I wonder why the Big 10 has even bothered to try and play this season. I haven't counted the cancelled games, except for UMd, but there are a lot. UMd had 8 games on the season slate after the Big 10's late start. So far, 3 of 7 have been cancelled, leaving UMd with a 5 game season, IF they get the final game in against Rutgers. Why did they bother? The B-ball season is going the same way at this point with 3 of 6 games cancelled for UMd. What a joke. -- Al

Al:

Great post.

The playoff factors in many things with strength of schedule playing a huge part in rankings. Never mind the fact that Ohio State has only played 4 games, when all is said and done many of the teams that they have defeated will have barely played 4 games.

You can’t use strength of schedule when one team has played 10 games against a team that hasn't even played half of that.

There's much I don't understand in this bball season. Players are obviously in close contact during games and practice together. Yet they must sit apart while courtside and wear a mask. It was mentioned during the UK Kansas game players are wearing jerseys with a chip imbedded to track who they contact. Yet a Kansas player was obviously ill, as mentioned by Dickie V, played! {eek3} So much of this is just for show. Chris

I think that the rest of the college football season is going to be challenging at best.

The same goes for the entire basketball season, especially come tournament time. It seems inevitable that one team out of 64 will have an outbreak and with tight time constraints the team will have no choice but to forfeit calling into question the validity of the entire thing.

2 and 8 S Carolina is eligible to go to a bowl. The Gasparilla Bowl was mentioned. I guess it's about the tv money. Why would anyone travel to watch a 2-8 team other than parents of players? Why would advertisers buy time for a game like that? CHris

Proof positive that the 2020 NCAA football season has gone completely off the rails. What a joke. -- Al

USC had 5 total rushing yards last night but won by 25 points in a blowout. Wash. St. looked dismal. A lot of sloppy games due to the virus situation. You can see the impact on the quality of play for many teams.

I usually really look forward to bowl season but this year’s games are probably not going to hold my attention.

At this point I just hope that somehow Stanford plays Texas in the Whatever Bowl so I can get my “required” viewing out of the way.

The Michigan-Ohio St. game has been cancelled. Maybe the best break Michigan has got in this series in years. Ohio St. was something like a 30 point favorite and they would show no mercy on Jim Harblow.

I know it's all money driven, but the Big 10 has just been a disaster this season. Started late and multiple cancelled games every week. How is a team that has played 5 games even in the rankings against other teams with 9 or 10 games played, regardless of how good they are supposed to be? In the Big 10, only Indiana and Iowa have even played as many as 7 games, and the average works out to 5.8 games, whereas Maryland and Wisconsin have only played 4. The season has been a huge mistake and it continues to expose the teams to the covid danger week in and week out, regardless of the cancellations, which simply haven't prevented the spread. -- Al

I can see both sides of this. It does seem crazy to try to play these games during a pandemic but they offer some form of entertainment to the masses that have otherwise have limited options. The NCAA is almost as greedy as the NFL owners. If an asteroid were heading to Earth to end all life, they would try to play one last game for the TV money. So they will beat on like boats against the current as Old Scott Fitzgerald wrote.

I’ll preface this by stating I am a huge PAC 12 fan.

The Big 10 and PAC 12 should not have played college football this season.

My favorite game o' the season today, Army v Navy @ 3 pm. I wait all year for this matchup and haven't missed seeing one in years. I think Army has the edge this year, but one never knows in this rivalry. Just hope for a good game and that everyone stays healthy and safe. GO NAVY! -- Al

I don't anticipate much of a game but the setting will be great at West Point. And I think the President will be attending. My mighty Trojans will square off at the Rose Bowl tonight with UCLA. That's always a great venue. And both teams wear their home uniforms.

Have to say that I have been disappointed in the game, so far. Mainly because of the foggy weather, which has made it very difficult for me to focus on the screen. For whatever reason, my eyes won't adjust so I am more listening to the game than watching it at this point. -- Al

You are not missing much. It's definitely old school football. Like something out of a time machine. Except for Navy's wild uniforms this game could have been played in 1923. Navy's playbook consists of hey diddle diddle, this time we run up the middle.

Yep, Navy wasn't too good today. They have had a hard time rushing this year, compared to past years. Army had the horses today and looked much the better team. Plus, Army had home field advantage.:wink2: -- Al

That was an ugly game. I can appreciate the history and tradition but it was bad football. My Trojans aren't doing much better though.

Maybe they aren't winning at the moment, but it has been an entertaining game and the color prism is off the chart. Always a favorite when these 2 teams meet and where their home colors. World of difference between watching this game and the Army/Navy game this afternoon, what with the fog and the Army camo blending into the field. Couldn't see squat for most of that game. -- Al
