Al- as much as I am enjoying this surprising season as you I'm plagued by the memories of all those March melt downs. :redface2: Hopefully this is a new era. :smile2: sometimes I ask myself why not just enjoy the moment? And then I remember I'm a Terp fan. ^&grin. Chris
Amen, brother. Truer words were never spoken. I was never able to enjoy the championship run as much as I should have as I kept expecting the inevitable collapse to occur. It all started with that heartbreaking 1974 UMd v NCS OT game. -- Al

Terps beat Rutgers by 10. :smile2: And UK wins over Georgia to go 30-0. :smile2: :smile2: Chris

Great weekend of bball already! UofL beats #2 Virginia, and that after dismissing their 3rd best player from the team.

UNC loses at home to Duke. Saw they had 15 turnovers late in the game, and had another 3-4 after that. Can't beat Duke if you don't take care of the ball.

And of course, UK is now 31-0! GO CATS!! :smile2:

Now, if MD takes care of business tonight, it will be the perfect ending. GO TERPS!!

BTW, MD has a commit from a top JUCO PG, Jaylen Brantley. He'll be needed to fill in for Trimble next yr. Only problem, he's 5'10". :rolleyes2: Chris

If UMd can beat Nebraska tonight, they will be sitting pretty to move up as the #8 and 9 teams have lost. Kanetuck has been really impressive. Don't see anyone stopping them. -- Al

Thanks Al. Forgot to mention Mark Turgeon is one of 15 semi-finalists for the Naismith Coach of the Year award. He's also a finalist, along with the Wisconsin coach, for Big 10 coach of the yr. And since MD beat WI.... :smile2: Chris

Double wins for Maryland Bball. ^&grin First, women go undefeated in regular season, AND win the conference tournament!
Men win season final in closely fought game. A foul fest thanks to the refs.
Congrats to both squads in their inaugural Big 10 seasons.
GO TERPS!!! Chris

No way would I have predicted the Terps having such a great season, and especially being a Top 10 team this late in the season. Just a remarkable achievement for Turgeon and the players. In the back of my mind I will always wonder what they could have done in the ACC this year. I think they would have done real well. My congratulations to the men and women for a fantastic rookie season in the Big 10. Now for the Big 10 tourney and then the Big Dance. -- Al

Terps moved up to #8 in both the AP and the USA Coaches Poll. Terps #8 in the nation. Never would have thought it possible prior to the season. Congratulations Coach Turgeon. -- Al

Great to see Al. They were picked to be a Big Ten cellar team in the pre-season. :smile2: Chris

Solid win in the big 10 tourney for Terps tonite, but my Virginia loses to the Heels 😞...Sammy
It was a good win for UMd, some good defense and Wells came up big in the last 60 seconds at the foul line and especially with 2 crucial defensive rebounds. UVa made a tremendous run at UNC after almost being left for dead halfway through the second half. UNC got lucky. -- Al

Well, all good things must end and so endeth the UMd run. Started out like gangbusters (a sure sign of impending disaster) by leaping to a 12-1 and then a 23-7 lead over MSU. Trimble had 13 of the Terps first 23 points and then it all went down the tubes. Trimble was a non-factor from then until the final 16 seconds. UMd was outscored 55-35 from that 23-7 lead, for a final score of 62-58, MSU. The Terps were simply dominated the entire second half. So much for the Big 10, it was a great season for UMd. Now, on to the Big Dance! -- Al

Not going to win if Trimble AND Wells don't have a great game. No big man to go to under the basket. That finally caught up to the Terps yesterday. Chris

That hits the nail square on the head. Wells never got going and Trimble went MIA for 2/3 of the game. Just bad timing but it had to happen eventually. UMd needs to develop those two big guys so that they can become factors. On the other hand, Kanetuck seems to have Rkansas in hand, leading by 12 with 8:23 left.:wink2: -- Al

The Terps get a good seed at #4 but get Valpraiso to open, that team is always tough in the tourney, my Wildcats of Arizona look to be in a good West Bracket that they should advance to the final 4, but we all know that anything happens during March madness...Sammy

Unfortunately for the Terps, if they get to the Sweet 16 they will probably be facing off against Kentucky. But first Valpariaso and then Buffalo or WVa. I don't expect any of the games to be very easy. -- Al

Al/Chris:

No matter what happens in the tournament Maryland is clearly a program on the rise. Re-building in college basketball is one of the most difficult tasks out there (just ask North Carolina) yet the Terps seem well on their way to not only being competitive in the Big 10 but a legitimate threat to win that conference year after year.

Jason, after a backwards step in 2014 and then losing 5 players to transfer in the ensuing off-season, I had very low expectations for the Terps and all sorts of doubts about the direction of the program under Turgeon, not to mention the controversial move to the Big 10. I actually expected a disaster of a season. Boy was I wrong. I have been very impressed by the Terps this year and very pleased by their performance in the Big 10. I really hope they can make a tournament run but even if they don't, it has been a very exciting and wildly successful year for the Terps. I've said it before but I congratulate Turgeon and what he has achieved. -- Al

March Madness kicked off in fine style. Thursday's 16 games were pretty wild, with 5 of them decided by 1 point and 4 others decided by 4 or fewer points. There were also 4 pure blowouts. By seeding, there were 4 upsets. I will be watching to see if UMd can get by a dangerous Valparaiso team today. -- Al
