Come on George

Wouldn't you like an 8 team tournament with the top 6 teams automatic qualifiers with next 4 highest teams playing for 2 remaining wildcard spots.

Now wouldn't that be fun. I mean it's all about entertainment right?

Okay that's being cynical...I actually believe it would be a farce if that happened. Yeah, I agree with you George, let's keep it real and meaningful the way it is currently.

I could see the NCAA doing that and for one reason and one reason only; $$$$$$$$$$$.

The problem with a playoff system is once you expand it, it gets watered down; does anyone really think there are 8 college teams worthy of being in a playoff, not to mention how many games are you going to make these kids play. You've got 11, then the conference championship game, then possibly 3 playoff games to determine a national champion?

Stick with 4 teams and go from there.

It's like the NFL, used to be the 2 division winners met with the winner going to the Super Bowl, then it expanded to 3 division winners and 1 wild card, now there are 4 division winners and 2 wild cards, pretty soon it will be 4 division winners and 4 wild cards.

Sorry, 9-7 teams do not belong in the playoffs, period, end of story.

Yes, imagine what Bama would have done to an undefeated UCF team who probably would have qualified in an eight team playoff. Maybe beat them by 70 points. The façade of college football being an amateur sport is almost completely gone but expanding the playoff system would make it basically a mini-NFL. The season would never end. Even the few players who might academically qualify couldn't possibly get anything out of a college education with a season that runs from August into February.

This recent article indicates that we now have in college football is an oligarchy, https://www.nytimes.com/2018/12/30/sports/alabama-clemson-college-football-playoff.html

As for college football, these days it resembles more of an oligarchy, with only a few teams seemingly in position to win national championships.

Alabama’s dominance is starting to remind me of the Yankees of the late 40s through the early 60s, an era memorialed in Peter Golenbock’s classic about the Yankees: “when rooting for the Yankees was like rooting for U.S. Steel.”

Perhaps we need something akin to a draft in CF so the Alabamas and Clemsons of the world are not grabbing all of the top high school players.

Awesome, or for today, like rooting for Amazon/Microsoft/Facebook.

Not much you can do about this, you can't force a kid to go to a lower tier school, they go where they want to go and right now, it's the SEC.

These things come in cycles though as at one time, Nebraska, USC, Miami, Florida and Florida State were all powerhouses, now they are all tire fires.

If Saban leaves Alabama, things might change..................

Word has it Alabama has the situation in hand when Saban decides to leave. Years ago, Bear Bryant's hair follicles were retrieved from his famous hounds tooth hat and these were use as a basis for cloning. Once Saban leaves, there are enough Bear clones in waiting to insure Bama superiority for decades. At least that's what Bama fans believe... -- Al

Exatcly right, and keep hearing about adding teams to b-ball tournament. :rolleyes2: As if 64 plus the play-in is not enough. Chris

I presume this is meant as a joke????

If there is any team that can give Bama a game, it is Clemson. But I still like Bama to win. My predictions is Bama 38 Clemson 30.

Have seen nothing that leads me to believe that Alabama can be beaten tonight. But if Clemson can somehow keep the game close and avoid being down by 20+ points in the 4th quarter, never say never... -- Al

Al,
I am curious to see if Saban can do it again, that in itself would be something to watch. Clemson is quite good and Dumbo knows Saban, but I can never root for a Clemson team as I do still have some allegiance to the Terps of old!

Tom, I understand. I can't root for any team in Carolina Blue, regardless of the sport.:wink2: On the point about Saban, if he wins again, at what point will Bama replace Bear's statue with a Saban statue?{sm3} -- Al

Surprise! 14 - 7 Clemson. Game on. ^&grin. Chris
Gonna be a barn burner. Hope it doesn't come down to FG for Bama as the kicker is iffy. I've got to go take a double dose of my BP medicine.:wink2: -- Al

14 points off of two INT's.

The first one was bad, the second he just heaved it downfield, I don't get it.

Just keep pounding the ball with the running game; down two scores you really can't do it now.

Tua needs to step up.

Alabama offense not playing their strengths and too many mistakes. Clemson very opportunistic, if Bama D doesn't stop, going to be a long night. Even the best teams have an off night, what a bad one to pick to have it! Clemson is getting stronger after a shaky start.
