NBA Playoffs (2 Viewers)

don't know what's going on with Gasol...
he was very unhappy after LA drafted Drummond...
as he is worried about his job.

he had been averaging under 5 points per game this year as the starting center...
last game he scored 11...
today he leads the team with 4 1/2 minutes left in the first scoring 9 points...

I never liked him cause of his low production...
so he's either either playing his heart out now to keep a job...
or the coaching staff hasn't been using him correctly in the past...

didn't watch the game...
but how could this score be right?

in Brooklyn...
Lakers with 4 starters out....Lebron...AD...Gasol...Kuzma...

broke down Lakers beat...no makeshift line up Lakers blowout Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant...
Brooklyn an 11 1/2 point favorite...

final score Lakers 126...Brooklyn 101...
had marked this one a loss for sure...
the score looks backwards...

Irving got ejected, and Harden was injured.

It was basically Durant vs. The Lakers.

Injuries and ejections are the last great equalizers in the NBA.

yea...lol...

that's a slight spin you're putting on the real story...

not sure if you read the whole article...
but Schroder...the only true starter in the Laker line up last night...
except for brand new team mate Drummond...
Schroder was ejected along with Irving at the same time...in the 3rd quarter

so it actually Durant vs. The Lakers "no name" (no starters) team that blew out Brooklyn in Brooklyn...

In some weird way, I think the Lakers are going to benefit from the injuries to AD and LeBron. Other guys are stepping up in their absence. Schroeder and Caldwell-Pope played great today. Drummond is going to be a beast. Imagine this team with a rested AD and LeBron in the playoffs.

AD is supposed to be back next week...
the last 11 Laker's games have been win...lose...win...lose...win...lose...etc...
alternating the following games with the opposite result for 11 games in a row...
at least the team without their best 2 players is holding at .500...

Watched the Celtics/Warriors game last night, Curry is just something else, what a pure shooter, he hits the most incredible shots effortlessly.

Love those Warriors uniforms, they wear several either white, yellow or blue, they all look great, they've got a black one too as an alternate version that is not bad..................I looked up the prices; holy smokes, 80.00 for a tank top? Some as high as 140.00? and I see **** tons of fans in the stands wearing them......................what a booming business sports merchandising is.

The amount of disposable income in this country is truly astounding. I don't see any collectors market where you can touch anything for less than $500. And many items go for much, much more if you even have the opportunity to buy them before they are gon. Books, toy soldiers, sports merchandise etc. You name it and it costs big time. And this in the midst of a pandemic in which they have are giving money away.

A friend of mine told me the other day sports cards are exploding right now, crazy money being spent of sports cards at the moment.

It's funny now when they show "crowds" in the stands, everyone is wearing hats, shirts, jerseys, jackets, I remember crowd shots in the 70's, 80's and the 90's to some extent and hardly anyone is wearing a team shirt, jersey, jacket or hat.

Again; big, big business.

I had a friend once who came with me to an AHL game. Afterward, they auctioned off the game worn jerseys for some charitable event. A couple dozen of them. My friend figures he might buy a couple. So we stay after the game and the bidding starts. And goes up and up for every jersey into the $1K+ range. Even for the mascot's jersey. This is in a small town AHL market and not NHL. My friend left empty handed.

Wow, that's crazy, but the dough when to charity, so it's all good.

Sounds like LeBron is nearing a return soon with the Lakers. AD is already back. Not a minute too soon as they have struggled to win games without James. The Lakers have fallen a long way in the standings but a lot of the role players have stepped up which could make them better in the playoffs.

Hard to believe but the Lakers could miss the playoffs this year. They have lost 6 of the last 7 games and are currently tied for 6th in the Western Conference. Under the NBA's complicated format this year, the 7th seed team can miss the playoffs.

ESPN:
This year, being No. 7 doesn't guarantee you a first-round playoff series. The NBA will hold a play-in tournament in which the Nos. 7 and 8 teams face off and teams seeded Nos. 9 and 10 will also play. The winner of the 7-8 game advances to the first round and the loser of the 7-8 game plays the winner of the 9-10 game to determine the final playoff berth in each conference.

I think I read the same article you did...
they are really struggling just to play mediocre ball...
Lebron (6 weeks out) and AD (9 weeks out) are back finally...
but the hole to climb out of is really deep...
Lebron may not even play tonight...
pulled out of last nights game (a loss) with 6 minutes on clock complaining of soreness in ankle...
may sit out tonight too...

That is arguably THE dumbest thing I have ever heard in any sport and that's saying something.

So under this format, you could have the #10 seed getting in while either the 8 and 9 do not.

This whole thing is designed to create interest in the fan bases of the 9 and 10 seeds, period.

No wonder why I haven't watched 12 seconds of the NBA this year.

What a truly broken sport.

I'm thinking the Lakers might not even make the playoffs this year...
with Lebron already out...
AD was pulled off the floor last night in the 1st quarter with back pain...
the Clippers routed them by 24 points...

Yes, the Lakers are in some real trouble. I've been fairly confident up to this point that they would get everyone back for the playoffs and they do have more talent than last year. But the injuries may just be too much to overcome. Even if LeBron and AD are available and healthy they won't just magically become a championship caliber team overnight. That takes chemistry and confidence. Both of which are sorely lacking at the moment. They have the horses but it may be too late to pull out of this death spiral. They are at best a .500 caliber team heading into the playoffs.
