N.F.L. Season 2018-19 (1 Viewer)

You can disagree if you wish and I understand you are proud of your school, and understandably so, but I addressed your points and there is nothing more to say on the topic, at least for me. Have a nice evening.

Looks like 4-11-1 will get it done in the NFC East...............

That's quite a list.

Of tomato cans.

USC's offense;

Student body right
Student body left
Student body up the middle
punt

The jury just came back on Darnold; he's been found to be a stiff.

I loved how the morons on ESPN were gushing when the Jets drafted him, like they found the second coming of Joe Namath, Dan Marino, John Elway and Joe Montana all rolled into one.

I really wish Pete Carroll had stayed at USC, he's the perfect college coach, a great recruiter and talker and such a prototypical college coach, I was a big USC fan as a kid, loved his style and could get behind him, there is nothing like a night game at the LA colosseum with that crowd going nuts, such a tremendous college atmosphere..........college football needs teams like USC to be relevant..................it can't be Alabama/LSU/Georgia/Clemson year after year after year...........

I think calling Darnold a stiff is a bit premature, George. I think he has the tools to succeed in today's NFL. He throws a lot of pics and that must be corrected, but he's much more than say Sanchez was who struggled on a Jets team that was much more complete. Give Darnold time. He can lead, is dynamic, coachable, and he will keep fighting. He'll catch on....somewhere.

Joe

The Jets are a terrible team as you said but USC QBs do not have a great record of success in the NFL. No one said it’s USC’s fault. Some very good college players are not great pros. No question about USC players who played non-QB positions, such as Ronnie Lott.

Some of the USC QBs that have played or are playing in the NFL are:

Mark Sanchez
Darnold
Carson Palmer
Matt Leinart
Cody Kessler
Matt Barkley
John David Booty
Todd Marinovich
Rob Johnson
Pat Haden
Rodney Peete
Vince Evans

Except for Haden and Palmer, not great NFL careers. The jury is still out on Darnold.

Brad,
I have to agree in that most of the guys on this list are not starting quality NFL QB's. But to be fair it should be noted that most of the guys on this list were not particularly high draft choices (Peete, Johnson, Booty, Kessler, Barkley, Evans), and they were not expected to light up the NFL. Yet several have managed to make NFL rosters for extended periods as backups. Sanchez was over-hyped/drafted based on one good collegiate year. Leinart was drafted high, but it was no secret that his arm strength was a big question mark going into the draft. Haden had an ok career and played for quite awhile. Palmer was the best from the list. The one that hurts, of course, is Marinovich....could have been special as a pro. He was a 1st round pick and was projected to do well in the NFL, but we know Todd has a lot of issues. I really enjoyed watching him play and I hope he is hanging in there and well wherever he is.
Darnold is a different athlete than everyone on this list. I agree with you that the jury is still out on him. If he can get his turnover problem under control (big if, I know), I think he sticks somewhere and could surprise a few folks. He has the tools and the right attitude.

For what it's worth in regards to prolific NFL players, SC is better known for just about any other position than QB, especially RB, OT, DE/LB, WR, & DB.

You made a lot of my points Joe. Just for clarity, I wasn’t criticizing Darnold’s coaches at SC but his Jet coaches. Hopefully, the Jets pick a new HC who will be able to bring out his abilities. Enough on this topic.

I had a bad feeling about last night’s 49er game. I didn’t like that the Eagles hadn’t won a game. I figured they would be desperate and play better and they did. Moreover, the injuries caught up with them and they weren’t playing the Jets or Giants anymore. Hopefully, some of the injured come back next week.

Brad,

Yes, I just wanted to add some extra detail to what you had posted regarding SC qb's.
Regarding Darnold's coaching, I don't know who he has for coaches at NY, but his college coaches (Clay & Tyson Helton) were average at best.

I didn't catch the 49er's game but heard of their severe injury woes and now Ziggy Ansah might have a serious injury. It's crazy to lose so many key people and so quickly. It's definitely past tourniquet time for the 'niners. I hope all the injured players recover completely and ahead of schedule.

Joe

Joe,

My son, who is the 49er fan, told me Ansah is out for the season. They have too many injuries.

That is brutal news. Your son and all niner fans must be reeling and wondering when the onslaught will end- very sad.

The NFL season is 1/4 complete and 14 teams in the league have 1 win or less with 10 teams with 1 win and 4 teams with 0 wins.

If you watch the NFL Network (which is owned by the NFL) then all of you would know that the number of playoff teams doesn’t matter since the Kansas City Chiefs are going to win the next 10 Super Bowls, all while going undefeated in the regular season.

This post made me laugh when I first read it; after that ****show of a referee performance last night, now I'm furious.

Just three small examples;
A Patriots running back gets horsecollared and tackled out of bounds, flag is thrown, referees huddle and announce no penalty?
Later in the game, a similar situation with Mahommes, he flopped more than anything, FLAG, 15 YARD PENALTY. Wonderful, nice.

On a third down pass to that ****head Kelce, a Patriots defender rushing Mahommes is hogtied, tackled and taken to the ground............also, that POS Hill ran a pic play on the defender covering Kelce, something the Chiefs do ALL THE TIME..................neither play is penalized.

