Chris, congratulations on the Wildcat's win. It was a championship game worthy of the name. :salute:: -- Al
Thanks Al and George. That game was a nail biter down to the end of OT! Both teams played a great game.
BTW, that was a terrible no call at the buzzer shot by Maryland vs MSU. {eek3} Izzo about collapsed when he saw the foul made on the Maryland shooter from beyond mid-court. Three made FTs would have tied the game. Even the announcers said it was an obvious foul. Part of the MD curse I guess.
GO WILDCATS!
Chris
Sorry for hijacking your thread..................ok, back to Maryland basketball............................
I watched that loss. I remember the long ago teams with the Talent brothers. Still keep the occasional eye on GW. -- Al^&grin ^&grin
Well, as usual my team, George Washington, stank when it came to the A 10 conference championship and cost themselves a bid. Maybe NIT

Great memories, Brad. I specifically remember Pat Tallent as being a very good shooting guard. Terrific player and fun times for area b-ball. I was at UMd when we played GW on a yearly basis and remember seeing Pat play. UMd always seemed to win the game but those were the years that UMd had tremendously good teams and just outmanned GW. Maybe we were at some of the same games.:wink2: -- AlAl, I was there at GW when those guys were there. Now, that was a good team. The games were held at Fort Myers at a gym that was a hellhole. We'd get up close to the refs and scream in their ears. There was one guy we called "Red" who was vicious; he'd stand not more than 10 feet away from the refs calling them every name in the book. We loved Red. I remember once we almost beat Syracuse. I still remember that loss, a crusher.
At the time, the NCAA has promised GW, Georgetown, W Va and some other school I can't remembe that they would take one in the NCAAs and the tournament was held in Morgantown. Four of us piled into a car, found some dump of a motel and had a great time. I think all the time we were there we ate at Hardees or McDonalds or something; it was like injecting fat into your veins morning, noon and night.
Unfortunately, Georgetown won the tournament and the rest is history. We consoled ourselves with what was supposed to be local moonshine. When we bought it, some old guy told us to watch out, "that'll put hair on your chest." Remember those days like they were yesterday.
Northwestern...STILL the only major college school to never make it into the NCAA. The streak lives!
I have my suspicions that the curse will be broken in the next couple years, but that must mean it's time for a major injury or transfer...
Sammy, according to the announcers, it was only Yale's 4th all-time appearance in the tourney, and their first win. It was a good game. -- AlSome early upsets..didn't see Yale winning, when was the last time in the tourney?? I think they were still using crab baskets for rims!!! and Duke had to really sweat it out in their game until the end to grab a win, love the madness of march!!...Sammy
Terps should be thanking whatever basketball god they pray to after today's very lucky win. Terps blew an 18 point 2nd half lead and SDS had the last possession with a chance to tie and force OT. Terps played decent defense and SDS lost the ball without a chance to shoot, sealing the Terp win. This team keeps trying to throw away their games. Turgeon, once again, pulled his hottest starters late in the game and SDS took advantage of their absence to close to striking distance. Turgeon put the starters back in but it was a fight to the finish. Terps lucked out. Beaten on the offensive boards, again, and plenty of turnovers, again, I don't expect luck to bail them out again. -- AlTerps keep threatening to put SDS away but every time they seem about to finish SDS, the Terps commit turnovers, take bad shots, and forget to cover the 3, and SDS thus continues to hang in. Terps lead 64-51 with 7 minutes left but the lead should be 20+. -- Al
