N.F.L. Season 2018-19 (3 Viewers)

Random Thought - I still think Joe Flacco is a dud. And before my Ravens friends on here start yelling at me, this has nothing to do with being a Steelers fan. I just don't think much of him. Let's be honest, he is on the hot seat in his contract year, somehow plays all world, wins SB. Next year continuing into years, he stinks. Not just stinks, sucks, some of the worst QB stats ever. All sorts of excuses are made, lack of WR (although 2 near HOF's were part of that ), lack of O Line, lack of this, lack of that............. Whatever. He basically is just a dud. THEN, oh my......Ravens draft Lamar Jackson and out of nowhere, Flacco has the most yards of his career through 7 games. WHAT? REALLY? SO, he is afraid for his job and all of sudden plays better??? Again, he is a dud in my opinion. I just don't get it. I swear everytime I see him come to the line, it literally looks like his brain is cramping. Is it Joe Cool or Joe Drool?????

I will go out on a limb here and say the following.................If Baltimore had a different QB during this particular time (the awesome D they had year in year out), I think they win at least 2 SB's, maybe 3SBs. George, I know you will hate hearing this, but the Ravens D had the Pats number for a bunch of years and if they had a different QB, may have changed the outcome.

Of course, if my aunt had balls she would be my uncle but it is fun to think about.

The Steelers had a bye week, probably the best week of the NFL season for me................they couldn't screw up. Curious to see what they do at home against Cleveland. If we lay an egg, I am done watching.

My Random thought.....last 3 years Flacco hasn't played one snap on defense....he has mostly outplayed Rosenberger and Brady over the last few years, if a offense can score say 24-30 points no reason a good defense can hold the opponent to less..I.E. The 2 losses in Pitt, and home last year with the Bengals, the last 2 playoffs losses in New England were on the defense, and Billy shanks Cundiff!!!! Flacco doesn't have the pizzazz of many NFL QBs, but he brings his hard hat to work, doesn't play the bullshitt card and tells it strait, he certainly had his share of injuries, lack of receivers etc. But I'll take his wins vs. Losses all day and hope he remains a Raven QB for many seasons to come.

The Giants......oh wait, sorry, the NEW YORK FOOTBALL Giants have unloaded Eli Apple and word is they are open for business as far as trades leading up to the deadline.

As long as they keep starting the other Eli at QB driving his career WL record below .500, I'm ok with that.

They are clearly in full out tank mode, I'm just thankful they've kept the offense intact, as it's clearly designed to run deep into the post-season.

1-6; their season is officially over and it's not even Halloween.

That Solder signing looks tremendous too by the way, nice impression last night from him of a turnstyle.

Yeah, that NFC East is one powerhouse division, have to give Louis credit, when you're right, you're right.

One of the great Giants, and one of the outstanding defensive tackles of his time, winner of the 1952 Outland Trophy and a member of the University of Maryland Hall of Fame, Dick Modzelewski, passed away on Friday. With Andy Robustelli, Jim Katcavage and Rosey Grier, they were the best defensive line of their time.

RIP. Here's an obituary.

That photo really symbolizes that era. No bells or whistles. Just tough gridiron combat. Not to reignite another debate but it’s like two different games: pre Rozelle and post Rozelle.

That's as true a statement on the state of football as we're likely to have. -- Al

Sammy,

Sorry but no, the last few years prior to this year he has NOT outplayed Ben or Brady. I was at the game in person last year in Baltimore where the home town BOOED the kneelers and BOOED him directly when the Steelers wiped the field with them. HE sucked in that game. You can wear your heart of the team on your sleeve but I am telling you, he is on thin ice in Baltimore and if they are not a successful playoff team, any stats he has are not saving him nor probably the majority of the coaching staff. Steve B. is getting impatient all the way around and Flacco's contract is stuck in his craw in a big way. Word here is if they are not in the playoffs, major overhaul coming in coaching staff and veteran players. Owner is going to clean house.

