You are right, Brad. I need to climb out of the way-back machine before the 1969 nightmares start again.:wink2:{eek3}:p -- Al

They can drive ya crazy. My personal bugaboo is game 4 of the 1988 NLCS. Mets are up to 2-0 in the late innings and get Carter to third with nobody out but couldn't score. Dodgers tie on Mike bleepin Scosia's HR and lose in extra innings. Instead of being up 3-1, it's 2-2 and Mets lose in 7. The 88 Mets were better than 86 and should have won the WS series that year; they beat LA 11 out of 12 in regular season. That one will haunt me forever, especially as I was at the game.

Nit a great beginning for the offenses overall.
So true. Ravens can't run at all. If they could, they should have tried on 4th and one, but a FG is the result of not being able to run the ball. Ravens need to fix that. -- Al

Got a fight now. Holding the Pats to a FG on the first drive of the 2nd half was big for the Ravens. A 20-10 deficit would have been tough for the Ravens to overcome. Now the Ravens have a 1 point lead and the Pats just coughed up the ball. Now to see if the Ravens can do anything with the ball. -- Al

Duh, nope. I guess the 3 is better than nothing, but a Td would have been big. -- Al

I just knew that not scoring that Td was going to kill them and so it has.:( Oh well, no Baltimore team in the SB, again. The Pats should thank whatever football god they pray to.:rolleyes2: -- Al

Christ, what a way to lose a game!

You have to feel for the Ravens and Raven fans like Sammy.

The Ravens had it on a platter. Two major chokes at the end. You have to hang onto that TD pass like your life depends on it. And the kick! Whew. It looked rushed with the play clock running down. They should have called time out. That kicker is toast.

Cundiff choked the kick but the Ravens lost that game by not scoring TD's on the two possessions inside the ten, when they kicked the 2 FGs. Just poor play calling and execution when it mattered. Baltimore choked this game and handed it to the Pats. No one to blame but themselves. -- Al

Ravens fans, feel for ya, tough way to lose.

My take - Al, you are partially right, but I don't actually think that Flacco or Cameron or Evans are to blame here. My personal opinion is the offensive line collectively got an F in the game from penalties, run blocking and pass protection. They made Flacco hurry way too much as well as knocked them out of FG position before the last pressure cooker kick (drive before on the draw play). Grade of A goes to the Defense who held Pats to a lot of field goals and put the Offense in a position to win.

Opinion - Baltimore wins a lot of games with Flacco and Cameron, but can't find a way to win the big one, maybe Flacco has the skills, maybe he doesn't but he certainly has no luck. Old saying is "winners make their own luck". Who knows, but all in all, pretty exciting game. Really feel for Lewis and Reed.

TD

Congrats to the Pats, a play here or there and maybe it would have been a different story, but the game is over and we lost, we'll be back hopefully next year to compete again for the Superbowl...Sammy

TD
Hit the nail on the head, Tom. Ravens have proven to be very frustrating by continually playing well enough to get to the big games, but seemingly always (except that once) finding a way to lose. It is all very frustrating. -- Al

Just got back a short time ago from the game.

There is an expression in sports the better team lost and that is the case with this game.

The Patriots much maligned defense saved Brady's rear end today, he did not have a very good game.

Overthrew a wide open Gronkowski for sure TD, also threw an INT that lead to 3 points, then threw an awful INT going for a home run ball after Spikes had picked off Flacco. Why throw that ball, just run the ball there and eat clock.

The Patriots put pressure on Flacco with a four man rush and blitz packages, whenever they rushed 3 and dropped 8, he shredded them.

Lousy way to lose a game on a missed FG, not to mention two plays before that they had the game won but the reciever dropped the pass/had it knocked out of his hands.

The Patriots are doing it with smoke and mirrors, had a WR playing DB and two guys I never heard of back there late in the game.

Regardless, it's on to the Super Bowl, the seventh one for the Patriots, only the Steelers and Cowboys have made more trips with 8 each.

And the 49ers just went up on the Giants 14-10...............

Brady had a horrible game against the Raven's defense...

QB rating 57.5
22-36...61.1%...
2 ints
1 sack...
no TD passes...

interstingly...

Flacco was also 22-36...61.1%...

but his QB rating was 95.4...
no ints...
2 TD pass...

Flacco threw one INT to Spikes, then Brady gave it right back on the next play.

Despite that one INT, he was the better QB today, should have had 3 TD's as one was dropped in the end zone.

I also see the Giants won in overtime, scored a TD on a punt that clanged off the guys knee, then the game winning FG off of a fumbled punt by the same guy.

Absolutely incredible, he's a bigger goat that the Ravens field goal kicker; his buffoonery led to 10 points.

The 49er's defense played out of their minds tonight.

And still lost.

So now it's Giants/Patriots.

Two weeks of the rematch/ruining the perfect season/the Tyree catch/blah, blah, blah, yada, yada, yada.

okay...NYG's were a little lucky tonight...no doubt...but they are definitely peaking at the right time....

on defense...you can't discount their pass rush...and they really stepped it up in the second half...

on offense...Peyton seems flaky...but he does what he has to do to win...

they are pretty balanced in my opinion...while they couldn't run that well tonight...nobody really does against SF...

the fumble that SF didn't get because the ref said forward progress was halted was a pretty quick call in my opinion...it would of made all the difference in the world...

I know a lot of people on this thread didn't want a 9-7 team in the playoffs...criticizing the current system...but I think the team the NYG's are fielding right now is one of the best rounded teams in the NFL...their last two road wins were impressive...

SF defense always steps up...granted they had a light schedule this year...but you still gotta play...whether it's a pitching wedge or a 5 iron...you still gotta hit the shot...

SF...points allowed in regular season...229...

Pittsburg...#1 in points allowed...227...

and yes...both of those guys are official bums now in their respective cities...one with a missed field goal and one with two turnovers...they won't sleep well tonight...

I think they will give Tom Terrific all he can handle...
