Chris, Trimble's game has all but fallen off a cliff over the past several games. I wonder if he is starting to wilt from the pressure or if he is just plain tired. His shooting is actually hurting the team and even his ball handling has been suspect at times with some sloppy passing or just not protecting the ball properly. Nikens has been useless and every game it seems 1 or 2 of the starters disappears for large portions of the game. Carter, in particular, needs to be involved on every possession. He is too good to have only 4 shots and 4 points late in a game like yesterday. Turgeon needs to figure it out or it's going to be a year of wasted talent and lost possibilities. -- Al

And now they suspended Stone for one game as a result of his flagrant foul.

UMd fell to #6 this week, but considering the ugly loss to Wisconsin and the worthless win over a D-II opponent, they are lucky the fall wasn't further. :rolleyes2: -- Al

I heard #2, 3, and 5 lost last night. Now, if the Terps can beat mighty Minnesota they can re-claim some lost ground. :rolleyes2: Chris

Yes, it was a good night for the Terps, as the AP #3,4,5, all lost. With UMd at #6 in the AP, this has to help them if they can get back on track. Typical Duke/NC game. Iowa and OKU both lost to unranked teams. -- Al

Losing 40-29 to Minnesota at the half, a team with 6 whole wins. Are you kidding me? Might be time to fire Turgeon.:rolleyes2::mad: Is this team just a bunch of pretenders? This is disgraceful. -- Al

I just turned off the game. Down by 10 in second half with back to back turnovers to a team that is 0-13 in conference is just obscene. I have no expectations left for this team. Chris

Unfortunately, this team struggles against just about everyone. Once again, poor shooting, no help off the bench, and Trimble with another sub-average night. Problems everywhere. Terps have closed to 54-50, with the ball and 7:50 left. Chris, at least UK won. -- Al

UMd made Minnesota's season tonight. Ironically, it was the Terps best player, Trimble, that cost them the game with a poor shot and 2 turnovers in the last minute. What a disaster this game was. -- Al

Sorry Al, (and you know I love my Terps) but this team has been over ranked all year, no doubt a top 20 but no way a top 5, to inconsistent, lack the rebounding edge in most big games, but they have a great record and I'm still in hopes they work the kinks out before the tourney starts but if a team is still fixing kinks this late in the season it doesn't bode well for them come March...Sammy

Sammy/Al:

It is not just UMD, 5 of the current top 10 teams have lost in the last 4 days. No one has been consistent this year, I have never seen anything like it. There will not be a true, outright favorite to win the tournament. Essentially UMD could win it all or they could lose in the first round and neither result would be a surprise.

After 46 yrs I've had enough. I don't see the Terps going .500 the rest of the season. This "team" has completely imploded. I give them credit though, they had fooled everyone for a while. I wish them well.

As AL mentioned, time to turn my undivided attention the UK Wildcats. :smile2:

Sammy and Jason hit the nail on the head. UMd too inconsistent and can't get it's act together and it will be a wide open tourney. Sammy, I've been waiting all year to see the Terps fix their problems but there seems to be no hope this will happen. I seriously wonder if Turgeon has control of the team. At the very least it seems the team does what it wants. Somewhere, this team has forgotten how to rebound and shoot, a deadly combination.
As Chris says, we are long time alumni fans and the frustration with this team is boiling over. I wish, at times, that I had another team to follow but I'm stuck following these frauds. One thing for sure, last night's game cured me of watching the games on TV and I will now follow only the box score on the computer, so that only the score indicates they are losing and I don't witness the same problems game after game. -- Al

Don't give up on our Terps yet Chris, Al, they have played some great ball in between some bad ball, let's just hope the great play returns and returns in a hurry!!!!! :)...Sammy

One thing I have noticed about UMD is that they tend to play to their competition, they bring their "A" game against teams like Michigan State and their "C" game to games against teams like Minnesota. Their is plenty of time to fix that through coaching and team leaders and the Big 10 Tournament is a good place to start.

Jason, you are quite correct. UMd has played to their competition all season, but is is a risky way to play. The coaching is the key but I have no confidence that Turgeon is the man to do it as the same problems have existed all season, appearing in every game they play. If Turgeon was capable of fixing the problems, he should have done so by now. UMd has had some seriously talented teams over the years, but this one is one of the best and it is a sure tragedy that the potential is not being lived up to. As any truly addicted fan, I will continue to believe that they will get it together and go on a run, but always prepared for the inevitable disappointment. -- Al

Al:

Excellent post. It is worth noting that UMD is not the only team with the problem of playing down/up to the competition. That may be one of the key reasons that there is no clear cut favorite to win it all.

Terps beat Michigan, again nothing pretty but right now any and I mean ANY win is better then a loss, hoping these tight games pay off during the tourney even though I wish the Terps could win a big game with a blow out once in awhile...Sammy

Sammy, the Terps pulled their usual stuff and blew a 16 point 1st half lead. They make watching hard. But the win is nice. -- Al

This year is going to be one of the worst NBA drafts in recent memory; basically, any pick after the top 5 will be a crapshoot, no clear cut superstar coming out.

The worst thing college basketball ever did was to allow underage kids to be drafted, going back to high school.

They stopped the high school thing and said kids had to go to college; for a whopping one year, then they are draft eligible.

Moronic on a number of levels.

If kids were required to stay four years, you'd have better teams, better games, better NBA ready players; the sport is suffering as a result.

I wouldn't want to be a college coach; you get a blue chip prospect under the thought that in one year, he's probably gone.

No thanks to that.
