N.F.L. 21-22 Season (1 Viewer)

Sounds like Lamar Jackson is done with the Ravens. He has a ton of talent but a risky move to sign him at the potential trade and salary cost. I wonder who is going to bite on that offer? Miami? Houston? The Deadskins?

The Ravens hold all the cards so if he wants to play he will have to play for them unless some team crazy enough to give away compensation signs him.

Local speculation is that the Deadskins won't be players for Jackson. Not sure that is a bad thing considering recent Qb history with the 'Skins. Nothing seems to work for them. -- Al

Yes, a big risk but he is a talented player. There are some teams sitting on a mountain of draft picks. Must be tempting. I wouldn't make that deal but NFL teams routinely sign failed coaches and aging players to big money deals. Once a player publicly demands a trade, that it is usually that. It would be toxic to keep him now.

He’s talented and pardon me if I’m wrong but he’s more of a runner and does seem injured quite a bit. I just hope the Jets don’t see him as a second option if the Rodgers thing fizzles out, which wouldn’t surprise me.

The NFL needs a true salary cap.

Teams (the Niners included) should not be allowed to sign a player for a billion dollars for 2 years then re-negotiate that same contract that spreads the salary cap hit to $1 dollar per year over the next 980 million years.

The good news: Dan Snyder's reign of incompetence is finally over. The long nightmare for Deadskins fans has reached an end. The bad news: The Ravens have signed OBJ to a - wait for it - $18 million one-year contract. Regrets? There will be a few before that deal ends. That's assuming he even makes the team.

And so it begins:

Odell Beckham Jr. has been named a suspect in an assault investigation. A woman told the police that he allegedly put his hand around her neck in an L.A. hotspot.

It's almost cruel that they release the Wonderlic scores of the NFL draft picks. CJ Stroud scored an astounding 18%. I think Vince Young was the only other QB to score lower. You can't keep CJ down though:

"I know I have God-given talent — not only to play the game, but to have IQ," Stroud said. "I think I'm very smart. I think if I'm not the smartest QB in this draft then I'm one of the smartest in this draft and in the NFL."

"Small game" Lamar Jackson just got a mega deal with the Ravens. Baltimore must be on the same kamikaze trip as the Jets. Lamar basically sat out the playoffs last year and bluffed his way to this deal. He is a talented guy but not at a point in his career where he is getting any better. And that hasn't been good enough to make a playoff run.

I think that running backs can at least look forward to some support from the likes of switch board operators and TV repairmen when it comes to their salary demands.

In todays pass happy league where the rules favor the offense, RB's are becoming a non factor unless they can catch passes out of the backfield, the Patriots had Elliot in for a visit this week and he makes zero sense as he's not one of those.

George:

Great post, Elliot really sums up the current running back market. Running backs who run are useless.

And why over pay for running backs when you can envelope that position into a scrambling/running QB?

You can get more yards via a QB who gets a roughing the passer and/or a pass interference call than you can an “overpaid” running back.

Thankfully for the NFL and its “fans” gamblers could care less.

Not a huge fan of “Hard Knocks” or Aaron Rodgers but this season’s first episode was worth a watch.

The Ravens have apparently won 23 straight preseason games. That is bizarre given the uncertainties of the lineups in preseason. Too bad that they can't win a playoff game.

I used to wonder why NFL preseason games have any viewers.

Then I saw them listed in Vegas in sports books.

Far from me to judge anyone and their vices but if you are betting on Thursday night NFL preseason games it might be time to seek help.
