They’re depleted but not out and Sherman, Deebo and Mostert were back today. At this point they’re only a game out of the 7th spot.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again, if a division cannot produce a team with a winning record, it does not deserve a playoff spot for the division "champion." I say this while the 4-7 Giants are in first place in the woeful NFC LEast (pin intended). It is likely that a 6 or 7 win team, quite possible the aforesaid pathetically bad Giants, who got their 4th win by two points over a 2-8-1 Bungles Team without its starting QB, will win this once proud division, which has stunk on ice this season. If, as is likely, the "champion" has a losing record, the first wildcard team should get the 4th cede, and first team that would have missed the wildcard with a winning record should get the final playoff spot, and the Giants should stay home with the rest of the losers from the NFC East. As George would say, to compare this division to a dumpster fire is an insult to dumpster fires.
Understood, but this happens from time to time; in a year where sports stories have been pretty hollywoodish, imagine if the 6-10 Giants win the division, get hot, get to the Super Bowl and beat the undefeated Steelers.................that would be two perfect seasons they trashed...........................it would be arguably the greatest sports story ever....................
The story of the 7-9 Seahawks is a perfect illustration of my point. The Seahawks at 7-9 hosted a playoff game against a Saints team with a winning record. The Saints were a done team and the Seahawks with the acoustics of their stadium gave this team with a losing record the opportunity to defeat a team they should not have even played. They went on to be easy fodder for the Bears on the road the following week. Divisional play in all sports is stupid. It gives teams in a bad division an unfair advantage as they play an unbalanced schedule against lesser teams and pad their record. If you put a moderately good team into the NFC East, instead of 10-6, they would be 13-3 or 14-2 (the NFC East record against other divisions is abysmal). If you put a really good Team like the Patriot dynasty team from the last decade into the present NFC East, they would vie for a perfect season every year. Teams should play a balanced schedule so at the end of the season the win loss record reflects the same level of difficulty, and the 6 best records in each conference should make the playoffs with the best two records earning a bye, and the teams receded each round by record, so the best remaining team plays hosts the worse. But then again I want to see football from the 70’s and 80’s again, where defense is allowed to play defense and all the ridiculous rules about defenseless receivers and touching quarterbacks in the wrong place are eighty-sixed, so I’m just a dinosaur anyway. Football was, and really always will be a violent sport. For all the efforts to legislate violence out of the game I see just as many helmet to helmet hits. The only difference is that now offensive players lower their helmets to initiate helmet to helmet contact knowing it will be a 15 yard penalty on the defense. As I’ve mentioned before the Seahawks finished 7-9 in 2010, won the division and beat the Saints in a playoff game so don’t sell a team with a losing record short. Moreover, it’s possible that one of these teams could finish 8-8; the Giants once made the playoffs at 8-8.

The Giants were 9-7 one year and won the division, I don't recall them being 8-8 and getting to the playoffs, maybe you're right, but I don't remember it happening.
IMO, the chances of any team in the NFC East finishing @ .500 are practically nil. The remaining games for these teams simply are too tough for any more than 1 or 2 wins per team. Not counting remaining in-conference games, which could go any way because the teams are so bad, the Cowboys seem to have the easiest time, playing the Ravens, Bengals, and 49ers. If they get lucky, they finish 6-10. The Eagles have to play Seattle, Green Bay, the Saints, and Cards. If they get lucky, they finish 6-9-1. The Giants have Seattle, Cards, Browns, and Ravens. If they get lucky, 7-9, at best. The Redskins have Pittsburgh, SF, Seattle, and the Panthers, so 5-11. I'm thinking 6-10 takes this division. What a disgrace this division is this season. If these teams continue to play as badly as they have been, it's possible the division winner has 5 wins and this is not beyond the realm of possibility. 8-8 is a pipe dream for the NFC East. -- Al
A disgrace, indeed, but highly possible. If it weren't for the Giants holding the tie-break against the Redskins, I wouldn't be surprised to see the awful Redskins compete for the 'title'. -- AlThe Giants may be in trouble because their QB has a hamstring problem. Colt McCoy isn’t going to win it for them. I can’t see any of these teams beating the other teams mentioned by Al, except the Cowboys beating the Bengals.
The way I see it is the Giants, Washington and Eagles with five each and the Cowboys with four. The only thing in the Giants favor is that all their games (except the Niners game) have been competitive.
It would be a disgrace if five wins earns one of these teams a playoff spot.

Ravens Steelers now Wednesday at 3:40PM, yup, you read that right. What a bunch of malarkey. Why don't they just wait long enough so the Ravens get all of the players off of the COVID list. Seems to me the reckless are being rewarded in this case, now they have the running backs to return when they were the first to go on the list. If you were positive, how do you come off it so easily? I give up on trying to figure this out> The Ravens as an organization deserve something to happen over this. Largest outbreak caused by NOT following the rules, but since they slapped the wrist of their own personnel I guess its ok.............

There has never been a forfeit in an NFL game. There is no precedent and as Louis says, there is money involved. I think you can bet money that no forfeit has been contemplated and is not forthcoming. -- Al
