I know that Nick Saban has a temper but his display yesterday went, in my opinion, way above what should be permitted, especially in this day and age; you should not be able to treat people that way, especially in public. In my time I worked for a couple of people like him and their yelling was counterproductive. On the other hand, near the end of my career, I worked for a person who was completely the opposite. Yes, he'd let us know if we made a mistake but he'd calmly suggest how we could have done it differently. No yelling or tantrums. The result: we all wanted to go through a wall for Bryan. I once yelled at a subordinate for a screwup and she hung up on me. I never did it again.

I thought he was going to stroke out at one point and I agree with you 100%, that display was embarrassing, berating that poor kid #74 and smashing his headset, not a good look at all.

I hoped Alabama won so I could see him lose his **** again on January 7th a few times.

And trust me as I was around it all my life with my Dad and a volcanic temper is not a good thing.

Ever.

I didn’t see him act that way but not surprised. To be honest, I don’t think it’s possible to have as much “success” (when measured purely in W and Ls) and be a nice guy.

I know lots of Alabam fans and they are a rabid bunch. As long as Saban is winning he is basically above reproach.

But we also know how that worked out for Paterno. He had God-like status, and let it get to his head, anything to win, including turning a blind eye to truly unfathomable acts.

I’m not saying Saban will meet a similar fate. But it won’t surprise me if his tenure ends badly, somehow, someway. The world of big time college football is so competitive that one must wonder as to what goes on there. I’d say the same thing about any entity, in any field, that was so ahead of its competition with no obvious or known advantage.

Remember Woody Hayes and Bob Knight? Same thing, school ADs and Presidents ignored bad behavior and media covered it up until it became impossible to ignore. The commentators never even mentioned Hayes choking a player during the bowl game. :rolleyes2: John Calipalri, UK basketball, rants at players every game. He throws tantrums and it's just embarrassing. Chris

Saban is an ego maniac. He has left many a team high and dry. Nice guys finish last in coaching. If you require your players to read and write, then you don't win every game by 50 points. His over signing and then pressuring players to take a medical out when they don't work out is legendary. Saban is all about Saban. With that said, the D coordinator for Clemson looked like Twitchy the Clown. I thought he was going to stroke out. Like some nitwit Barney Fife fan in a sports bar who had one too many.

I haven't watched any, except for five minutes of the Music City Bowl, a 7-5 team vs a 6-6 team. Really?? The market is saturated.

I'm hoping for a ND vs Bama final but it will probably be Clemson vs Bama.

I may watch some games on New Year's Day. At least you'll be watching teams that deserve to be there.
Saturated, indeed. I just did a count of televised bowl games on my cable system. From December 15 through next week's championship, there will have been 40 (FORTY!!) bowl games. Most of them were of absolutely no interest to me. Of the 28 bowl games played so far, I have watched 3. There are 6 today, won't watch any of those. May watch 2 of tomorrow's 5 games and I will watch the championship next Monday. This means I will have watched, maybe, 6 of 40 games. The advertiser's must be glad that I am not in their target audience. Personally, I find today's 'Twilight Zone' and 'Space:1999' marathons of much greater interest than all of these 'bowl' games. Too bad no one ran a 'Combat' marathon. I could really have gotten into watching Saunders and gang kick some Nazi butt.^&grin -- Al

Saban is a genius pure and simple, great recruiting, then great development, then great execution. Who knows if they can beat Clemson yet again, but it will be fun to watch. As they say...…….ALA...BAMA. Roll Tide! (I am not an Tide fan, but I do appreciate and respect what he has done, unbelievable). And for the record, I don't like Dumbo and the Clemson Clowns, still too many bad Bobby Ross Danny Ford Maryland memories when I was still a Terp. Again, Roll Tide over Dumbo and the Drug Users...……………!

Hey Chris, congrats on Kentucky's bowl win. They had a terrific year and reached the magic 10 win mark. The announcers kept saying it was their best team ever. ^&cool -- Al

My pet peeves for college football:

1) Star players passing on the bowl games. I can understand why but it comes off as selfish.

2) Ejecting players for targeting. Ridiculous. Particularly when an offensive player ducks and gets hit in the head as a result. Make it a 20 yard penalty but don't eject a player for one targeting call.

3). The wildcat. Hate it. Particularly when a team is rolling. Pulling the QB and going to an obvious run play. Ugh.

Good points, especially 1 & 2. Can't stand the ill applied 'targeting' rule. Seen it applied incorrectly too many times. I also have no use for the time run-off penalties. -- Al

Many thanks Al. Don't know if they're better than Bear Bryant's 1950 team, but best since I've been watching. We were biting our nails during the 4th qtr. Chris

Georgia doesn't seem to be having a good night. They're probably thinking of how they could have been the playoffs. You can't blame them for that.

It took me all season but I finally got my NCAA Football hat trick, albeit in bowl season. Stanford and Texas won their bowl games and Cal lost.

No way I thought Texas would beat Georgia but they did so pretty convincingly, close score or not. They got their 10 wins. Congratulations to our Texas fans. -- Al

The Texas Longhorn chasing the UGA mascot during the pre-game activities was a bad omen for Georgia. Probably spooked the players. ^&grin Chris

at 1,700 lbs....
Bevo looks dangerous and uncontrollable...
an accident waiting to happen...
I thought he has gonna kill that little bulldog on national tv.....

Georgia did not want to be there, pretty obvious by that effort, they did not practice well leading up to the game either from what I heard.

One of the most comical things I read was that Texas should have gone to the playoff ahead of the Sooners.

Yeah right, sure they should have, I'm sure they would have given Alabama a much better game.

Not the way I wanted their season to end.
I’m sure Coach Smart will use it to fire up the team next year.

I hear rumors that if when Saban retires, Alabama will pursue Dabo something fierce. Given that if Saban wins this year it will give him 7 National titles, one more than the Bear, that day might not be too far away. That would cause quite the stir among the college football ranks.

I am a UT fan and the thought that they should have been in the playoff is beyond comical. Their No. 14 ranking in the playoff is about right but one of the top 4 teams in the country? No way.

The problem with a playoff system is once you expand it, it gets watered down; does anyone really think there are 8 college teams worthy of being in a playoff, not to mention how many games are you going to make these kids play. You've got 11, then the conference championship game, then possibly 3 playoff games to determine a national champion?

Stick with 4 teams and go from there.

It's like the NFL, used to be the 2 division winners met with the winner going to the Super Bowl, then it expanded to 3 division winners and 1 wild card, now there are 4 division winners and 2 wild cards, pretty soon it will be 4 division winners and 4 wild cards.

Sorry, 9-7 teams do not belong in the playoffs, period, end of story.

if you watched that game...
Texas jumped on them early and often...
everything was going there way...
even on a 50 yard punt by Georgia...
the punter went to the ground to recover a bad snap...
and his knee touched the ground...
knee down...punt negated...
turning the ball over at that spot...
they did play good defense for 3 1/2 quarters...
still Georgia made a game of it...
Texas was getting +13 1/2 points...
