N.F.L. Season 2018-19 (5 Viewers)

I see that Cam Newton has tested positive. You have to wonder whether in a contact sport like football, completing a season in this environment is possible, unless players and staff go into a bubble.

The 1:00pm team flight to KC has been canceled and the players told to go home. NFL is leaning towards canceling the game.

There is no way, no how he's not the only positive on the team, others will test positive as well,.

Nice try by the NFL to have a season, but I just can't see this working, 18 members of the Titans tested positive, they are out minimum of two weeks, Cam is shut down now for two weeks, so he'll miss two games.

It's foolhardy to think this is going to work, it's too much of a contact sport, the NBA and NHL are as well, but those players were in a bubble, you can't do that with football.

This is going to come off the rails sooner than later.

I watched the game and thought it was generally entertaining. Jets defense was completely undisciplined; maybe that’s a function of Gregg Williams. I thought both offenses had some moments; Brett Rypien wasn’t bad. The game was lost for the Jets when late in the game and trailing 27-25, they had a 4th and 1 deep in Broncos territory and Gase opted for the FG. Had they gone for it and made it and scored, they would have been up 32-27 and maybe won. They are a poorly managed team in all respects: terrible coach, GM and ownership. They are unwatchable.

It’s suck for Trevor time.

The problem with that is he's a rookie and will be throw onto a bad team, they drafted Darnold, so what now, you give up on him and move on, you can't keep rebuilding and rebuilding, it's a vicious cycle that you'll never break out of.

Darnold never had a proper coach, plus he's a USC QB. If they do qualify for Trevor, they need to do what the Cardinals did.

NFL is now saying if there are no further positives, the game will be played on Monday/Tuesday.

I just don't see how you can do that, some of the Titan positives came 6 days after the first positive.

If I'm the Chiefs with a loaded 3-0 team, I don't risk having any of my players exposed, not to mention news is breaking now that the Chiefs practice squad QB has tested positive, not sure how often he's around their facility, but that can't be good..........

Joe Montana in his prime would be 0-16 on that sorry Jets team. The entire organization is dysfunctional. What a horrible situation in NY. The Knicks are possibly the worst run organization in all sports. The Jets and Giants are right there though. Only Dirty Danny and his Deadskins are in their league.

Although you'd have to pick Trevor Lawrence if you have first pick, Sam Darnold shouldn't be discarded as just another SC QB. There's a lot to work with there. My NFL fanatic buddy at work says the Jets O-line and receiver corps are easily the worst in the NFL. If he says that I know it's not far from the truth. He said Chris Hogan is their # 2 receiver. No disrespect to Hogan, but he's not a # 2. Also, their star RB Bell is out. I looked up the stats for Darnold from last week, and although stats never tell the whole story, I think he did fairly well for a guy who apparently has no time to survey the field. He was the team's leading rusher with 84 yards including a 46 yd TD run. He's also a leader and a gamer, two facets that can never be underestimated. He's not Trevor Lawrence, but I believe he is a NFL starting QB, and that no one would look good on a team like the inoperable Jets. If the Jets are in position to get Lawrence, they could probably trade Darnold for a lot of draft capital and continue adding pieces to the puzzle from there.

Chris Hogan is on the Jets?

That poor bastard, he was money when he was with the Patriots, made some clutch catches in the Super Bowl win over the Falcons.

I'm not sure what sort off draft picks you could get for Darnold at this point; the problem is any team you trade with, they know you are in a position of weakness as you have to get rid of him.

Why do I have a feeling he's going to go somewhere and with the right QB/OC, he'll thrive.

I have to hand it to Jets QB's; between Sanchez and his butt fumble and Darnold with his "I'm seeing ghosts out there", they certainly have provided Patriots fans with some top shelf entertainment.

These posts about Darnold made me curious about USC and its history of great quarterbacks.

A quarterback from USC has never won a Super Bowl nor has one even been a starter in one.

They don’t have a good track record of success in the NFL.

