UCLA beats UK by 8 in New Orleans. They were favored by 7.

During the post game interview, John Calipari talked briefly about taking his team to the D Day museum. They were only there for an hour and he discussed the D Day landings, Battle of Bulge, etc. He asked them what they knew and said they mentioned "the airmen." I interpret that to mean the Tuskegee airmen. That's practically the only thing they know about the most significant time in that century. I give Cal credit for spending what time they did. Maybe they learned something more about that critical time.

Strikes me a bit sad. Chris

My pool picks are off to a resounding non-start. Currently sitting 39th (out of 80+).

You have a lot of company Brad. Could anyone pick Buffalo or UMBC? Of course we UK fans are relieved to not have to face Arizona or Virginia. Or are we?:redface2: UMBC was red hot last night. Chris

Virginia was a shocker -- first time ever to lose to a 16 seed. I'm not surprised Arizona lost; they always seem to struggle in the tournament. The interesting thing about both games was that they weren't even close.

Tied at half time I think and then UMBC ran away with it in second half, 53 points! Chris

Hey Al, since UMBC is the instant Cinderella, can we claim victory if they win it all as they are part of the UM system?^&grin Chris

I believe so. At any rate, I now have a rooting interest in this year's tourney. It was an incredible win for UMBC. Thing is, the few times I watched UVa this season, I had been unimpressed and thought them soft, so I was not all that shocked at the loss, more the totality of it than the loss itself. A great win for UMBC. ^&grin -- Al

As Charles Barkley said after the game, "the game has changed and no team can win it all by scoring only 50 points a game, not with today's 3 point shooting (or words to that effect)." I think that's why UVA has come up short in the past few seasons, style of play. I was surprised they did so well in the ACC this yr. So like you, I was not shocked but was surprised by the second half blowout.

Some commentators going a bit overboard with comparisons, such as The Miracle On Ice. That's a little absurd IMO. They did not beat an NBA/professional team, as was the case in the Olympics, nor win a championship. Still, a great historical win. Chris

First Chaminade, now UMBC?

The two biggest upset losses in the history of the NCAA basketball belong to UVA.

I forgot Chaminade.

UK rolled over Buffalo yesterday, as did Villanova and Duke in their games. The upset surge has ended except for UMBC. A UMBC - UK matchup would be interesting but leaves me a little uneasy. Chris

North Carolina down by 23 to Texas A&M with one minute to go. ^&grin A 2 seed gone. Chris

I've gotten blasted in my picks.

Here's hoping UMBC pulls off another one. I'm sure everybody (except in Kansas) is pulling for them.

Clemson is really taking Auburn to the woodshed, up by 38 with 7:38 to go. -- Al

And number 2 Cincinnati goes down. I've never seen a tournament lik e this before. Chris

Yep. Lower seeds have won 4 of the 5 finals today and two others are right in the current games. -- Al

UMBC goes down. They are only mortals after all. Looked very poor tonight. Chris

Wow, UNC said "No Mas!"

Villanova looking real good right now.

At least the Gatas and Free Shoes are out.

A few close games and a lot of blowouts. Can't get a handle on it this year. -- Al

What a brutal day for the higher seeds. Xavier (1), Cincinnati (2), North Carolina (2) and Michigan State (3) all lost.

Watch out for Kentucky now that Southern bracket has been thinned out.
