Actually someone on another forum made a great point; it would work the other way around, a star at a second tier school would transfer to an elite school, so the rich will get richer.

I'm thinking that a lot of quality players who are recruited to elite schools and don't make the cut will transfer elsewhere. Lesser teams have the roster space to add elite players. Teams like Bama are not going to have the scholarships to add many new players. USC is in a unique situation in that an elite coach came to the school and brought his Heisman-level QB. Otherwise there is no way Caleb Williams jumps ship as the starter of Oklahoma.
