

I saw CSN at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame concert a few months back. They weren't bad. Not as good of course as in their heyday but still enjoyable.

For 12 minutes why bother, except for the money of course. Sometimes it's better to rest on your laurels, especially if you don't have the chops anymore.

Notice that since the 'Wardrobe Malfunction' the halftime show has been a bunch of old men?

I personally hope they let Ozzy do the halftime show, can you imagine, the censors would have a heck of a time with that one.

I know guys, I am a fan of the Who, so I take the fossil rock any way I can get it. I still like all the old bands more so than new ones, so I am biased.

By the way, even Metallica can sound bad, I recently watched the hbo rock hall concert, ouch, not their personal best. It made some of my own great memories cringe!!

I like the old bands better myself and the Who in particular but I am afraid they sounded pretty scary to me yesterday. Just my taste but I prefer to hear them the way I remember them, which I am afraid is much different now. It seems that Stevie Nicks can still hit those high notes however; certainly buried Taylor Swift at the Grammies.;):D I like Taylor Swift too but she has a few miles (and voice lessons) to go to be in that league.:)

I agree with you Metallica. James' voice has just never come back and Kirk is just not as good as other guitarists although I saw them in concert a couple of weeks later and it was pretty good.

I think it depends on the person. Clapton and Beck are still at the top of their game and are, in fact, appearing in concert at the Garden in less than two weeks time. I have tickets and can't wait.

Clapton is a God, end of discussion.

Just like professional sports players, musicians often hang on way too long and it tarnishes their legacy; you can't do the same things when you are 50 that you could do when you were 20, end of story.

It all comes down to one thing; M-O-N-E-Y..........

Well, he does have a lot of different expressions as does his brother Eli? However, I think that describe most of us.

At any rate, he was gracious in defeat.

The Super Bowl halftime show is an overblown hype-a-thon. A ridiculous, lip-synch torture session no matter who they have.

**** the WHO lets talk about the brilliant game by the world champion New Orleans "SAINT".The Aints turn into true winners gutsy coaching and a never say die attitude. As for Manning to me he looks like a spoilt little brat if you walked off a sport field sulking in Australia well you wouldn't that just isn't sportmanship.Spit the dummy and carry on in the shed later but ALWAYS shake hands. In our AFL grandfinal the loosing team stays on the ground and watches the winning team get the trophys etc.Great game loved it and i bet it will be the best celebrated superbowl win for a very long time.

Wait now, if Eric is God, how can his existance be in doubt? Actually I love Clapton as well and he and Beck have aged very well.

It is a pity that some of the greats have overstayed their competency. No doubt money is a factor, as is I am sure the buzz of being worshiped by millions. And then of course, there is just the plain thrill of performing what they have been so good as for so many years. Sometimes illusions just overwhelm reasonable expectations. For many I think they just can't imagine a life without the thrill of the game (or the concert). It brings to mind that old saying
"Why do so many former players say they like coaching better than playing? Answer: Because they can't play any more.";)

"I personally hope they let Ozzy do the halftime show, can you imagine, the censors would have a heck of a time with that one".

Tom, I will check and see if Ozdigger is free that night next year. If lip synching is acceptable I am sure he can can come up with something. If the moderators (oops I mean censors) agree. :D:D:D

Regards
Brett
PS I enjoyed the ads which here were played as entertainment rather than ads. Liked the one with the soldiers but can't remember what it was advertising !! The one with Betty White and Abe Vigoda was good.

Saw that Merlin Olsen just passed away. One of the fearsome foursome of the LA Rams back in the late 60's and 70's. A great player and seemingly a very nice guy.