On third down, Mahommes is running around, is hit, starts to go down, loses control of the ball/tries a shovel pass, it gets intercepted and run back to about the Chiefs 10 yard line...................OH WAIT; the play was whistled dead, "in the grasp", dead ball, no turnover, 4th down, BUT GUARANTEED if Mahommes has somehow found a way to shovel that to a running back and they got the first down, no whistle.

It's bad enough the Patriots had no Cam last night, but it's impossible to beat the Chiefs AND the refs.

Even my moron next door neighbor/Patriots hater (He's a Cowboys fan; insert your laugh track here) said they got screwed multiple times last night.

What a joke.

Just embarrassing, this sport is becoming unwatchable.

There was no chance to beat the Chiefs with those QBs. I'm not even sure who those guys were but there were a couple of short order cooks missing at the Cracker Barrel. Hoyer even had a Chris Webber moment after taking a sack right before halftime and then trying to call a timeout even though the Pats had none.

The NFL Network post made me laugh too...
yet another conspiracy theory...
OMG!...
all professional sports are rigged...along with the WWE...why do you guys even watch them if you think they are really rigged?

the line was KC -7 1/2 til Newton was banned...
it went up to 12 after that...
KC was a huge favorite...
they won by 16...

I will gladly admit...NE played very well in the 1st half...I was totally impressed...like him or not...Belichick had game plan and his team was well prepared...
just a lot of miscues...through the whole game...kind of like the Cowboys this year...

3 interceptions and 1 fumble...one a pick 6...really shot them in the foot...

Hoyer sacked while time ran out in the 1st half cost them points...forfeited field goal attempt...
Hoyer fumbling cost them points...forfeited another field goal try...
if it was rigged...these mistakes didn't make the refs job of rigging the game very hard...

with the 4 turnovers...it's hard to win...

Yeah wasn't that wonderful, as was his "pat, pat, pat........sack, fumble".........he sucks, he's the true definition of a clipboard holder, every time he's had a chance, he craps himself, imagine this stiff has had a 12 year NFL career.

Mike,
Did you watch the game; on the Mahommes fumbe/int that was ruled in the grasp..........that was a load of horseshit, even that ballbag Steratore admitted it, the whistle blew THREE seconds AFTER he fumbled, but they ruled him down?

And the two tackles out of bounds; one flag is picked up, the other is allowed to stand.

It's pure and utter BS.

Bad officiating when you're playing with one arm tied behind your back is the kiss of death.

My Dad, the ex police officer, used to say all the time a lot of sports are rigged, I used to laugh it off.

I don't anymore.

Just like the folks who claim there are no such thing as aliens and Oswald was the lone shooter............"Back and to the left..........back and to the left".......................

George...

I did watch the game...from start to finish...I bet that game and it was our local coverage...after watching KC manhandle what I still think is a very good Baltimore team last week...I took KC (-12) and felt NE was so under manned without Cam...
that it would be a total KC blowout...maybe winning by 4 TD's...

I was totally amazed...and worried about losing after watching the 1st half...
if you told me that NE could hold KC to 6 points in the first half...I would have just laughed at you...

for years I have wondered if NE's success was Brady...Belichick...or the team and coach as a whole...I still don't have an answer that I can commit to...Tampa Bay (Brady) is now 3-1...

I really believe Belichick is the best coach in the NFL...and if Cam had been healthy...there might have been a big upset last night...at least the game would have been closer in my opinion...KC was favored by 7 1/2 before he got sick...line jumped to 12 when Hoyer was announced the starter...

I try not to dwell on penalties called correctly or not...as I think it's part of the game and a waste of time...it happens to all teams...I have had many calls go against me...I'm sure a KC fan could find several calls that he felt didn't go their way...

I don't believe that the NFL (NBA or MLB) would jeopardize their cash cows by getting involved in a point shaving scandal...if the league ever got caught being involved in cheating...that would demolish their viewership...no matter what you guys say...it just ain't so...their is no conspiracy...no way the leagues would be in cahoots with such an idea...no way...if you think you got some bad calls...that's just part of the game and always will be...

It was, is and always will be Belichick, players come and go, he's the man behind the team and how they conduct themselves.

Mahommes looked dazed and confused all night long, they rushed 5, then dropped 2 into coverage, had 6 DBs in the game, we have far and away the best secondary in the league.

If they can pull out a win vs Denver this Sunday and get Cam back, I like their chances against anybody in the league...........................if Belichick wins a Super Bowl the year Brady left, there will be nothing left to say about how much of a genius he is.

Brady & Belichick could play against each other in the SB...^&grin

Mike:

My post about the NFL does not say anything about games being rigged. It is about the NFL and it’s constant need to hype up teams before they come close to accomplishing what the league wants them too.

Kansas City has won 1 Super Bowl, and yes, they are very good this year. But Seattle looks great, Green Bay looks great and the Bills will give any team they play a run for their money.

Let’s see KC win a couple more Super Bowls before we crown them as the greatest franchise in the history of pro sports while also saying that Andy Reid is the great coach and Mahomes is the greatest QB.

-Jason

Gilmore tested positive.

Another Titan has tested positive.

One of the Raiders has tested positive.

This thing is going to come off the rails.

But the games still go on.

Yeah, the league is really concerned about player safety.

They're concerned about money and greed.
