NCAA Basketball (4 Viewers)

They held the championship last night and a game almost broke out, but fortunately the refs and their whistles were able to prevent anything like a flow to the contest.:rolleyes2: They called 44 total fouls, and that included one of those idiotic 'flagrant' fouls. Looked like 2 guys fighting for the ball to me. I saw no evidence of a deliberate attempt to hurt anyone. Anyway, congrats to UNC, I guess. -- Al

Al:

That game was difficult to watch. Fortunately the games that led up to the championship were great.

And speaking of refs, is traveling still illegal? I don't think I have ever watched so many games where players got away with blatant travels.

That was, BY FAR, THE WORST NCAA mens basketball final game I can ever recall watching.

Congrats NCAA, you're ruined what used to be a good sport by allowing any kid who's halfway decent to go to college for a year, play basketball, never open a book, then go strait to the NBA.

Someone needs to explain to me how it's any better taking away a kids ability to be drafted right out of high school by replacing it with making him go to college for one whole year.

What a nightmare it must be for a college coach to have to constantly restock his roster year after year.

And yeah, I get it; who would deny a kid a chance to make millions in the NBA, it's their right, they can do what they want, blah, blah, blah.

How about if a kid gets a full boat at a school to play a sport and he stays four years, honors his commitment to the school, graduates with a degree and THEN goes on to the NBA.........................what's so bad about that?

That was a pretty dismal game to watch. Almost as bad as Butler scoring 41 points in the 2011 game. That was down right painful. I kept watching to see if it would get better. It did not.:redface2: Chris

A much different world George then when we grew up, majority of kids today that are really talented know that the college world is a one year maybe two year stop & go store, we as guardians, parents, have to be mostly to blame for the early departures, get your house on MTV Cribs, how bout 24/7 round the clock exposure on ESPN for that slam dunk, and of course all those million dollar contracts!!! as Dire Straits sing it.."Money for nothing, chicks for free'!!!

It was so bad it almost made me forget about the Butler performance.

No, it was not the most beautiful game ever played, but it was not nearly as bad as that Butler game a few years back. They had just over half the shooting percentage the Tar Heels had. Regardless, it ended up a beautiful night for us Tar Heels, thanks to great defense and a run at the end. I went to the Dean Dome last night to see the celebration of the championship. It was hard to take the end of the game last year, especially knowing Brice Johnson and Marcus Paige were leaving. I thought this team would have a big drop off, so to see them return and win it all this year made everything so much better. If only Wisconsin could have beaten Florida in overtime and advanced farther. They are my other alma mater. Needless to say, having Duke beat Wisconsin two years ago, gave me two horrible finishes in a row. Wisconsin has become a real giant killer though, knocking off undefeated UK two years ago and this year Villanova.

Congrats on the win. Williams is in an elite club with 3 championships. Chris

Rick Pitino, HOF U of Louisville coach, placed on unpaid leave over another bball scandal involving the Cardinals. AD Jurich is also gone. The amazing thing is the university was in the appeals process for the previous scandal of strippers/prostitutes in the athletic dorm. They were involved in the Adidas recruit bribery operation at the same time. They may lose their national championship. How dumb! Chris

I hope the Feds clean up the whole mess, although I have my doubts. I'm sure the same thing is taking place in college football. From the DOJ announcement, it didn't seem that any charges have been brought against Adidas, yet. I wonder if the German authorities are developing a case. I'm sure Germany must have anti corruption laws similar to our Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA). Had a US company or one of their foreign affiliates done in a foreign country what Adidas appears to have done in the US, they would be in serious trouble.

I wonder if VW was penalized for their air pollution scandal? Chris

Yes, they were. They were sued by the EU and they paid almost $15 bill to the EPA. However, this is not just fraud but making payments to universities, some of whom may be public institutions.

Someone told me, although I have not yet read the report, that UNC rec'd NO penalties from the NCAA for the academic fraud that went on for yrs. :rolleyes2: As expected, but they would have fried any other school except Duke. A massive academic scam and not even probation. What double standard? {eek3} Chris

They were not punished because the fake classes were available to all students, not just athletes.

I know what the logic was and I stand by my statement. Only two schools get away with what they did. Chris
