N.F.L. Season 2018-19 (8 Viewers)

Odd fact alert: The Redskins are division leaders with a 5-3 record, despite a negative 12 point differential. That's not the odd thing, surprising, but not odd. The odd thing is that there has not been a single lead change in any Redskin game this season. So far, you score first, you win. No lead changes through 8 games is about as odd as it gets. -- Al
Odd stat continues as the Redskins beat Tampa Bay 16-3 today. Skins took a 3-0 lead and won, continuing the 'no lead change in a game' streak to 9. It was an odd game anyway as Tampa Bay had 500 yards of offense but kept shooting themselves in the foot with 4 turnovers and 2 missed FG's. I guess that's how you score only 3 points with 501 yards of net offense.:rolleyes2: -- Al

Just found out that the Bucs made history today. They are the first team in NFL history with 450+ yards to score 3 or fewer points. Wow. -- Al

Report out of Baltimore says that Harbaugh will leave the Ravens after the end of the season. It is a mutual parting, not a firing. Harbaugh has been HC for 11 years. GM Ozzie Newsome is on the way out too. Overhaul time. Guessing Flacco is on thin ice as well. -- Al

For some reason I have always thought of the Ravens as an AFC powerhouse, however I just read that they are 44-45 since winning the Super Bowl in 2012.

Maybe it is time for a change?

“Just because the way that they won the Super Bowls, the Patriot Way, is that how everybody else is supposed to do the same thing?” - Lane Johnson in May.

After losing to Dallas last night, the defending SB Champion Iggles are 4-5, two games out of first in their division and they still have road games vs the Saints and the Rams.

Yeah Lane, go ahead and dump on a team that has been a powerhouse in a watered down league for 17 years.

Some people just never, ever learn.

Football is literally the only professional sport where a team can come out of nowhere and win a title, baseball is a 162 game grind and the playoff formats in the NBA and NHL make a cinderella story viritally impossible.

Only in the NFL can a team get hot for two or three games and win a title.

Exhibit A, the Iggles.

Exhibit B, the Ravens in 2012.

Exhibit C, the Giants in 2007/2011.

Exhibit D,...……...well you get the idea.

It is a good point. The Steelers from my experience were playing not to lose against Arizona and Green Bay after 2 very dominant and expected seasons. Arizona went to the wire and unfortunately the Green Bay game came down to a fumble by he who will never be named and who has been blackballed and forgotten from Pittsburgh running back! Do I truly believe the Steelers were the better team both years, yes, but we only won 1 of them. It is a hard league to win the final game and sometimes, it is not always the dominant and better team. I still say 9 out of 10 times, the Steelers would beat Green Bay that season and 10 out of 10 on Arizona.

The quote that is most associated with the NFL is "Any given Sunday"...……………..ie, any team can lay an egg, any team can rise to the occasion.

It's the only sport where there is a one game winner take all format for the championship.

If the NFL championship/Super Bowl were decided by a best 4 out of 7 like the other three leagues, the better team would win the series virtually every time.

But, the format is the format and the Patriots in 2001, Giants in 2007 and 2011, Packers in 2010 and Iggles in 2017 all say thank you.

Yup, same with Big Ben's first one, they went on a hot streak and won it all.

I always said...
it's about getting healthy and hot at the right time...
just make the playoffs and with a "win or go home format"...
anybody can win the SB...

I often criticize Bill Belichick for his "get off my lawn" press conferences etc.

However, I need to eat some crow on that one. Following the Patriots losses to the Detroit Lions and Tennessee Titans Belichick met privately with Matt Patricia (the Lions Head Coach-former Patriots' Defensive Coordinator) and Mike Mike Vrabel (the Titans Head Coach-former Patriots' Linebacker) to congratulate them on their victories over him and the Pats.

Class move on Belichick's part.

I was in LA last weekend and went to the Rams-Seahawks game at the Coliseum. A perfect 80 degree day. The light rail out there works like a dream to avoid traffic. Last time I was out there over 20 years ago it didn't exist. A rare modern example of progress. The last pro game that I saw at the Coliseum was the 1984 AFC Championship game between the Raiders and Seahawks. Lots of nostalgia seeing my old Rams in their blue and gold unis in LA.

I am a Niner fan yet I have always loved those uniforms.

The people in LA are wildly happy to have the Rams back. Having been on the east coast so long, it was odd to be around happy people in a big city. A great experience. I was sitting at a picnic table in Expo Park waiting for the game to start and noticed a crowd. I walked over with my 9 year-old son and there was Eric Dickerson signing autographs. My son didn't have a clue but I pushed him into the crowd and Dickerson signed his shirt. LA is a wild place. We went down to Santa Monica beach on Thursday and a few miles up the coast you could see the smoke rising from the fires like the end of times. Surreal.

I’ve tried to persuade my wife to move to Orange County but every time there’s a fire or some other severe weather occurrence out there, she doubles down on “no!”

I came home from 80 degree perfect weather to 8 inches of snow and misery. And it is only mid-November. Move to Santa Monica. Nothing there can burn except perhaps the electric cars. There is a vacancy in Whitey Bulger's old apartment. Even the homeless and crazy people are mildly content in LA. The LAPD were handing out baseball cards on the light rail system.

Four minutes into the 4th quarter of Game #10 of the season and there has finally been a lead change in a Redskin game. Skins have trailed the entire game until they scored a tying TD and a go-ahead extra point for a 21-20 lead. All this with the back-up QB Colt McCoy as Smith was knocked out in the 3rd. -- Al

Skins lose 23-21 but the 'score first and win' streak continues as this is the 10th straight Redskin game where that holds true as Houston scored first. The 'no lead change' streak is dead though. -- Al

Down 16-0, the Stoolers pulled a miracle win out of their collective ***** thanks in part to 900 flags on the final drive.

Gee, so unSteeler like to win a game they had zero business winning.

George,

Not really fair assessment. Ben played awful all game, they played very well on all sides in the 4th qtr and they have the weapons as evidenced on the final drive. The penalties were blatant. I don't feel bad for the JERKOFF JAGS in anyway. They are the most brash rude defense out there and they got their rear ends handed to them for a quarter, tough crap. The flags were not even arguable, if you are that blatant , they deserve to get thrown and I think the officiating crew did a good job,. they were not ticky tack fouls, hell, on one of the final plays, the announcers were even laughing as they indicated that they could not find a Jax defender NOT holding! End of day, the Steelers pulled it out and they are still alive, it may be just that kind of year for them, they are going to need a little luck as apparently they cannot put out a consistent offensive scheme, we have the talent, but our execution at times is awful. I will take the win!
