N.F.L. Season 2018-19 (1 Viewer)

Flacco didn't look he was on board with that "tank it" theory...
I think he was looking to get a contract renewed...

Not stupid. We don’t want a win. If the Jets won, they’d be tied with the Jaguars for the number 1 pick. They’re still leading in the Trevor sweepstakes.

I belong to a Boston based sports forum and there are game threads people chime in on live as the game is in progress, it's loads of fun to belong to, a lot of good old fashioned ribbing and no one gets offended.

A number of posters were openly rooting for the Patriots to lose; really?

They won and are 3-5, still alive for a playoff spot.

Football is the ONE sport where a team can come out of nowhere and steal a Super Bowl; the Giants (TWICE), Ravens among others come to mind, several others got hot, got to either the AFCCG or the NFCCG and lost, but you play to win the games as a famous coach once said.

Tanking is for losers.

Cam seems to be coming out of his post COVID funk, I still say he's shaking the rust off from that and my God, who can blame him.

I watch the games to see 100% effort, not tanking.

Well, had the Pats lost they’d be right there for the QB. Bad win for them.

I'm with you 100% on the part that you always play to win. Not so much, though, on the Pats having any chance this year to win the SB. That's pretty optimistic. They struggled to beat the single worst team in the NFL. The Bills and Dolphins kept winning. They are a long shot to even make the playoffs.

Understood completely, they are the longest of long shots, there are currently 9 teams ahead of them in the standings and realistically, they need to go 7-1 to have any kind of a shot.

But then I think about the 9-7 New York Football Giants that got hot at the right time and won a Super Bowl.

It's just one example, there are other teams that got hot and did not win the Super Bowl or advance past the AFCCG or the NFCCG, so, we'll see.............................

I agree with George about tanking- the cynical aspect of which leaves a foul scent. Asking your players to quit/ game planning to lose/ failure by design may be deemed strategic by some, but it goes against everything positive in those who are competitive by nature. You risk doing a lot of damage on multiple levels by this type of mindset, and you're still not guaranteed the top spot in the draft or that your can't miss guy will even pan out in your organization. You play every game to win and to improve. Let the chips fall were they may. If you're a bad team and in the conversation to be among those with the worst records to begin with, you likely will have many positional needs and will have a shot at a college stud or may even be in position to trade up for the gem in the draft. That's the honorable way to do it. Never play to lose.

Paul Hornung, an All American and Heisman Trophy winner at QB for Notre Dame and all pro halfback with the Packers has died from Dementia at 84. He was the NFL's first playboy before Joe Namath. He had filed a lawsuit with Riddell saying their helmets didn't protect them enough and caused his Dementia. R.I.P. He won four titles with the Packers.

Sad to hear this. With the passing of Hornung, all of the backfield from the Packers glory years in the 60's have now gone. Taylor in 2018, Starr in 2019, and now Hornung. Make no mistake, I hated the Packers, but they were the best team of the 60's and these men were the heart of those great teams. RIP. -- Al

The Seachickens, TN, and Ravens are dropping like a rock. Playing in a monsoon seemed to help the Pats chances. Maybe that is the trick. Old Bill will probably turn the sprinklers on for future games. The Steelers are rolling.

Big Ben is the key to the Steeler puzzle, makes the entire team work. Hopefully he stays healthy and consistent, they have a chance. That said, all changes in a moment, still not invested heavily in this season. I just hope they keep on winning and especially on Tgiving. Undefeated is an enormous pressure though, wonderful to do it, but 14 and 2 achieves same result for playoffs which at the end of day are the only thing that matters!

As awesome as it is to think of making history and going undefeated, you are spot on in that the pressure builds week to week, the 2007 Patriots, 2009 Colts and 2015 Panthers all caved in the pressure and couldn't finish the deal..........................you're better off losing a game or two and then refocusing on what really matters, winning the Super Bowl...............whether it's the Steelers or the Chiefs coming out of the AFC, I can't see any team in the NFC beating either one of them, we'll see.................

Not a fan of Big Ben. Either as a player or person. He certainly is an improvement over that guy from last year but the Steelers success is almost entirely from their defense. They are beasts on D. The game becomes pretty easy for the O when you have a defense like the Steelers. They just have to be average on offense.

You have to be happy with the Rams. That’s turned into a very competitive division, probably the toughest division in football.

The Rams have mostly benefitted from playing every team in the NFC East (4 easy wins) and the struggles of the Niners and Seahawks. The Cards are the only improved team this year in the NFC West division. The Rams are not a Super Bowl caliber team, though. Goff is awful. It's hard to get beyond that. They have some skill players and a decent D to beat the non-playoff teams, but they will not beat the elite teams.

Completely disagree. Ben is the key to the team from leadership, cohesion and performance. We have had plenty of "studs" on defense over the years, but at the end of the day in this day and age - it is ALL Quarterback and it is easy to see he is the General of that team. When he is there, all ships rise and play to the best of their ability. Been doing it for 17 years, he puts a lot of others to shame.

As to him personally, yes he was a young ahole once as a lot of them are, however, I think he has more than grown up and he is very respected around the league for his maturity. I didn't like him when he was young either, but he is a completely different person and you have to give credit where due. The guy has given back a lot not only to his community, his hometown, he alma mater, etc. What more do you want him to do? He also doesn't appear in the press alot with a lot of happy horsepuckey, his actions dictate his path. No excuses ever from the guy and about as durable as you get.

As to him as a player - First Round Hall of Famer NO Brainer. 3 Superbowls, Won 2, consistently high passer rating, no argument. Put him on any team and they would be successful so not sure about either of your comments or your bullcrap comments above especially over the guy last year? Huh, what planet are you on? There is no zero zilch argument on his ability, talent and command of the field.

Their new uniforms are growing on me, not bad actually.

Still have to go Packers/Chargers/Raiders/49ers/Cowboys home uni's/when Dallas wears the dark blue jersey...........................

My top five favorite helmets too.....................

You forgot the bit about the numerous claims of sexual assault. All these guys are told to set up charities to improve their reputation after they get in trouble. Some PR guy handles that for him. A few homers are then convinced they are a saint. He is a slightly above average QB with the best defense in the league. Substitute any starting NFL QB and the Steelers are still doing well with that defense and coaching. They even had a winning record last year with that sorry backup QB who couldn't start on a high school team.

Drew Brees has multiple fractured ribs and a collapsed lung.

Holy smokes.

Welp, the path is now clear for Brady, Gronk and Brown to waltz to the Super Bowl.........

Imagine Brady/Bucs vs the undefeated Steelers.

Steelers win, get the perfect season, pass the Patriots for most Super Bowl wins with 7.
Bucs win, Brady, Gronk and Brown get to yuck it up.

I'll go with the Steelers winning; an undefeated season would be cool, 7 Super Bowl wins would be cool too.

Hard to argue the Steelers are not the most successful organization in the NFL, dominated the 1970's, tailed off a bit in the 80's and 90's, have been a very good team for most of the past 20 or so years.

I'd still have to go Packers/Steelers/Cowboys/Patriots as top four all time franchises.

In my ranking, I'd also include the 49ers as a top franchise, maybe 4a right behind New England..................

It will come down to the Steelers and Chiefs in the AFC championship game. The winner of that game is the favorite. But I know you have the LA love in those snazzy new uniforms. So maybe the trifecta for LA this year with the Lakers, Dodgers, and Rams. And the mighty (and fully NCAA compliant) Trojans are hanging in there. I also like those new LA Kings retro jerseys, so there might have to be a new word invented for LA winning a championship in every sport.
