Oklahoma loses to Texas today.

Just awesome; 25th ranked Texas pulls the upset.

Texas has OU's number, winning the Red River Showdown and now this.

At this point, throw 64 names in a hat and pull one out; whoever it is, you might as well bet the house they'll win the tournament.

Today, what four top ten teams are going to lose?

What a watered down product..........................if nothing else, I can't imagine what some peoples brackets are going to look like.

UMd playing like poop against Purdue so far. Down 24-10 with 11:44 remaining in the 1st half, the really stunning stat is Purdue's rebounding edge at 11-1. That's right, the Terps have 1 official rebound to this point, with the result Purdue has a 12-0 edge in 2nd chance points. -- Al

UMd gets it's act together, a little, and trails 44-39 at the half but the rebound effort by the Terps is awful. Purdue has an overall 21-9 lead on the boards and a 10-4 edge on the offensive boards. Rebounding is a basic b-ball skill. Maybe Turgeon needs to emphasize it a bit more.:rolleyes2: -- Al

Terps stunk their way to another loss, 83-79, and the culprit, once again, is an almost complete inability to execute basic basketball, ie., rebounding. They were outrebounded 41-22 overall and 19-9 on the offensive boards. With the height this team has, this is inexcusable. Turgeon simply isn't doing his job as coach. What a waste of talent. It's like nobody on the team has ever heard of following your shot, blocking out, crashing the boards, and this all comes back to the coach. Next. -- Al

Yeeeep...you said it all Al, if this team doesn't pull it together I'm not sure it will get out of the second round of the tournament come March as they have regressed more and more each week...Sammy

But hey, look on the bright side, when they were down 10 with about 3 minutes left, they did a brilliant job of running that Hickory High School trap defense crap and Purdue soiled themselves, unable to break the trap, turning the ball over numerous times and letting Maryland back into the game, so they've got that going for them, which will come in handy come tournament time...................this team won't win the conference regular season title or the phony baloney post season tournament most conferences have (why you need to have a tournament after someone wins the conference is beyond me; 9 times out of 10, the conference winner loses the first game in the conference tournament, while the 7th or 8th place finisher goes on a miracle run and wins the post season tournament and gets an automatic bid, which is nonsense, but that's the NCAA for you), but they'll make the tournament anyway as a top 25 team.................

Hate to beat a dead horse, but Villanova lost yesterday, they're the 7th #1 ranked team to lose this year.

Eight of the top ten teams lost actually, this is really pathetic.

As far as the tournament this year; there are no cinderellas as in order for there to be any, the premise is there are goliaths in the field for them to slay and there aren't any, as in none this year.

Seriously; any one of the current top 25 teams could win this thing, it's really a joke.

The NCAA needs to change the rule and make players stay in school for two years instead of one; college coaches must be tearing their hair out, imagine having to recruit a new team virtually every year.

What a clownshow.

I don't think coaches are "tearing their hair out," as you said because they're recruited on the basis you'll only stay for a year and then leave if you want to. The coaches know the score.

Under NBA rules, a player is eligible for the draft one year after they've finished high school. That is why you have these one and dones.

Look no further than Kentucky; the team they had last year if they had stayed together would have won two, maybe three titles, but they were gutted by the draft last year and now they are ranked what, 16th?

Imagine landing a couple of blue chip recruits knowing you get them for one year; you don't think coaches find that maddening?

As a fan of the game, it's idiotic, moronic and leads to watered down talent and mediocre teams like they have this year.

Not to mention do you really think a 19 year old is anymore ready to play in the NBA than an 18 year old.

The NCAA are a pack of morons, sorry you don't it that way.

Ray Charles could see it.

The Terps have seemed to realize if you play defense and rebound you can win games!! :) putting an ol fashion whippn on Illinois right now, hopefully a sign of a good March Madness run...Sammy

They looked good tonight but it needs to be a regular performance if they are going to go anywhere in the tourney. Trimble looked sharp for the first time in a while. -- Al

Al:

Agreed on all counts. They really need to find some consistency from their stars going into the tournament.

Somebody should have told Boston College that when it joined the ACC, they had better know how to play basketball. BC wrapped up the first 0-19 season in men's ACC b-ball history today with a loss in the first round of the ACC tourney. What a joke.:rolleyes2: -- Al

The Terps peeked at #2 in the country at 22-3, with a meaningless win over Bowie State. From the point of that useless game, right in the middle of their Big 10 schedule, the Terps have gone 2-4 to land at their current #18 standing. I sure hope they can get some dignity back with a run in the Big 10 tourney. Since opening the season at 15-1, the Terps have gone a very mediocre 9-6 to 'achieve' their current 24-7 standing. Not bad, but it will be ultimately disappointing if they can't get their act together in the post-season. -- Al

BC also lost every single conference game that they played in football this past year.

Thank goodness for hockey.

:)

I don't think anyone in the old ACC knows what hockey is. Could be BC's foot in the door. How about lacrosse? Does BC play that?^&grin -- Al

So, my wife and I are watching the UMd-Nebraska game and the Terps are kicking Nebraska all over the court with UMD leading 54-37 at the half, and my wife says, "Why are you always yelling about how bad the Terps play? They look pretty good to me." So I tell her it is only half way through the game and this team tends to 'disappear' at some point in every game. We'll see how things go in the second half. Sure enough, the Terps came out of the halftime still playing great ball, stretched the lead to 24 points and looked ready to bury Nebraska by 30/40 points. Then Houdini did his disappearing act for the audience, the Terps went to sleep, and BOOM!, the Terps lead is down to 6 points with 2 minutes left in the game. Turgeon had taken his big stars, Trimble and Layman, out of the game to save them for the next game, and he is forced to put them back in to try and save the Terps from disgrace. They did, barely, as the Terps finished with a 97-86 win, but not before getting defensively embarrassed by blowing a huge lead and having to scramble at the end of the game. UMd should have won by 30, but, as has been their pattern all season, their inconsistency almost led to disaster. Terps have to play #2 Michigan State today and I think the Terps will be lucky to lose by less than 20 points. :rolleyes2: -- Al

In what turned into a very close battle, and a tremendous defensive struggle over the last 10 minutes, the Terps lost to Michigan State 64-61. The Terps did a tremendous job on defense but couldn't get it done on offense, scoring only 1 FG over the last 9 1/2 minutes. Still, MSU wasn't much better and just outlasted the Terps. Nice job by both teams and the Terps played much better than I expected. -- Al

Don't mean to talk about a team other than Maryland in this thread................:wink2:, but the Kentucky/Texas A & M game for the SEC Championship is unreal so far, back and forth all game long, KU up by 3 right now after back to back steals.

KU got screwed in an earlier match up with team thanks to a bogus technical foul and it cost them the regular season conference championship, make that wrong a right today fellas........................

It's been a good one and now it is in OT. Go Kanetuck! -- Al
