N.F.L. Season 2018-19 (2 Viewers)

Trade is official; Bennett AND a 7th round pick to NE for a 5th...…………..he had 8 sacks last year, 30 QB pressures/hits.

Both would have led NE last year...…………………….LOL...…………………..

Another good role model for the Pats! Sounds like a real prince. If he lines up against any old ladies in wheelchairs, he will be a superstar. He can really steamroll them. At least he and $59 can share a lawyer. A cap move for the Eagles. They were going to cut him, but could work out for the Pats unless he ends up in jail on his felony charge or is suspended. He is a good player.

Interesting proposal from the Broncos regarding an alternative to onside kicks. Not sure if I like it or not, but given the modern NFL offense this would probably result in a big jump in success. A team will be much more likely to make up a couple of scores late in a game.

"Broncos proposal would give teams the option of, once per game during the fourth quarter, trying to retain possession by converting a fourth-and-15 play from the 35-yard line."

Antonio Brown goes to the Raiders.

For a 3rd and a 5th?!?!?!

There HAS to be something else, right?

Nope?

Ok then.

This really is an incredible deal for Oakland, and one of the worst deals ever in NFL history for Pittsburgh. Not only do the basically give away one of the best WRs in the league — and in league history — but they have to eat a $21million dead cap hit for next year. I mean, it has to be fairly unprecedented with respect to 1.) Giving up a superstar in his prime, 2.) Getting almost no return, 3.) Having ~15% of your salary cap wasted.

Pittsburgh has obviously been a model franchise for a long time, but having Bell sit out last year and losing AB like this this year looks pretty bad, particularly with their window closing with Ben.

If this were the Patriots, the fans would be storming the castle with torches and pitchforks.

I think it was a 3rd round pick and a fifth of scotch.

I assume the return was so poor because he apparently could veto a trade, as he did with the Bills, plus they wanted to get rid of him and his headaches.

Now, let's drink that fifth.

From what I hear on Brown, the Steelers really wanted him out. I am not impressed at all on the trade, but who knows, you never know what will/could happen. I do know that they thought having him around was worse for whatever internal reasons.

There is a ton of NFL talent that teams are cutting to free up cap space or giving up to free themselves of a headache. No trade value from a position where everyone knows you have to unload a guy.

One thing to consider is that when teams know that you want to or have to trade someone, they are not going to much offer in return. This may have been the best offer on the table, with the Steelers' choices being limited by where Brown would accept a trade to.

I suppose you're correct, the NFL works like no other league with all the front loaded/bonus money contracts, players get cut left and right to save money on the cap who have potential value, as you said they get traded away and you get .10 cents on the dollar in return.

That's why I was laughing last year when the Patriots traded away what everyone was claiming was their future franchise QB and they got back not a lot in return...………….you get what you get when these guys are coming up to free agency as they force your hand when they tell you, "Nope, I'm not signing for X dollars, so trade me", your hands are tied...…………………….

Don't worry Tom, the way the Steelers draft, they'll end up with two Hall of Famers in return for Brown.

Something about the Steelers and the diamonds they always find in the rough, unlike 99% of the teams out there, which is why they've been basically in contention for a Super Bowl for about 19 years strait now.

The fact that the Raiders got AB is telling. They’re basically the NFL version of the land of misfit toys, no?

Still shocked Manziel didn’t end up a Raider. He may yet.

Yes, the Raiders cultivated a bad boy image for many years. I was going to college in LA when they played at the Coliseum. Their fans were outlandish and obnoxious. Drunks, fights at games. You took your life in your hands. It worked for them back then but not in a long while. A complete dumpster fire over the last couple decades of bad coaches and moves. Moving to Vegas should be interesting.

I've said this before, but I've been to a number of opposing team stadiums; the two times I literally feared for my life were in 1986 at the coliseum when the Patriots played the Raiders in the playoffs, we were right in the middle of what looked like a gang turf war in our section, the second time was in 2007 on a Monday night when the Patriots played the Ravens, we were surrounded by mouth breathing escaped mental patients.

And those were the women...……………...

I was at the 1984 AFC Championship game when the Raiders played the Seahawks. 37 years ago! I can still remember where I sat. The Raiders crushed them and fans started running onto the field after the game. The LAPD brought out the mounted cavalry and I still remember them clubbing people over the head with their billy sticks. The LAPD was not to be trifled with in those days. A perfect storm of drunken marauders and the forces of order.

My Dad was a member of the Boston Police Department for 37 years, one of his gigs was in the mounted unit.

When the Red Sox beat the Angels in the 1986 ALCS in game 7, he snuck me and two of my friends in to see the game live, we snuck down to Pesky's pole in right field as the game ended. My Dad was out on the field with several other mounted officers and he saw me by the pole and waived me and my friends onto the field, we were running to where he was and apparently several other nitwits tried to join us...………..I see my Dad and two other officers galloping towards these clambrains, they chased them down like French lancers going after Ponsonby at Waterloo, it did not end well for those guys either...………….;)…………...

You used to have to worry about fan brawls at Niner games when they played at Candlestick Park. You could always count on at least a dozen fights between 49er fans and fans of the visiting team.

Now? At Levi Stadium you might overhear an "argument" between two "fans" as to whose investment portfolio's forecast is better. True football fans are rare at 49er games, it is all corporate now.

I saw that yesterday...
I'm glad he is out of the NFC East...
can't believe they just signed him to a mega contract a few months ago and then trade him...
I think the owner got tired of his sideline antics...
still...
glad I don't have to see him twice a year...
nobody could cover him...
