N.F.L. Season 2018-19 (1 Viewer)

I remember Collinsworth yammering on SNF about how he's safe, he won a SB three years ago, he's not going anywhere.

Right.

Another example of what have you done for me lately, coaches get hired to get fired, that's the nature of the profession.

Interested to what the Pats decide on a new QB. Wentz, DeShawn Watson, Goff should all be on the market. Miami is apparently interested in trading Tua for Watson. That is is a strange move. I would love to see the Rams unload Goff. A nice guy but mediocre QB. Chicago and Washington should be in the market for a QB. I think Wentz might be a good move for the Pats.

I don't think Wentz is a good move for any team...

Deshaun Watson is a very good QB...on a very bad team....
his numbers are fantastic...
but he is unhappy with the way the team is being run...
also very unhappy for not being included in decisions as promised he would be...
they traded his best wide receiver last year...
JJ Watts has publicly called the team out as quitters...having no heart...he wants to leave...

if Watson leaves...whoever gets him is getting a good QB...
NE should trade for him...

The upside to Wentz is that he is coachable and the cost of obtaining him will be small in comparison to Watson. In Belichick's hands, I think Wentz might start playing to his potential. But it would be risky. Once a QB like Goff or Wentz starts losing confidence they almost can never turn it around. Rivers might be an interesting one year experiment. He seems cursed though in terms of winning. A modern day Dan Marino.

They'd have to back up the truck to get Watson and if they do, their offense is seriously void of WR/TE talent, it would sort of be waste of his talent.

I don't want a retread here, I'd prefer they do full rebuild around a young QB that they get via the draft, but the problem is most of the good QB's will be gone by the time they pick at #15.

They're pretty much screwed to be honest.

He's going to cost a fortune to trade for............and I don't want Wentz, man did he fall off a cliff, before he got hurt in 2017 he was having an MVP type year, then Folsie stepped in and caught lightning in a bottle.............still cannot believe they blew that Super Bowl.

Rivers is toast, he flings the ball sideways, his arm looks shot.

Hard pass.

Bringing in Wentz is a huge risk; what if he really just lost it, then what do you do?

I think with the coach gone, he stays in Philly.

Wentz is so damaged mentally...
I don't think he will ever have a good career...

I used to think the same about Rivers...
for years I watched them slap him around in San Diego...
then he would get pissed and throw an interception...
then he would pick a fight with a 300 lb. defensive lineman...^&grin
he's a character...
but I think he's a fiery competitor that can make accurate long passes when given the time..

this year he had a bit of an O-line...
and put up some pretty good numbers...
I wouldn't believe Indy would even trade him...
he looks revitalized to me...

I hope Dak heals 100% and somebody doesn't steal him away...
might have to be the franchise tag again at 37+ this year...
he only want a 4 year contract so he can renegotiate in 4 years...
has turned down 35ish for a 5 year stunt...

I don't want to see Watson end up with the Niners. With their D, once they get healthy that could be a lethal combo. Better for him to end up with the Deadskins or someplace the Rams don't have to deal with him!

Watson had a great year this year...
because the rest of the team sucks so bad...he's the sleeper of the year...
33 TD's...7 INT's...
led the league in passing yards...4,823...
completion rate at over 70%...just a pinch behind Rogers and Brees...
accurate deep ball thrower...leads the league in average yards per catch...
3rd in the league in yards per game behind Mahomes and Prescott...
rating 112...
I'm no fan of the Texans...
but he is a very good QB that is not happy...
throw enough money at him...and he could be...

There are some interesting “college football” quarterback match-ups in this weekend’s playoff games:

Brees vs. Brady (both Big 10 QBs)

Goff vs. Rodgers (both PAC 12 QBs)

Mayfield vs. Mahomes (both Big 12 QBs)

Going to be interesting decisions in Pittsburgh coming up. Ben will be an interesting decision. I don't think he will play anywhere else, but his years past long deferrals now finally hit the Cap and that is going to be problematic to keep or attract talent. Assuming you get healthy on defense, then it becomes an offensive issue. Do you keep your talent and bring in a QB or stick with Ben and Pouncey one last time and try to make a run. I think this year proved that if you keep Ben, by not having a running game and a complete bombs away passing game, it became stagnated. Still high powered, but easier to defend and prone to mistakes. As much I think we squandered Ben's later years, I sadly think it has come to an end. I would still take him over 90% of the Qb's in the NFL, but if you can't keep a lot of talent around him, just doesn't make sense. I also do believe the elbow greatly impacted his long bombs which were a hallmark to the offense and they obviously didn't want him holding the ball at all, so no true progression of reads/scrambles, that reduces dimensional flexibility.

IMO

If they keep him this upcoming season, he counts 41 million vs the cap, if they cut him, they're stuck with nearly 20 million in dead money vs the cap, sort of a no win situation either way.

You need a degree in nuclear physics to figure out the cap; Brady left the Patriots as a free agent and signed with Tampa, yet the Patriots were still on the hook for 11 million in dead money towards the cap, how is that possible, he's no longer on the team?

What a joke the salary cap is............................

I think they both he and Pouncey have to retire, then it makes it workable. I saw some scenarios that included Matt Stafford, Dak Prescott, Darnald, and Wentz. Who knows, long way off but will be interesting nonetheless.

My picks for this weekend:

Green Bay 27 Rams 13 - I would love to see the Rams somehow pull this one but long experience of playoff road games in these artic climates leads me to conclude it won't happen. The Rams D will give them a shot but I can't see an injured Goff or backup playing in only his third NFL game going into that hostile climate and outdueling Rodgers. Just not enough points to pull it out unless they get a D or special teams TD.

Buffalo 30 Baltimore 24 - The Ravens played great D last week but except for a couple runs by "Small Game" Lamar they didn't impress me much. Jackson has a long history of choking in big games. The Bills can score points.

KC 41 Cleveland 20 - This is a beatdown in the making.

NO 38 Tampa 17 - The Saints are just the better team.

I am always wary of a team coming off the bye, they either come out firing on all cylinders or burping and farting.

I think the Packers/Rams game being closer; I am conflicted as I like both teams, but I want the Packers to advance as I love Rodgers and want to see him get another shot at a Super Bowl.

I hope Baltimore wins, I'm sick of "Bills Mafia" already.

The Chefs get a tomato can in the second round.

I think New Orleans lights up the Bucs, not sold on their defense at all.

Three of the four games will be played at or below freezing, while one will be played in a dome void of fans.

In the age of COVID home-field advantage is all about the weather.

Reports are Jacksonville is hiring none other than Urban Meyer as their next head coach.

Ok then.

So yet another successful college coach (Spurrier/Kelly/Saban come to mind) is going pro so to speak.

I'll get my popcorn ready now.

Must have a massive ego. He already has more money than he could spend in a hundred lifetimes. And a cushy TV job. Why take this on with his health issues? And the NFL is not like the NCAA where you can stack the deck with talent. I don't get it. Meanwhile there is some buzz that the Rams could deal Goff for Watson. They would have to throw in a ton of draft picks but it would be a win now approach for the Rams starting next season.

I don't get it either and yes, it's all about ego for these guys.

Why put yourself through that if you don't have to?

Wow, that would be tremendous, him running the offense and that defense?

What a combination that would be, they'd be the instant favorite to get to the SB in 2022 with Brees probably retiring and Brady and Rodgers another year older.

an old QB will most probably represent the NFC in the SB...
Brady is 43...
Brees is 42...
Rogers is a spry 37...
average age is over 40...

OLD GUYS RULE!
