and the only touchdown was scored by Washington's defense!

A sorry spectacle for the PAC. Small crowd. The biggest crowd reaction of the night was the post game booing of the PAC commissioner Scott who has destroyed the conference with his incompetence.

What the heck was Georgia thinking? Tie game, ball at midfield, a little over 2 minutes to play, and they fake a punt? They gave the ball to Bama at midfield. What a major brain malfunction. Bama now has the lead for the first time with 1:04 to go. Boy, did Georgia ever throw this game away. Too bad because they completely outplayed Bama for 58 minutes of this game. Wow. -- Al

Georgia loses two games this year.

One thanks to a fake FG.

One thanks to a fake punt.

No words.

So happy for Hurts, that kid could have transferred, but he stayed on and now he's a Bama legend forever.

A real shame about Georgia; in truth, it should be Bama, Clemson, ND and Georgia...…….I'm a Sooners fan, but Georgia clearly is the better team.

It's not over yet, tOSU might worm their way in somehow.

If they do...……………………...:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad

I think it was a bold move that didn’t work; I would have liked to see a pass play or something more imaginative. The game was trending Alabama’s way and I think Georgia felt they had to shake up the momentum. I don’t really think they threw it away.

A big risk. If it had worked and Georgia won the game, he would be a genius. Georgia brought its A game today and it still was not enough. It's nice to have a backup QB with 26 wins. I was impressed by UCF coming from behind. Those guys have the longest winning streak in college football. They won't get in the playoff but did everything they could. Looks like Oklahoma is in good shape.
It was a huge and fatal risk. It never occurred to me that Georgia would fake the punt. Figured them to pin Bama deep with the back-up QB, and take the game to OT. To me, that was a terrible call, one that threw away their season. I just don't get it. -- Al

Bama was ready for it. Georgia should have recognized that and punted. The option is likely with the players in that situation. Fourth and 11 is a tough nut to convert unless they catch the defense off guard. It almost looked like Bama had their regular defense in the game. No way to convert in that situation.

Al...

I didn't think it was a really horrible call...gutsy but not horrible...an all or nothing call...Georgia was a 14 point dog...so they were probably delighted to be tied with 3 minutes left...

as Brad said...Alabama had momentum on their side...and from where Georgia had it on the field...they still had a chance to win a series on defense with a 3 and out if it failed...I think Georgia felt if they lost possession of the ball with a punt...that Alabama would score and win...

now...if it had worked...

just 20 more yards and they were in field goal range with virtually no time on the clock for Alabama to score...

if anything...I was surprised with the selection of the play they made on the fake...I think I would have thrown it...

one of those plays where you either look like a genius...or everybody blames you...^&grin

a very good game...Georgia gave as good as they got...

Mike, I get the gutsy, all or nothing type call but I just feel it was ill-advised, at best, horrendous at worst. UGa had outplayed Bama the whole game and I feel they could have continued to do so and should have played the more conservative line to take the game to OT. Pining Bama deep on the punt would have put the back-up Bama Qb under a lot of pressure so late in the game. Granted, the back-up is a very good Qb and proved what he could do, but moving 50 yards is a lot different than moving 80 yards in the last minutes. I simply feel that UGa would have had a least an equal chance in OT as opposed to giving Bama the ball at midfield, but then I'm a naturally a conservative type in high risk situations. ^&grin -- Al

Al...

I see your point...
and yes...
another 30-40 yards back would have given them a better chance for a stop on D...
but then you take your chances in OT...

Smart decided to roll the dice against a better team...
thinking if he could pull this off...
he may get the win...
didn't work...

even with 2 losses...
they may still be ranked #4...
considering who their loses were to and how they played tonight...
you may get to see them again...

So Georgia with two losses gets in, a team that lost in the conference championship game, while two one loss teams that won both of their conference championship games get left out?

Heads would explode everywhere if that happened.

Bama beat them fair and square, they blew a two two touchdown leads, 21-7 and 28-14, so they're out.

Eventually they're going to go to a 6 team playoff, you could make a case for Bama, Clemson, ND, OU, tOSU, Michigan, Georgia and CFU getting in.

It would be wildly entertaining, generate a **** ton of revenue and make the bowl games meaningful, they are all tire fires at this point...………...

