N.F.L. 21-22 Season (2 Viewers)

Surprising info I never knew until this Super Bowl:

Jalen Hurts is the first University of Alabama quarterback to start in the Super Bowl since Kenny Stabler in 1977.

Wait, what?

The preeminent college football program hasn’t had a player start at the most important position in the highest level of its sport in 46 years?

Why does it seem like the Chiefs won the Super Bowl a year ago rather than 1 week ago?

The sports news cycle moves so much faster than it used to.

I see where the Rams are running a fire sale, wanting to dump Ramsey to create cap room, they also parted ways with Bobby Wagner after one year.

You had to figure all those moves/dealing with cap issues "down the road" would bite them in the ***, but hey, they won a Super Bowl, flags fly forever.

If Stafford can't come back from that injury, there will be some lean years in La La land; even if he can, there will be some lean years, they went from SB champs to not even making the playoffs, GEGJ.

But WOW!!, their boy genuis coach is back!!

I guess those cheeseball Chunky Soup commercials don't pay as good as I thought they did.

According to odds makers the Niners have the second best chance to win Super Bowl 58, yet no one has any idea who their QB is going to be next season.

In a sport where your quarterback defines your destiny it seems odd that SF would have such a great chance to win it all with an unknown quantity at QB.

Then again, finally, perhaps.this proves that gambling odds are complete crap that the NFL and sports in general use to artificially bloat their viewership and income.

Purdy had successful surgery yesterday. Recovery time is three months and he’s projected to be back by game 1 of the season. Lance will be the starter until then. They may sign an experienced backup like Andy Dalton or Gardner Minshew.

Their bigger problem is that they have a lot of FAs and not a lot of cap room. They also need an experienced RT. McGlinchey, although getting better, is poor against the pass.

I can't believe the Jets actually want Aaron Rogers at this stage of his career. He seems like he is done with football and couldn't care less but the Jets will likely make a big deal for him. If the Packers pull this off, they will have outdone King Pete who convinced the league that Russell Wilson still had trade value as an elite QB.

Brad:

Great post.

At the skill positions the Niners are set but they lack line depth as well as role players.

Best,
Jason

The Jets and Packers have reportedly agreed on compensation. It’s now up to Rodgers. Down the stretch the Packers played well. Rodgers had to break in new receivers. The Jets are a team that can be competitive but lack a QB. Rodgers fits that bill. The players have been tweeting and making videos imploring him to come. It’s now up to him.

I don’t think Wilson is done. He didn’t have the right coach. Well, he has it now. If he looks poor this year, then I will agree with you but I’m not ready to do that yet.

It's a toxic combo that makes no sense to me. A "win now" move for a team that is a long way from winning now. The salary and cost will make the Jets worse rather than better. Rodgers has become a headache even in a place where he is a hero. On the dysfunctional Jets, he will wear out his welcome very quickly. The fans will turn on him and the end will be ugly. Rodgers needs to go to a team that has a realistic chance to make a playoff run this year. The Raiders or TN make more sense.

Actually, that’s not correct. They have a very good defense and a good offense, with a strong corps of wide receivers. What they lack is a QB. Had they had a half decent one last year they would have gone to the playoffs. Rodgers, if he wants to come, fits that bill. Short of that they may turn to QBs like Jimmy G or Ryan Tannehill. There are not many good options for them after Rodgers.

If he ends up on the Jets, the Patriots are guaranteed to finish last in the AFC East.

Understood completely that nothing lasts forever, but they've been a complete mess since Shady Brady left, two sub 500 seasons, one playoff appearance and they got demolished by the Bills.

Now that Belichick........oh sorry, Belicheat is fully in charge, things don't look so great.

Good luck with that if you are a Jets fan. An over the hill QB who has lost interest in the game and has checked out. To get him, the Jets will have to trade away a lot and take on his enormous salary for years. Money and talent better spent stocking up with free agents and draft picks.

Rams unloaded Ramsey to Miami for a 3rd and TE Hunter Long, he of the ONE target in 2022.

What a ****ty return for a 28 year old pro bowl cornerback.

This is typical of what happens to teams that go "all in" to win a ring; they pay for it for years.

Flags fly forever though, so yahoo!!!

A strict salary cap dump. He is almost 30. No doubt it was going to happen. I liked the guy but he was hit and miss on the field and not likely to improve with age. He should have a couple of good years with the Dolphins. With the Bills and Pats trending back to their traditional roles as doormats, Miami might make a run.

How are the Bills "trending back to their traditional roles as a doormat?".......................they are trying to trade for Henry at TN is in fire sale mode too.

And with Tua's concussion issues, Miami is not making a run at anything except wannabe's.

I actually like this proposed rule. The onside kick has become pointless.

Philadelphia’s rule suggestion goes like this: first, the scoring team needs to alert the official of its intention to forgo an onside kick or kickoff to try and retain possession. The ball will be spotted on the team’s own 20-yard line and will need to gain at least 20 yards to retain the ball.
If the offense attains enough yardage, the result of the play is a first down. If they fail to meet the marker, they turn the ball over to the defending team. If the offense is penalized on the play, they cannot reverse their decision on the attempt.

To further Doug's point, Rodgers today claimed he's fine with going to New York, but the Packers have made some unreasonable demands for compensation, to which he was asked "It's been reported that you in turn asked the Jets for four WR's to be signed as free agents".......he claimed that is not true.

Once he lands in NY, best of luck to him and the Jets.

He's a great QB and a first ballot HOF lock, but he's won a whopping one Super Bowl and is 11-10 lifetime in the playoffs.

But that said, IF he wins a SB in NY, oh boy.............................

And it looks like Rodgers is fine with a trade. This will be a worse disaster than one of Mayor Pete's train derailments. Hard to look away from the mushroom cloud.

Tip of the cap to Jimmy G. as he departs the Niners.

He kept the franchise competitive on the field and represented the team via community service off of it.
