The Terps are just driving me nuts. They find a way to make every game harder than it needs to be. If they don't improve the inside game and especially the rebounding, there are going to be more disappointments. Oh well. -- Al

No support from the team. Stone, one FG, Carter, Layman, and Nikens MIA. Early exit from tournament with efforts like this. Glad to see Trimble come back with a good game. Chris

Al/Chris:

If UMD had selected better shots and been more patient on offense in the first half (like they did in the second half) they would have run away with the game.

Jason,
I think UMd needs to work the ball inside a lot more. They have excellent forwards that need to get engaged in both the offensive and defensive flow of the game on a full time basis instead of once in a while. The long range 3-pointers are the glory shots but the inside game wins. Right now the team is just leaving Trimble to do it all. That won't be enough in the long run. Get those 3 big guys engaged and I really believe UMd will start running away with games, ala the OSU game. -- Al

Jason, you hit it perfectly! Bad shot selection and horrible rebounding were the main causes. Diamond Stone only had one FG the whole game! :rolleyes2: We can't win without Layman, Saulaiman and Nikens doing their parts. We're looking very average right now. MD was showing as a second seed. Will need a better second half of the season to get that. Chris

MD only drops one place after the loss, to 8th in the polls. Lucky for that. Chris

Al:

That is fair. They lost to one of the best teams in the nation, and in my opinion they are still one of the top eight teams in college basketball.

Jason, I thought losing to a team that had just lost 3 straight would have dropped the Terps a bit farther. I think the next 3 games will tell a lot regarding the Terps. Hope they fix the problems with rebounding and the inside game. Chris

Okay guys, MD vs Iowa tonight. Up the Terps bring their A game. Chris

Sorry boys...I grew up in Iowa...

Go Hawks!!

I don't know what deal with the devil they signed, but both football and basketball came out of nowhere this year to be relevant!

Chris, article on the front page of the sports section in the Wash. Post this AM stating that the Terps need to address the rebounding. Duh. Hope to be able to watch the game tonight, but have to buy more aspirin and practice my controlled breathing before tuning in.:rolleyes2: In the best tradition of being a Terps fan, I hope for the best and expect the worst. Go Terps!^&grin -- Al

Where's that dislike vote icon? :smile2: Go TERPS!!! Chris

Did someone kidnap the real Terps team at halftime? 12 minutes into the 2nd half and they've scored 8 whole points and trail by 1. What a terrible performance. -- Al

Dodged a bullet. Terps need to lose the fascination with the 3-point shot and work the ball in. UMd was 0-10 from 3-point land in the 2nd half. A win is a win, but the Terps sure make it tough. Scored 25 in the last 8 minutes, otherwise... -- Al

We held on. Poor shooting again by Nikens and Layman. Trimble only added points late in the game with FTs. Not a good game from Melo. Carter and Saulaiman carried them. Bad shooting and turnovers by Iowa helped. We need better and more consistent effort than this to make a deep run in March. Chris

Terps are 4-2 over their last 6 games but could just as easily be 1-5. They aren't playing well or consistently. They have been shooting poorly, are sloppy with the ball, and rebounding badly. This is not going to cut it if they want to make a run in the tournament. It may seem odd to criticize an 18-3 team this severely, but they simply aren't playing up to their talent level. Don't know if it's a chemistry problem or a coaching problem but the same errors and weaknesses continue to show game after game. Leave the long shots to Tremble and Sulaimon and let Layman, Stone, and Carter take the game inside. Layman, in particular, needs to quit shooting from 3-point range. -- Al

If they are going to make a run in the tournament they are going to need to play to their strengths within the team structure. When they do, they are easily a top 5 team, when they don't they can lose to anyone.

Deja Vu post. Terps were looking good at OSU, up 37-31 at the half and playing well in all parts of the game. Another 2nd half disaster in the opening 13 minutes, again. Have only scored 11 points and are now in a dogfight, trailing by 1, and not playing well in any aspect of the game. Day/night performance. Did someone kidnap the real Terps at the half? What is Turgeon doing to this team at the break? -- Al
