Terps were up by as much as 40 in second half against hapless Rutgers. And that with Maryland's best player, Melo Tremble, on the bench most of the game with a hamstring injury. A 9-7 Wisconsin team is up next. Chris

Wisconsin could present a challenge to UMD. I don't think they don't have the athleticism of the Terps, therefore they will probably go with a slow tempo, power type of game.

I think it will be worth watching as the game is on ESPN.

Definitely will be watching PA. Chris

Chris, I'm embarrassed. Got distracted and completely forgot about last night's game. Didn't remember it until I read this mornings sports page. Chagrined that I missed a fine performance and a game where I wouldn't have gotten a headache while watching.:wink2: -- Al

Al, it was so one sided, Rutgers had no one at the lane to rebound while shooting free throws. They completely conceded the rebounds and had everyone back on defense. Don't think I'd seen that before for practically the whole game (you see that at the end of a game but not the entire game). Chris

It figures I'd miss the cakewalk game.:rolleyes2: I will be watching the Wisconsin game on Saturday at 1pm on ESPN, with my bottle of aspirin.:wink2: -- Al

Tomorrow I head to Minneapolis for the EPIC Minnesota - Northwestern game (with the winner staying out of the cellar...). If we can pull it out we'll be 2-2...a start anyway.

Well, no point in waiting to win the game on the last shot, eh Maryland?:rolleyes2: At least I didn't pop a blood vessel or turn the air blue, this time. Managed to stay calm waiting for the inevitable choke, which didn't come, this time. A win is a win, someone once said.:wink2: Trimble is special. -- Al

I always thought the Terps would pull it out, but didn't think it would be this close. Win due to Carter, 14 pts, Stone, and of course Tremble with 21. Wisc 5-11 (second half?) FT shooting helped. Terps, 15-1, off to best start in school history. :smile2:

Watched almost all of Terp and UK games and am partisan to both teams. Lots of discussion as to who is best PG, Tremble or Ulis. I thought Tremble better by a hair before this game and thought him definitely better before the game winning shot. Better to the basket and also with assists.

Al, who's best PG in Terps history? Always liked the Big H and of course John Lucas. Have to go with Tremble at this point, even over Steve Blake.

Chris, same options I would have picked. Lucas or Tremble. I want to see how far Trimble will take this team.:wink2: -- Al

Great game and despite Wisconsin's record it is an important win for UMD.

The Big 10 is loaded with talented teams and every win against a conference opponent is huge.

Would also add for consideration several other names from the past such as Brad Davis (74-77). He was really good. Walt Williams (88-92). He could do it all, handle the ball and shoot. Keith Gatlin (83-88) Another one who could do whatever was required. Jeff Adkins (81-85). Good man with the ball. All good point guards or a combination of point/shooting guards. -- Al

I recognize those names as great players Al but I was living outside of Maryland during those yrs and it was pre-internet and ESPN. So I couldn't follow them other than stat sheets. One thing I have to consider is contributions beyond stats. Who got the team the farthest? So Steve Blake rises above the crowd in that regards. Always liked Howard White because he ushered in the Terps as we know them today.

The stars are in alignment for MD this yr. Hope they go deep and not have one of their March melt downs (need a "praying" icon here)!
Chris

Good win for the Northwestern yesterday! I don't know if it was as much them playing well or that the Gophers are TERRIBLE! It was hard to watch them.

Holiday Intern: Which team are we playing today?
Scoreboard operator: The Wildcats
Holiday Intern: This logo looks like a cat…let’s use it.
Scoreboard operator: Close enough!

Congrats on the win Pete. All wins are good. :smile2:

Richard Petino got the head coaching job because, in part, of the family name (much like Bobby Knight and Eddie Sutton's sons). Will be interesting to see how long he stays. Chris

Blake is a very good court general, as his NCAA title and his long NBA career prove. Blake and Dixon are UMd royalty. Hard to pick against him.:wink2: -- Al

Unless he can find lightning in a bottle I think his days here may be short. It's one of the first times that I've heard this of a B1G 10 team "Northwestern was just physically superior to Minnesota." We usually win on guile and teamwork. It's kinda fun to overmatch someone!

Of course, we have a young Collins on our bench, but he can coach AND recruit!

Md in a tough game with Michigan. Turn over city again for the Terps. Chris

MD loses by 3 to Mich, whose best player is on the bench whole game due to injury. MD's best player, Tremble might as well have sat out this one as well. To quote Dick Vitale, who I can't stand but is appropriate in this case, "he looked very average tonight." Nickens and Saulaiman had subpar performances as well. Layman, Stone and Carter had good games. Too many turnovers, poor 3 pt shooting and not getting to the foul line were key elements. Had a look to shoot a 3 to tie it up at the end of the game but Saulaiman missed it.
Terps are going to have to play better in the tournament. :rolleyes2: Chris

Some fine games by Layman, Stone, and Carter, but if the engine (Trimble) doesn't hit on all cylinders, the Terps are very beatable. An off-game is bound to happen every now and then, so I hope Trimble got it out of his system. Where did I put my aspirin bottle... -- Al

A mixed weekend for me. MD wins 100-65 over Ohio St. :smile2: I think MD had two previous losses to the Buckeyes, so the win is payback. :wink2: Melo had no points in first half but Carter and Salauimon (I know I misspelled that) have big games.
UK has a bad loss to Auburn, who were like 7-8 and 1-3 coming into this game. UK blows a 12 pt lead to lose by 5. :redface2: Big men trouble of the Cats. Labissiere (another misspelling), who was supposed to be a #1 or #2 NBA pick has limited minutes as he is more like a Div 2 player.
