NCAA Football - 2018 (3 Viewers)

Urban Myer is gone at Ohio St. No great surprise given his obvious health issues and suspension.

Anyone who has a health issue where getting excited causes him a problem should not be coaching college football, or be a coach on any level as that is part of the job, other than coaches like Bud Grant, Joe Walsh or Tom Landry, I don't think the three of them changed facial expressions once while coaching.

This is the second time health concerns caused him to step down.

If he comes back a third time, he's got a screw loose.

These guys have such enormous egos that they can't simply walk away with their millions. I'm sure he will be back in a few years. Great record on the field. Not so much off the field where he has left a cloud over two programs now. A lot of burnout in the coaching ranks. Fans now expect to win every game or the coach is on the hot seat at most major programs. The pressure to win is enormous.

I think it's reasonable to expect success with the salaries top level coaches make. $5M + is a lot to pay for 7 or 8 wins. Chris

ESPN's College Game Day was at the Army Navy game today. The best sign in the crowd said:

Total Victories:

Alabama-17 National Championships

Army-2 World Wars

Big Game day at last. Have only watched one bowl game (Army v Houston) but I plan to 3x that total today. Would like to see Bama and Clemson win through. -- Al

I haven't watched any, except for five minutes of the Music City Bowl, a 7-5 team vs a 6-6 team. Really?? The market is saturated.

I'm hoping for a ND vs Bama final but it will probably be Clemson vs Bama.

I may watch some games on New Year's Day. At least you'll be watching teams that deserve to be there.

What a disaster that was. Midway through the 3rd quarter you could see in Kelly’s eyes that it was over.

Well, hardly a shock in the Orange Bowl as Oklahoma's horrid defense is living down to all expectations, trailing 21-0 in the 1st quarter. -- Al

A horrible night for football, if you like competitive games that is.

Much to my surprise, OK has made a game of this. It's all up to their defense, though. They have to get a stop and give their high-power offense a couple more shots. OK down 38-27 midway through the 4th. If only they had played better in the 1st quarter... -- Al

Well, so much for OK's defense. Bama leads 45-27 with 6 minutes left. Turn out the lights... -- Al

With no rooted interest in any teams I just wanted to see some good football, after all these games are supposed to match-up the best four in the country.

What a let down.

Although still dependent on how UGA performs in the Sugar Bowl against UT, these blowouts may well be used as ammo in future years for those who want an expanded playoff format and/or more sophisticated analysis (perhaps secret algorithms? 😆) as to which teams get to the BCS, beyond a pure focus on W/L records.

The only surprise, to me, in the games yesterday was how close OK actually got to Bama, thanks to their offense but OK's predictably awful defense just couldn't get a stop with the game on the line. ND's egg was expected. Bama v Clemson will be a good matchup. Can't bet against Bama, but I'd like to see Clemson do well and maybe even win, but I'll deny I said that if my brother asks. Anyway, Bama actually looked a little bit vulnerable on defense... -- Al

Well yesterday was awful...……….the first game was a snoozefest, totally non competitive.

I'm a Sooners fan first, Alabama fan third with Michigan in the middle, so the end result makes me somewhat happy, 6 of one, half dozen of the other, when OU got down 28-0, it was basically over.

And their QB, despite all the ballwashing of what a warrior he is, was for the most part terrible, throws either high or wide, maybe if he had been more accurate it would have been closer, but I still think OU has no chance vs Alabama, that defense is just putrid, they got roasted on slants and gashed in the running game all night long.

The two best teams will battle it out in the end, which is the way it should be.

Count me out as far as expanding the format to 8 teams as has been suggested; the goal is to have the two best teams play, not one of the best vs some cinderella team that catches lightning in a bottle. And I'm sure there will be those out there who claim they'd love to see some huge underdog sneak into the championship game...……….yeah, no thanks, I watch sports to see the best vs the best, not the best vs some lucky ***/horseshoe up their ***/tomato can sneak in, seen that twice now in two Super Bowls with the 10-6 and worse yet 9-7 Giants.

And truthfully, Georgia would have given both Clemson and Alabama better games yesterday, but they lost twice, so too bad, it is what it is.

I just hope the championship game lives up to the hype.

And as far as the rest of the bowl games; good lord, so many awful, awful games...……………...the main goal is for these kids to go to a bowl game as for 99% of them, it's their last football game ever and I get it, but wow, some real clunkers, I did not watch one second of any game other than the two yesterday, will probably watch the Rose Bowl as it's the granddaddy of them all and that field is legendary, but that will be it for me as I wait for January 7th...………..

I know that Nick Saban has a temper but his display yesterday went, in my opinion, way above what should be permitted, especially in this day and age; you should not be able to treat people that way, especially in public. In my time I worked for a couple of people like him and their yelling was counterproductive. On the other hand, near the end of my career, I worked for a person who was completely the opposite. Yes, he'd let us know if we made a mistake but he'd calmly suggest how we could have done it differently. No yelling or tantrums. The result: we all wanted to go through a wall for Bryan. I once yelled at a subordinate for a screwup and she hung up on me. I never did it again.
