NCAA Football 2019 (3 Viewers)

I am really looking forward to the Army/Navy game later today.

For the first time in as long as I can remember (if ever) the game is being played on my birthday and I plan on making it an integral part of the day!

Two nephews in the Navy and brother-in-law retired Navy academy grad. Get 'um goat! With apologies to my Army son. {eek3}

Happy Bday! :salute:: Chris

Always been my favorite college game of the year. Been watching it since the early 60's when Rodger the Dodger led the Middies. Go Navy, Beat Army!^&grin And Happy Birthday!:salute:: -- Al
A game of inches between 2 evenly matched teams and Navy wins by a nose. Go Navy! -- Al

Al & Chris:

Thanks for the Happy Birthday Wishes!

This year’s game was great and well worth the watch.

I love college football and nothing embodies the true meaning of the game more than this rivalry, it was a real treat to watch it on my birthday.

Best,
Jason

Great game but those uniforms were awful. Particularly the Army uniforms.

They should wear those in combat; the enemy would drop their weapons and run for the hills at the sight of them.

The only Bowl game I've seen so far was the Pinstripe Bowl in which the Terps of UMD smashed VaTech 54-10. It was a pretty impressive game by the Terps. Surprised me. -- Al

UMD finished with its first winning season since 2014, that alone deserves some recognition.

For all the clamor about expanding the college football playoff, it is worth noting that these #1 and #4 matchups have historically been lopsided games. The commentors indicated that the average margin of victory has been 21 points. Imagine if you had a playoff with the top eight teams? Bama would be blowing out Ole Miss or Utah today by fifty points.

I am not sure why people keep saying that Alabama and Cincinnati was a mismatch.

After all, they are tied in academic rankings at #148.

After all that build up, two cures for insomnia yesterday, that second game was horrendously bad.

On another forum I belong to, someone was suggesting an 8 team playoff; oh sure, that sounds like a solid plan, the semi final games were so exciting, why not?

So, in the end, the two best teams will square off on the 10th for the title.

Sort of like it should be.

Nothing better than watching Jim "Hardblow" get taken to the woodshed. He's one of the most unlikeable coaches in all football. And that is saying a lot. Georgia was an angry team. I think Nick Satan went vanilla against Cincy confident the Tide could win based on his talent advantage. Not showing any of his cards for the championship game.

I thought Michigan would give Georgia a game.

I thought wrong.

Just watched the Rose Bowl; that game was ten times more entertaining than either game yesterday.

I wonder how Ohio State would have done vs Georgia.

We'll never know.

Britain Covey’s press conference after Utah’s Rose Bowl lose is what college sports should be about.

But it simply isn’t. There is too much emphasis on the wrong things and the wrong schools.

College football pretends to be the precursor to NFL success, however accomplishments at the next level are measured by championships. Yet no Alabama quarterback has won a Super Bowl since Ken Stabler 800 years ago.

Two things that will continually to IMO adversely affect College - licensing deals and the transfer portals. The licensing is going to really change recruiting. The programs can now legally recruit using the lure of 7 figure contracts for the licensing image. While on one hand the business person in me agrees, however, this is amateur sports and as such, all customs previously associated with amateur sports should remain. Just my opinion, but will be interesting on how it plays out.

A few thoughts I posted to my FB friends about the upcoming game.......

A few thoughts on the upcoming Georgia vs. Alabama championship game:

I noticed that we are a 3 pt. favorite by the oddsmakers. I know that to some that may seem ludicrous and have heard some of my friends say such. Alabama just a few weeks ago beat us by 17 and made our vaunted defense look very vulnerable. But this vote of confidence by the oddsmakers to me is not really surprising. Let me explain. I think they are looking at the whole body of work... i.e the entire season not just one game. Sure we looked bad that SEC championship game and Alabama looked like world beaters, but in our other 13 games we were dominant. Alabama on the other hand did in fact look vulnerable in several very close games and the loss to Texas A&M. Alabama beat Florida and Auburn both by 2 points and Arkansas by 7. We blew out all 3 of those teams. We beat Florida by 27, Auburn by 24 and Arkansas by 37. Well you might say Alabama is finally gelling at the right time.... but their last regular season game was against Auburn in which Bryce Young was sacked 7 times and they didn't score their first touchdown until the last minute of the game sending the game to overtime against a mediocre 6-7 Auburn team. I think the oddsmakers are saying the UGA has a better overall team than Alabama and I would agree. I think as a whole, we are a little better. I think it's clear to the whole nation now that these 2 are the 2 best in college football. Cincinnati and Michigan really were both overmatched. Back to the upcoming game. I think our recent lack of success against Alabama must be a mental thing. I feel like the SEC championship game this showed itself in a lack of confidence and "deer in the headlights" mentality. I really feel like if we can come out with confidence and a belief that we can play like we have all year (except for one game) we can win this game. Of course Alabama is a great team with probably the best coach of all time so easier said than done. But I truly believe (as I guess the oddsmakers do as well) that we have the best overall team. We just have to have the right frame of mind and not go out there thinking "we're playing Alabama". Of course the game is decided on the field and not by the oddsmakers or who on paper might have the better team. One last comment.... to all those that have been saying we can't with the Nat. Championship with Stetson Bennet as QB, I totally disagree. This young man has had an excellent year and is a team player and of course we can win it all with him as the leader of the offense. Anyway sorry for the rant. Go Dawgs!

I think another thing going for GA in this game - it is hard enough to beat a rival once in a given year, beating them twice usually doesn't happen. There are a lot of statistics from years past where the team that lost earlier in the same season predominantly wins the rematch. I bet no pun intended the oddsmakers have that in their algorithm too! Anyhow, GA is very impressive and on paper it should be a good game. My prediction - if the GA defense shows up and plays their tempo and their game, GA wins and it may not be by a little. On the other hand, I don't ever like not picking Saban, he is probably the best coach of my lifetime watching thus far and you know I am a believer in Saint Bobby Bowden!

Good luck to GA!

Tom

Nothing would surprise me for the outcome of the Bama-Georgia game. Bama had a chip on their shoulder for the first game. Georgia seemingly is in that position for the championship game. Bama played almost a perfect game in the SEC title game. Can't see them doing it again. But the choke factor is hanging out there for the Bulldogs. Bama seems to have Georgia's number. So I'll make a predict with the same confidence level that I'm winning the Powerball:

Bama 31
Georgia 28

Thanks Tom. We are certainly due... past due. I have heard the hard to beat twice in the same season analogy and hope that holds true in this case. Bobby Bowden was a great coach and even greater man. I had the honor of meeting and talking with him a few times over the years and he was what you would think.... a down to earth guy, friendly, and one that seemed to never meet a stranger.

The main thing that irks me isthe “big game” start time of 8:00 pm EST on a Monday night. All about the dollars. Heck, if it’s a close game I will have to stay up well past my bedtime!