It is going to leave more than one team upset when the choices are made.I have to agree with George, UGa is out with 2 losses. The choice will be between OSU and OU and that is going to be a tough one. -- Al

Georgia probably is out...
it makes no logical sense why with 2 losses they would be in...

I just got pumped up when I watched Smart's interview...
when he talked about "ask Alabama who they don't want to see in the top 4"...^&grin..

The fake punt was a gutsy call but poorly executed. Once Alabama saw that Georgia was using their back-up QB (Justin Fields) as the up-man "blocking" Bama left their regular defense in, lined up for a pass. UGA should have seen this and punted.

OMG! I just finished watching the recording. It was so hard to avoid info I felt like I knew Bama was going to lose. Made the end twice as sweet.

I agree it was a gutsy call on the fake punt, but either poorly executed or the wrong play. I dreaded seeing him line up for a pass but when it was a run I thought it was too low a percentage to be a good call.

Like George, the thing I am happiest about is Jalen’s redemption. That is a better quarterback, but love seeing Jalen get a chance to be a hero again.

Well, put one more heart wrenching football loss in the books for Ga / Atlanta fans. Doesn’t seem fair. But I guess, as William Munny said, “Deserve's got nothin' to do with it.”

The good news is nothing in MY life changes, either way. The future was always going to be unchanged, for me and legions of fans on both sides, regardless of the outcome.

The Dawgs did beat the spread by a mile (14pts?). So I presume betting Ga fans came out much better financially than betting Alabama fans Given the significant wealth disparity between the two states, that almost seems unfair. Lol

The fake punt call is either crazy bold or crazy dumb. No in between. But, given how they gave away the game last year by becoming too conservative, I applaud the bolder mentality, regardless of the outcome. (In pro football, I hate nothing less than the stupid “prevent” defense)

These games are too close, and the improbabilities too many, for this trend to continue, indefinitely.

The ultimate irony; in the same building last year, Bama switched QB's when behind and won the game, they did the same thing this year.

Different year, same result.

If the QB on the fake punt looked to his left, the punter or whoever that player was had the edge, there was no outside containment there, had he pitched the ball to him, he'd still be running.

I don't get the mentality of a trick play in that spot, just punt the ball and pin them deep, let your defense stop them and play for OT.

They fooled no one as Bama still had their base defense in on the play.

Just got text; Sooners are in...…………………………..just like they should have been; Bama/OU is going to be a wild affair, we'll see what the Bama defense does vs the #1 offense in the country. Whoever wins, I am happy and I'll have a dog in the national championship game fight...………………..have to say college football has it all over the NFL, at least for me, those were two great, great conference championship games yesterday...………………...

All this means is instead of 3 game, it’s a best of 5 game series.

UCF has won 25 straight games and two conference championships and didn't even get a sniff of the playoffs. If they win their bowl game, they will declare themselves national champions like back in the good old days. They probably couldn't beat Bama but I don't think anyone wanted to play them. We are going to find out real fast whether ND is for real or a pretender. They ran the table but turned out to have some easier that expected schedule with SC having a terrible year, Syracuse losing their QB, and Stanford not playing that well. They just squeaked by some teams like Vanderbilt.

Keep in mind I am a UT fan. However, I am glad OU got in. Of the four coaches in the playoff my favorite one is Lincoln Riley.

Also, that safety they got against UT in the Big-12 Championship game was amazing. UT wasn't ready for it and it was executed perfectly.

Urban Myer is gone at Ohio St. No great surprise given his obvious health issues and suspension.

Saban on the Dawgs

“One of the highlights of the news conference was Saban’s awkward attempt to explain why he said Georgia was one of the four best teams in the country immediately after the SEC Championship game – but then voted the Bulldogs No. 5 on his coaches poll ballot the next day.

Well, I do think they are one of the top four teams in the country,” Saban said. “But I don’t think they were going to get in the playoff with two losses, so I voted the teams that I thought had the best chance to get in.*“

What this basically indicates is that the SEC Championship game was a playoff game,” Saban continued. “It was a heck of a game. They played a great game, and they have a great team. I think they are one of the best four teams in the country, and that’s no disrespect to any of the people that are here. But I didn’t think they had a chance to get in with two losses.”*
