NCAA Football 2019 (3 Viewers)

Congrats to UGA and all of their long suffering fans!

Georgia had a great season, played a great Championship Game and got a huge win.

As for Alabama fans? Don’t worry you will be back in the playoff next year and thanks to college football’s inevitable predictably you will no doubt be playing Georgia again…….

Georgia was the better team last night. The injuries to the Bama receivers were killers. Lots of trips to the red zone with only FGs. Those are the breaks. You have to wonder how long Saban wants to continue. He is on an historic run, but coaching takes its toll.

Think he'll stay to get one more championship and break the record at AL. Chris

What a choke job by Georgia again. They went down like the Titanic after being up 10-0. No way should they make the playoff. I dislike Saban but he is the greatest college football coach in history. Coming off that brutal Auburn game to torch Georgia was unbelievable. It also highlights how soft the SEC is beyond Bama. Georgia's D for the ages was absolutely torched. They were a fraud.

I didnt understand the vitriol of the first post, nor do I get the negative tone of the second. But ok.

I believe in telling it like it is. First, congrats to GA, they wanted it more. Next - in the first game, GA got pasted and looked like they didn't belong, no ifs and or buts, they got a good ole fashioned Whos Your Daddy. Last night, they rebounded and it was going down to the wire. GA's defense won that game IMO, if Alabama is not stopped in the Red Zone, that game looks just like the last one. End of day, I believe they are the 2 best teams in the Country and if they play a third time, not one is guaranteed to win, they are that close. As I said previously, beating a team is hard to do once in a season, odds are against you to do it twice. Georgia did a great job of learning and adjusting from the first game on defense. However, if not for that defense, IMO they would not have won. I am not a big believer in that QB, he made plays when necessary, but he was also one play away from disaster at all times.

Again, end of day, GA won the big game fair, square and well deserved.

I think you are right and odds are he will do it. Man, have a lot of respect for him as a coach, but honestly, everytime I see him, I think of Darth Vader and all the previous assistants he now coaches against are Luke(s) Skywalker(s)!

Tom,
I'm glad it was a good game and GA came out victorious. I really enjoyed it. The hitting was vicious. Like you said, if they played again, it would be a toss up. I'm sure AL will be right back in it next year as always. Saban's system is the best I've ever seen. The Stetson Bennet love fest at the end of the game was really overblown though. Man, they were laying it on heavy. Sure it's a good story, but the GA defense was the difference. Everyone played a part, but the defense was the unit deserving of the richest accolades not the shaky QB.

I am really enjoying the very public spat between Nick Sabin and Jimbo (aka John James) Fisher.

Ask away. I don't show up here once in a blue moon with an axe to grind only AFTER my team has won. Once in every 40 years or so.

Given there are 130 NCAA Division 1 football teams, Id say thats a pretty good record. Certainly above average.

BTW, how'd that "fraud" of defense (your word) do in the NFL draft?

"Georgia sets the NFL draft record with 15 selections after Derion Kendrick and John Fitzpatrick go back-to-back in the sixth round. Georgia also set a record with five defenders selected Thursday. It is the most defensive players selected in the first round from one school since 1967"

Combat: What a choke job by Georgia again. They went down like the Titanic after being up 10-0. No way should they make the playoff. LOL. Rut shows up on the rare occasion that one of his teams wins. Trolls and disappears. Classy.

Nah, Im here. Meanwhile, you went ad hominem, per your usual. Now that's classy!

USC and UCLA to the Big Ten. Wow. That is big news. Not great for traditionalists but the right move. The PAC has been sinking for many years. They did a horrible job marketing that conference. A big money deal.

From a sports legacy perspective the PAC-12 is losing two historical athletic college programs.

From an academic perspective the PAC-12 is losing two top academic colleges.

Then again no one cares about the “college” part of “college athletics”.

Was stunned by this move. I still haven't gotten used to the idea that UMd is a Big 10 institution. It does give the Big 10 an East to West reach but it will take forever for me to adjust to this. Tradition is DOA in college. -- Al

Just get rid of conferences at this point, make a centrally scheduled league separated from the other sports, and let college football be the pro game that it is.

This is so stupid.

It's weird living in PA and being a USC alum. The folks around here are solid Penn St. fans. They are mostly confused about two California teams in the Big Ten. But some good vacation opportunities to escape the winters for a game in LA. Then the TV commenters will make some remark about all the Penn St fans in the Coliseum as though the 80 degree weather has nothing to do with the fact that cold weather fans travel in large numbers to these games. They will attribute it to weak LA fan support etc. USC is building a monster program, though. They have the coach, the tradition, the Hollywood locale, and they are now free of the feeble PAC. Players are going to flock there. It will take a year or so to undo the disaster left by Clay "Gomer" Helton but they are rolling. If you ever want a good laugh, take a look at some of those facial expressions from Helton while coaching at USC. Deer in the headlights.

You used to root for a school because you went there or you had a connection to that school via family or geography.

Today, the vast majority of TV viewership for college football is for gambling purposes and TV money is what has drawn the likes of great academic institutions like USC and UCLA to relocate.

From a mathematics program standpoint UCLA ranks 7th in the nation and USC ranks 22nd.

I guess they ran the numbers……..