Also, the Ravens offense the last 3 years put their defense in a lot of crap positions prior to this season. The Defense has never really been the issue, maybe this year it is a lot weaker than in the past, but it still looks pretty good most of the time. And no on the excuse of lack of receivers, they still had plenty of options out there. Flacco after that contract missed a lot of key plays and his 3rd down passing conversion was horrendous.

You need to go back and look at stats the last 3 years, again, I didn't post this to raz on Baltimore, I am simply relaying my opinion on him, but look at the facts and stats since he signed his contract. He is not an elite QB. There are not many of them, but his stats are not going to get him there in the 2 bursts that he has had.

Did the Ravens out play the Steelers in their first game this year, yes, it was not even close, the Steelers got beat by the better team of the day.

I remember reading about him during my time with MD football, he came back and was honored for various items a few times when I was there. He was one of their first superstars.

Once again Tom I beg to differ...the last 2 years Flacco has been coming off a torn ACL, then last year back issues, this is the 1st time in some time where he is healthy and has a decent core or receivers to throw to, again Flacco put the Ravens in position to win in Pittsburgh in 2016 (brown last inch stretch) 2017 Raven defense gives up 500 plus to Rosenberger lose 39-38, no need bringing up this year as Rosenburger just had a bad game, I'm sure in 2 weeks might look different.

As far as what happens this year I believe the Ravens win out the AFC North games and win the division with a 10-6 record, but.....If the wheels fall off, we miss the playoffs I know Steve Biscotti may want major changes, but it won't be Harbaugh, maybe Flacco because of a cap hit unless he restructures his contract which I think he would, also Lamar Jackson is no where near a starting NFL Qb, so ??? there....we'll see it play out these next 9 weeks, and no worries here, what others opions have of players on my Fav. Sports teams matters very little to me just as my opions of your players mean much....good luck against the Browns, that team should be leading the North if they had a reliable kicker.

Sammy,

Sorry, the facts don't support you. Any "NFL" experts over the last 3 years all use the same facts. Joe stunk it up since he signed the contract. And I think the reason he is playing well this year is b/c he has to. Steve has said as much publically. Also, publically, he has indicated he is giving Harbaugh this year to significantly improve, if not, he is gone. I am not speculating, that is a quote locally. SO - if the Ravens don't improve, you will not only be rooting for another QB, but you will be with a new coach. As far as Lamar, I don't know how he will end up, but I can tell you, he is probably one of the best all around athletes to come to the NFL in a long time. Will he be successful, I don't know, but he has repeatedly starred on a large stage thus far in his career.

Finally, get Ben's name right will ya?^&grin

And , let me rattle a few facts about Brady since you think Flacco has outplayed him the last few years :::
SEVEN strait AFCCG's, 3 Super Bowls, torching the Seahawks in the 4th quarter for a win, torched the Falcons in the second half for the greatest comeback in SB history (ever), threw 500 yards last year against the Eagles in probably the most exciting dramatic SB ever that I have seen other than Big Bens clutch pass to Santonio Holmes against Arizona.

Few Facts about Ben - has been to 3 SB, won 2 and I don't have the AFCCG number handy but is more than Flacco. 45 Game winning drives, more than Brady and 2.5 times Flacco - he is clutch when it counts for the most part. Point being, end of day, they are not comparable as QB's over their careers and with factual stats. End of story.

We can argue all you want on opinions, but facts are facts, I think they back up my opinions.

Tom you can rattle off all the stats you want...not once did I say Flacco was better then Brady or Ben ( his last name sucks) but he's more then carried the Ravens the last 2-3 times in New England and in Pittsburgh the last 3 years...no need pulling all time stats out of the history books unless it makes you feel better about your team, just stating my opinion on your original post that Flacco sucks yada, yada

As far as stats I'll take Joe's playoff record on wins-losses, 3 AFC Championship games ( if Evens holds on to the pass for 1 more second from Flacco in New England ) that's back to back Superbowls....but fate had a different tune, but yea still give Brady, Ben as being the better qbs but Flacco has more then held his own over the years against both of them.

