N.F.L. Season 2018-19 (4 Viewers)

Oh goodie; Iggles/Jints this Thursday night, another game where I'll be rooting for a meteor to hit the stadium.

Boy, is the NFC East a trainwreck or what? Redskins in 1st place with a 2-2 record. Powerhouse division!:rolleyes2: -- Al

I thought the Eagles would be better than they are. Hopefully, they will beat the Giants on Thursday.

Steelers - amazing when you play a blitzburgh defense and it doesn't hurt when Big Ben can actually find AB on passes. Much different football team, although at home against the terrible Falcons, I guess it is what it is. Bet the Steelers would like to have the Cleveland and Baltimore Games back now...................

I want to see analytics on teams that have committee RBs v. Main back. Seems teams that focus on one running back (with the addition of a passing down back) do better. Just a feeling though, haven’t looked into it

The Redskins have changed just about everything over the last few years in an attempt to win. The one constant has been Jay Gruden. It might be time for him to go.

Jason, interesting you say that as it has become a point of discussion lately, what with the continued inconsistency the Redskins continue to display, decent one week, a total wreck the next. Gruden is running short of time and a change wouldn't surprise if current trends continue. -- Al

Here too, aside from the fantasy players and the gamblers.

After every semi hard hit, I look for a flag for roughing.

After every third down stop, I look for a flag for defensive holding or pass interference.

After every score, I look for the flag for offensive holding.

After every big punt or kick off return, I look for the flag for illegal block in the back.

The game in 2018 frankly sucks.

I do the same thing...
on every single play...
I can't even get excited til I know that yellow penalty bar at the bottom of my screen doesn't pop up...
I no longer dare to have an instantaneous celebrations anymore...
been disappointed too many times with a flag...
too many times the play is called back for some nit picky infraction...

I don't even understand the QB roughing rule of not falling on the QB with your full body weight...
how is that even possible when hit him head on and you wrap him up bringing him to the ground...

I saw JJ Watts hit Dak last week...
leading with his helmet 100%...
dead center in Dak's chest...
so hard that it must have left an imprint on his chest...
no foul...hahaha...
I just don't understand it...
I don't know what a foul is anymore...

they have taken a lot of the athleticism out of the game protecting the players with the rules...
it all favors the offense...

The stats on QBs this year averaging 300 yards per game are amazing. There is just no defense.

Yes, the glory days of the 1960's through the 80's are long gone and dead. The NFL is nothing but a pin-ball league, no defense, no running game, no hitting, and a flag fest in the bargain. No wonder the viewers are going elsewhere. This is not the game I grew up watching and loving. It has been ruined. -- Al

The Deacon Jones head slap was my all-time favorite NFL technique. He would pop the O-lineman a big one upside his head around the ear hole rendering him deaf and stunned. His avowed goal was to "send the quarterback to the hospital." Today they would arrest him on the field.

Mike,
It drives me crazy, I do what you do, I look for the yellow flag symbol to pop up.

I forgot to add;

With every third down catch to keep a drive going, I wait and see if it is or is not a catch.

I read somewhere this is by design, the league is actually catering to fantasy football.

Which tells me the league has their hand in the cash register, they are getting money out of it.

Zach...

Richard Sherman did an interview on that last week...
he sums it up pretty well....

Richard Sherman:
Rule tweaks helping average QBs put up HOF numbers...

SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Four weeks into the season, NFL teams are on a record-setting pace in a number of major offensive categories, including points scored, touchdowns, passing yards, completions and completion percentage.

In all of those statistical categories, the totals accumulated represent the highest through the first four weeks of a season in league history.

"This is what the league wanted," Sherman said. "They want record passing numbers. You've got an average quarterback; the average quarterback's passer rating is like 92 and that used to be Hall of Fame numbers. And now it's not Hall of Fame numbers, that's the average quarterback.

"You can't touch him. You can't tackle him. You can't hit him high, can't hit him low. You can't knock him down to the ground hard ... all that. You can't hit a receiver too high, you can't hit him low, you can't push him. You can barely press him. It's making it really difficult on teams to combat it because every rule in the book is designed to make sure you don't get them stopped."

Sherman noted that rule changes or points of emphasis geared toward roughing the passer, tackling and illegal contact have given offenses a distinct advantage with the additions to the roughing-the-passer rules the latest in a line of changes that have made life more difficult for defenders.

"They're just trying to make it impossible for guys to play defense," Sherman said. "It's an interesting league we play in."

George...
I don't get it...
how could anything cater to fantasy football...
what rule change could make fantasy football easier/better/more exciting?

you know both Jones and Kraft are heavily invested in the football betting market?

Very revealing. The AVERAGE Qb rating is 92? That's absurd. It's higher than most HoF Qb's. That is higher than such all-time greats like Unitas, Marino, Favre, Tarkington, and about even with Montana. The NFL has become a rather bad joke. -- Al
