What a superbowl that would be! The only two quarterbacks in the history of the league with 5 road playoff wins, two teams with tremendous defensive traditions, both of whom are playing great defense, a great running team against a great passing team. I'd sign up for it in a heartbeat.
I would love to see this game. I would also like to see the same result that happened the last three times the NY Giants and a team from Baltimore played for the NFL Championship.:wink2:^&grin -- Al

A friend of mine here in Boston is a Patriots season ticket holder and also owns a landscaping company and he plows for the state in the winter; we are currently getting hammered with snow and he just contacted me a short while ago and told me he'll be out plowing until probably until about 1:00am or 2:00am and wanted to know if I want his two tickets for the game, they are selling for 199.00 a pop.

Done deal, I'm going, this will be my third AFCCG viewed live and in person; 1986 in Miami vs the Dolphins, 2004 in Foxboro vs the Colts and now Foxboro again vs the Ravens.

24 hours till kick off.

I hate making picks, but since I don't have a vested interest this week, thought I would give it a shot! Of course, I have flip flopped over the last hour but here goes:

49ers 27
Giants 24

Ravens 31
Patriots 27

There you have it, now that I have made my picks, I can guarantee you will see a Giants vs Pats rematch in the SB :p:p:p

"Unitas to Berry. Unitas to Berry. I still see it in my dreams." -- Sam Huff:eek:

I wasn't born until 66, so I missed the real deal but I have the entire game on remastered Digital dvd, with all the color commentary, and how each team got to the Championship game and a high lite of each teams regular season games for that season, one of my favorite sports collectables that I own, I watch it every now and then just to see how football should be played:smile2:...and Gifford did not get that first down no matter what he says!!!! I slowed the picture down to the slowest frame I could and he came up just short, good thing:smile2:...Sammy

I wasn't born yet Al, but I've seen the game replayed on tape, and you are lucky there was no replay back then. Frank Gifford got the first down with less than two minutes remaining, the other guy broke his leg, and the idiot refs screwed up the spot. If the refs get the spot right, the Giants run out the clock, there is no comeback, no overtime, no Unitas to Berry.

I guess we got our payback to Baltimore when that Kid Jeffrey Mayers assisted Jeter with the homer in the '96 playoffs.:wink2:

Gifford's been crying about that play ever since he was stopped short. The Giants didn't lose because of that play, they lost because they couldn't stop the Colt's offense when it mattered. :wink2: Both teams had their chances. So it goes. -- Al

True enough about Mayers, but the same thing is true of instant replay in that instance, too. {sm2} -- Al

You're right Al. They couldn't stop that darn receiver. He was slow, but ran perfect patterns, and he and Unitas were on the same page. With the way the rules were back then, I'll never understand why Huff just didn't tackle him coming off the line and keep him from ever getting out in the route at all.

Ahhhh, so true, so true, that game bothers me today as much as the Pirates coming back down 3-1 to win against my O's in the 79 world series, hmmm, maybe more of a underlying issue why I hate Pittsburgh so much:smile2:...Sammy

What are you going to do?:rolleyes2: Without replay (and frankly, sometimes with it) refs are going to screw up. In both the Gifford spot and the Jeter homer, it was at least close enough that you could understand the ref getting it wrong. What about the poor fans from the screwed up call at first base that would have ended the world series between Kansas City and St Louis? I don't have a dog in that fight, but that one wasn't even close.

When the refs screw up, someone's going to be unhappy. During a long season like in baseball, it doesn't matter as much as it does in a short season like football, where every game can be crucial. Of course, screw ups in the playoffs are a whole different matter where even one bad call can turn the game and the championship. I just don't know how one can take the human factor out of the equation without slowing the games down to the pace of a snail's race though. The more electronic help the refs get, it seems the less they are eager to make their own calls, scared, it seems, to be shown wrong and overturned. Don't have a solution, just venting.:redface2: -- Al

Right you are Sammy. There was a computer analysis of the spot of the ball and the first down marker. It was short of the first down. You know such a historical controversy would be examined over time. Gifford's a whinner.

Speaking of blown calls, how about the field goal by Chandler in the Packers-Colts game that sent it into overtime? Ball was wide but called good. Packers don't go on to win and no Superbowl victory and legend. Chris

Ah, one of my favorite and fondest memories as a 1st Grader. Sing it with me......."We are FAMALEE, my brothers, my sisters and me............." What a team - Pops Stargell, Cobra Parker, Maddog Madlock, Garner, Bibby, Candyman Candelaria, Rooker, Moreno, Foli,Tekulve, Milner, Blyleven and it goes on!

Don't hate, just appreciate the greatness of the City of Champions.......... I bet you are a Caps fan too..........:smile2:

Boy, the Colts got hosed big time on that blown FG call. After losing 27-0 to the Browns in the '64 title game and then followed by the above blown FG call, and then followed by the '67 disaster, (not making the playoffs after going 11-1-2 on the season) , I felt that the Colts were truly snake-bitten. Then the beautiful revenge game by beating the Browns 34-0 for the NFC title and the berth in SBIII, I thought the spell broken for sure. How wrong was I? The 60's was the best of times and the worst of times for we old Colts fans. Good teams but something always seemed to go wrong. Same as fans of the Orioles. We should have won all of those WS. Instead of just winning in '66 and '70, we should have taken the Mets and Pirates, as well. It was a case of not beiing able to close the deal. -- Al

The changed the goal posts as a result of that incredibly bad call, so the refs could stand directly beneath the uprights, and the uprights would be taller. To this day the new goal post design is called the "Baltimore extension." If that had been my team, I think I might have gone appoplexic.{eek3}

Must be a slow night discussing a fifty year old game.

Back to the future

I picked the Pats last week and see no reason to change. It will be a close game though so if you are a betting man take the Ravens with the points. This is a make or break game for Flacco. He may go onto great things if he does great things tomorrow and leads his team to victory. If not, it may be time to look for a new QB.

The other game will also be close. The popular pick seems to be the Giants. I'm not really sold on either team. Although I would like to see the Niners get in, I don't see it. Giants by a FG.

You are right, Brad. I need to climb out of the way-back machine before the 1969 nightmares start again.:wink2:{eek3}:p -- Al

Rest assured, I was. And still am. As I was in '64, '65, '67, and '69. Rough stretch. :rolleyes2: -- Al