Not what you're seeing in Lamar??? Other than being another running QB I saw very little in pre-season with his arm, just a rookie, glad he's a Raven and hope he proves me wrong.

If Biscotti were to let Harbaugh go he'd have a new job the next day, after basically leading the NFL in 2016, 2017 with starters on I.R. sometimes the wins and losses are just out of the coaches control as you play with what you have, I'm pretty sure Biscotti has made his fortunes with proper decision making, I personally enjoy Harbs as a coach and hope he around for a long while.

Speaking of coaching changes I certainly hear many rumblings about Tomlin if the Steelers aren't able to have Suoerbowl aspirations as all predicted for 2018?? I actually like him, calls it like it is.

I'm hoping your man Bell shows up before week 9, already heard from every Steeler fan in Arizona that if Bell had played in week 4 Ravens wouldn't have won so easily, and a chance of a series sweep of the Steelers is about as good as a Oriole sweep in N.Y.

See ya in Balmere in 2 weeks Tom, hopefully as Al stats the good Joe shows up and we take a sweep.

Looks like the Giants are starting to rebuild: Snacks (Damon Harrison) was traded to the Lions today.

NY going into rebuild mode after making a bunch of decisions all summer exactly opposite of what a rebuilding team should is all sorts of awesome.

Leading up to the deadline, teams like the Raiders (what in the name of Christ happened to that team; a few short years ago they were a QB injury away from challenging the Patriots for top dog in the AFC), Jints, Cardinals, Colts, Browns and Bills among others will be wheeling and dealing.

They thought they could compete but frankly they’ve done a poor job with the O line although in their defense they’ve had some injuries. I think they finally realized they do need to do some major surgery. They missed the boat when they didn’t draft a QB. Darnold is making progress for the Jets but is going through growing pains; he has some good games but then some poor ones. At any rate, they could have had him. However, it looks like there will be some QBs in the draft. They need to move on from Eli ASAP.

Raiders will be going through a major rebuild also; that has already started.

The Bay Area sports-talk has been all about Gruden and his trades. Word is he is cleaning house on people he didn't draft or doesn't like no matter how good they might be.

The Rollercoaster Ravens are still headed downhill at the moment as the Bad Flacco showed up today (but it was a team effort) in the loss to Carolina. I can't figure this team out...up...down...up...down...up...down... :rolleyes2: -- Al

Al...this has been a mirror image 3 years in a row now...Ravens start out hot early, then run off 3 or 4 losses in a row and sit at 4-4 at the half way point......well not getting any easier, even with home games against the 3 AFC North opponents at this rate they will be hard pressed to win any, hate to admit it but Tom was right that changes may be coming if the Ravens continue this trend, with all the off season moves on receivers, draft picks added, still the same ol offensive woes, the # 1 defense was embarrassed in all facets of the game.....Pittsburgh playing good comes to town next week, if they play like today better make changes now instead of playing out the string.....any chance we can Fast forward to 2019.....this so far has been a pretty worthless sports year for me.

Sammy, the sports year hasn't gone the way I had hoped either. As many know, I have duel allegiances in baseball (O's and Nats) and football (Redskins and Ravens) in the NFL and UMd and Navy in the NCAA. Nats and O's were a bust. Redskins are doing ok at the moment but I think it will end badly; Ravens are sputtering along; Navy is having a down year and UMd is on the verge of disaster with little margin for error in terms of a bowl game. I got 6 teams and no real joy so far. I'm hoping the Ravens straighten out and that the Skins stay lucky. Someone once said hope is a good thing.:rolleyes2: -- Al

Well Al, we could always jump on the Massachusetts sports band wagon...:)
Can't do it Sammy. If I threw my big butt on the Massachusett's Sports Band Wagon, it would immediately break down. Wouldn't want to jinx George's good fortune.:wink2:^&grin -- Al