Odell Beckham Jr....
still terrorizing the defenseless Cowboys in different uniform...
he rushed for 73 yards...
passed to for 81 yards...
3 TD's by himself...
they can't stop any team in the league...
defense gives up 36 1/2 points per game...
that's a ton...
what a joke...

the good news...
Dallas is a fumble machine...
they excel at it...:(

Don't worry Mike; 5-11, 4-12 wins that division, Dallas still has a shot............and imagine this; whoever wins that division gets a home playoff game.............that's just awesome.

And speaking of awesome, the Patriots are playing the Chefs tomorrow night; no other players have tested positive, but they are plowing ahead with the game, that's just dumb as it gets.

This league and their claims of player safety being important are such frauds.

This is a disaster waiting to happen; I find it impossible to think no other Patriot is infected.

Just beyond reckless.

Whatever issues the Jets are having are not the fault of USC. USC has a pretty good track record with the NFL. The Jets stink from top to bottom. No QB in NFL history could save that train wreck.

I think we can do 4-12...if we get on a hot streak...
the Texans were a noon game like the Cowboys today...
regional coverage was the Texans as I'm closer to Houston...
I'm glad the Cowboys were not televised here...
I would have a stomach ache if I had watched it...

won't they test all the Pats before the game???
seems the prudent and logical thing to do...

A little bad blood between Jalen Ramsey and Golden Tate! They apparently have quite a history. Ramsey made a huge tackle on him in that game. Post game brawl. JR apparently divorced GT's sister. What a soap opera. Too bad the Giants didn't expend that kind of effort in the game or any game. They are awful.

The Jets are a terrible team as you said but USC QBs do not have a great record of success in the NFL. No one said it’s USC’s fault. Some very good college players are not great pros. No question about USC players who played non-QB positions, such as Ronnie Lott.

Some of the USC QBs that have played or are playing in the NFL are:

Mark Sanchez
Darnold
Carson Palmer
Matt Leinart
Cody Kessler
Matt Barkley
John David Booty
Todd Marinovich
Rob Johnson
Pat Haden
Rodney Peete
Vince Evans

Except for Haden and Palmer, not great NFL careers. The jury is still out on Darnold.

How many schools have even produced that many NFL QBs? It's a silly criticism. Particularly in the context of discussing the Jets. USC is tied with ND for the most NFL hall of famers. Arguably the top college football program in all history in terms of NFL talent. But the Jets problems are somehow the fault of USC? Put Darnold on a team with a NFL caliber coach and some talent, and he would be a decent QB. But he is on arguably the worst team in the entire league. That is the problem. It's difficult to gauge a QB in that situation.

That's quite a list.

Of tomato cans.

USC's offense;

Student body right
Student body left
Student body up the middle
punt

The jury just came back on Darnold; he's been found to be a stiff.

I loved how the morons on ESPN were gushing when the Jets drafted him, like they found the second coming of Joe Namath, Dan Marino, John Elway and Joe Montana all rolled into one.

I really wish Pete Carroll had stayed at USC, he's the perfect college coach, a great recruiter and talker and such a prototypical college coach, I was a big USC fan as a kid, loved his style and could get behind him, there is nothing like a night game at the LA colosseum with that crowd going nuts, such a tremendous college atmosphere..........college football needs teams like USC to be relevant..................it can't be Alabama/LSU/Georgia/Clemson year after year after year...........

You missed the point. This isn’t about the Jets but about how well USC QBs have done in the NFL, which is not very well. As I said in my prior post, USC has produced players who were great NFL players, just not at QB. You also raise a good point about other schools. I don’t believe ND has had a lot of good NFL QBs but I haven’t checked.

As far as Darnold, he hasn’t had a decent coach. Hopefully he will get one but that has nothing to do with the other QBs that have played in the NFL.

That because your point doesn't make any sense. Going back decades to discuss USC QBs in the context of the Jets current woes is not relevant. That is the point. The Jets stink. No QB including Joe Montana in his prime would make an iota of difference to that dumpster fire. There is no fair way to judge Darnold in that context. To blame his lack of a "decent coach" at USC - whatever that is supposed to mean - for the Jets problems is just silly. USC won a Rose Bowl with Darnold. But the point you seem to be making is that the Jets stink because they picked a "USC" QB and the they have a history of not being good. Put any NFL QB on the Jets, and they will still lose. They are that bad. It has nothing to do with USC or their QBs. Particularly those from decades ago.
