NBA Playoffs (1 Viewer)

The NBA is suspending and fining a player for making an offensive remark while playing a video game. Wow. I'm not disagreeing that his remark was offensive but I thought the NBA promoted the First Amendment for its players? I guess just not all of them. It's only free speech when they deem it to be so. Otherwise it's straight to the Gulag. Doubleplusbad.

LeBron is now out indefinitely with an ankle injury. AD has been out for weeks. The Lakers are sliding in the West. But maybe a blessing in disguise if LeBron is back and rested for the playoffs. He has been carrying the load with AD out.

I think their starting center...
Marc Gasol is out also...
they're running on fumes...

Laker Hofer Elgin Baylor has passed away at age 86. I'll never forget those Laker teams led by Baylor and West. Now that was b-ball to watch and enjoy. RIP, Elgin. -- Al

A great player. Very much underappreciated. He had the misfortune to play in the era of the greatest dynasty in all sports history. The Boston Celtics of the 1960s won eight NBA titles in a row and 10 out of 11. Baylor lost to them about 8 times in the finals. An incredible run of futility. And then Baylor was injured and retired during the season when the Lakers finally won the championship against the Knicks.

hope the Lakers work the deal for Drummond...
Harrell is okay...
but anybody is better than Gasol...
he is a total non factor when on the floor...

If LeBron and Davis are healthy, no matte4 what their seed, you can all but give the Lakers the championship.

Lakers closed the deal with 2 time All Star Drummond this weekend...
27 years old...he was averaging 17.5 points per game and 13.5 rebounds this year with Cleveland...
that's a lot of rebounds per game...
compared to Marc Gasol's 4.8 points per game and 4 rebounds per game...
tons more fire power...rebounding and athleticism over Gasol...what a stiff Gasol is...

love to see how he plays with Lebron and Davis...whenever they get back...

So a two time all star who averages 17.5 ppg and 13.5 rebounds per game lands on the Lakers............gee, what a shock, I'm stunned, what was the "trade" btw, I heard they bought out his remaining salary and gave up jack to get him.

And people wonder why NBA ratings are in the toilet.............the Lakers are like the Germans rolling through Europe up until they were dumb enough to invade Russia......................

come on man...
one Championship in 10 years...
yea...sure...there oughta be a law...
this is rigged...

currently in 4th place in the West...
I know you don't like them...
but for real...
like the Germans rolling through Europe...
even Hitler would roll his eyes at that one...

it was an open market...
Celtics could have gone after him...or AD...or Lebron...

and that's why the ratings are in the toilet?
cause the Lakers are building a team?
come on man...

I could almost agree with Covid...social unrest...over privileged athletes...the world is upside down right now...
but the Lakers winning one championship in 10 years is the reason for lack of viewership...

give me a break please...

Says the guy looking at this through purple and gold glasses.

If the Celtics were pulling this crap you'd be outraged.

Explain to me like I'm five how "Any team could have had AD"..............HE SAID TO ANYONE AND EVERYONE WHO ASKED HE WAS GOING TO TEST FREE AGENCY AND NOT SIGN A CONTRACT, IE, HE WANTED TO PLAY FOR THE LAKERS.

You give me a break.

There is no competitive balance in the league; as in zero.

I'm sure the average NBA fan is on the edge of his seat waiting for the playoffs to start and watching the Lakers demolish one version of the Washington Generals after the other.

NBA fever; catch it!!

I would be outraged about what...a sport's franchise building a team...
outraged...hardly...that's sports...
and I bet you never outraged in the Red Auerbach era...when the Celts were stacked to the max...
piling up one Championship after another...

but if it's their hated rival...the Lakers...needing one more Championship to lead the league...
you're outraged?
it's pretty easy to read between the lines of your post about the Lakers...
I know where you're coming from...
I get it...
you're worried about number 18...
the all time record for Championships may change hands...

why do you think you can tell a guy that he can't pick his choice of teams of where he wants to go?
smart move by the Lakers and you call foul...

How come you're not complaining about Brooklyn being stacked to the max...
Durant...
Irving...
Harden...
now picking up Blake Griffin...for $700 thousand...
that's 4 out of five starters that could be a All-Star team...

for somebody who claims the NBA is a joke...
and that nobody cares or watches it...
it sure seems to garner your attention and irk...
but of course as always...lol...
the NBA is a joke right?
and you won't watch a game?

take off your green Larry Bird jersey and listen to this...
Boston was interested in Drummond...
he wasn't interested in them...
that's just tough noogies...

Drummond had other options -- the New York Knicks and Boston Celtics were among the teams reportedly interested -- but called the Lakers "just the best fit." When asked specifically about the Knicks, Drummond replied, "All I know is that I'm here now in L.A. I'm just here to win as many games as possible. I'm not really discussing that."

I’ll preface this post by stating that even as a huge Warriors fan I was against their signing of Kevin Durant, even after they won another championship with him.

I am not a fan of free agent built super teams. I think that the franchises that win by building their core via the draft are much more impressive.

I'll take another NBA championship whether it comes via draft, free agents, luck, whatever. The Lakers have lost their share of championships over the years. So if they compile a great team and steamroll their way to a title so be it. They all count.

The Lakers best championship teams were the 2009 and 2010 teams, built around their drafts and player development.

All championships might count but they don’t all look the same.

I think the best Laker teams were the ones in the mid-80s. They had a mix of players like Magic and Worthy who they drafted and free agents like Kareem. In professional sports, almost none of players on these teams are from the city where they play or have any prior connection to the local area. They are just a random group of guys. So it doesn't make much difference how they get there. Different than college sports where many of the athletes come from the surrounding geographic area. I do agree that it's great if a player can be drafted and play their entire career for one team but the reality is that day is long over for everyone.

My favorite team in NBA history is the 2015 Warriors.

4 of their 5 starters were drafted by Golden State and they absolutely dominated that season from start to finish.

I was skeptical of the issues related to competitive balance in the NBA until I saw a stat from yesterday’s games:

For the first time in NBA history 3 teams won by 40 or more points and the average margin of victory across all 8 games was close to 24 points (23.8)

The Lakers keep adding players but keep falling in the standings. The are now fifth in the western conference behind even the Nuggets. Third in their own division. Utah is seven games ahead of them. Hopefully everyone is healthy for playoffs.

they are decimated with injuries...
AD...Lebron...now Drummond...
I'm glad Schroder is back...
3-6 without them...

Drummond played a whole 14 minutes in his debut before his toenail was ripped off his big toe...
but he should be back soon as he is currently practicing...
if his toe stops bleeding he might stop the bleeding of loses for LA...
