NCAA Football 2019 (1 Viewer)

Some interesting matchups this week. My predicts:

LSU 27 TN 24 - a lot of buzz about TN who has been a SEC bottom dweller for years and LSU had a tough game last week. I think LSU still wins at home unless Brian "y'all" Kelly with his newfound southern accent finds a way to blow it.

TCU 35 Kansas 17 - Like TN, Kansas is getting plenty of buzz but they get rolled.

Texas 38 Oklahoma 13 - How the mighty have fallen. I'm hesitant to pick a Steve "seven win" Sark team to win a big rivalry game but OK may be toast after losing Williams and Riley to USC.

Utah 24 UCLA 20 - The Utes are not the same team on the road and UCLA has a great QB, but the Bruins may get exposed by a more physical team. Huge game in the PAC.

Texas A&M has one play to pull the upset of the year from the two-yard line and Jimbo calls a bonehead low percentage pass that even if completed doesn't win the game. This is a guy who gets paid tens of millions. Unreal.

Couple of quick comments:

A. My son was very happy! Hook Em - complete wiping of the field by Texas over Oklahoma. Sark has changed the tone here at Texas, I hope it continues. They are performing at a high level, they are still not quite complete, but are getting there. Should be a fun next few years!

B. Florida State - gdit. They may have been screwed by the officials at the end, but you can't let a 2 touchdown lead evaporate on your own. Yes NC State came back, but how many dropped passes for big gains can one do, how many out of place defensive mistakes can you make and hope to win? End of day, they blew that game on their own. Still got another year to go before back to form in the manner of competitiveness in my opnion.

C. Alabama - Happy for them, they tried to give it away, but always nice seeing Jimbo Fisher lose.

Some huge games this weekend. My predicts. Make sure to bet the opposite.

Michigan 31 Penn. St. 20 - Penn St. always starts the season out like world beaters until they play Michigan or Ohio St. Then they are exposed.

Utah 24 USC 21- The Utes will run over the pathetic SC defense and keep their offense off the field. Wear them out and win at home in a close one.

Bama 34 TN 30- Knoxville will be rocking. They are ready from some whoop arse after years of beatdowns but never bet against Nick Satan.

TCU 48 OK St. 41 - I know nothing about either of these teams except they are both ranked and seem to score a lot of points.

Three of my favorites are still in play; Alabama, Michigan and USC, Oklahoma got rolled in the red river shootout (what else is new, they lose that game seems like every year, makes the season for Texas, then they do nothing the rest of the year), they were toast before that game anyway with 2 losses.

It's a given that SC's defense is weak, although they have generated a lot of TO's. But take a closer look at Utah's defensive stats. You might be surprised. If you remove the game they played against mighty Southern UT, you will find that the Ute's D is performing quite similarly to USC's. USC is actually statistically better than Utah on D if you remove the S. Utah game. So far this year, the 2022 Utah D is not as stout as we're used to seeing. They can and will be run on. So let's say both defenses are equally poor. Who has the better offense? I have not studied Utah's special teams, but have to think they have an advantage there, but w/ Raleek Brown returning kickoffs now things could get interesting. Rice-Eccles will be seriously rockin' that's for sure, but I think SC gets the win in a very close game.

Gosh, I sure hope so; poor Combat, his sports luck between the Rams and Dodgers lately has really been in the toilet, hopefully USC will pull out a win to cheer him up, he can really use a boost.

Meanwhile, here in Boston, we haven't had a parade since February of 2019, no kid 3 years old or younger has seen a victory parade.

Poor kids.

Lincoln Riley was never going to come to USC and instill a defense.

He might let the other team score 45, but he is going to score 48 or more.

Hook Em! Another Texas Win. Not sure if anyone saw the game, but kudos to the Texas defender at the end with a perfectly legal (although it was not flagged, reviewed, but the announcers thought it was targeting until the review of the fumble) hit that caused the game winning defensive stand. The Iowa State coach was irate, but I hope after he reviews the footage he calms down! Football is a violent sport even with the new rules and if you care to watch this hit, it is a testament to that. The defender came up and drove into the shoulder of the QB who was coming forward. On first glance, you think ouch that is targeting, however after review, it is literally one of the most perfect and albeit violent hits I have ever seen and legal. Football is a choice and hits like this remind one of that. I like it to boxing, you certainly should know what you are getting into. I do hope the Iowa State QB is ok, he looked to be, but you have to question what ramifications to his body a hit like that does. But again, that is the epitome of the game.

Hopefully Florida State can stay within 30 of Clemson tonight..................

I nominate the Bama/Tenn game for 'Game O' the Year' status after what was the most entertaining football game I have seen in ages. Congratulations to the Vols. Terrific win. I do hope the Bama placekicker has a Plan B for his return to Alabama... -- Al

I concur!! What a game!!! Was hoping for OT as I didn't want to see it end!! Congrats to the Vols for a gritty win, hopefully a rematch at some point with Bama.

Wow, spot on, their offense was great tonight, but their defense was offensive.

A rematch in the SEC Championship game maybe, but Georgia will have something to say about that as Tennessee would have to beat them to get there.

FSU played surprisingly well against Clemson, if not for the last 4 mins of the first half and first 2 of the second half, they are getting better and more competitive, came down to an onside kick late. I guess I should be happy, but still hate losing to Dumbo.

Alabama, wow. Their defense just could not get the final stop and the TN team made some amazing plays, they deserved that win. SEC is going to be very interesting with TN, GA, MS and of course Bama. Throw in MS State as a spoiler and watch out.

USC, that was a costly loss. I thought they had that game put to bed.

One of the better weekends of football!> This year, college has been way more fun to watch than pro football. I know the Steelers stink this year, but watching other games around the league have been a bore and waste of time for this fan, IMO it is a bad product. College has exceeded my expectations in every game I have watched.

There was no better example of why USC and UCLA are leaving the PAC 12 than the SC/Utah game last night. The officiating was atrocious. Maybe the worst that I have seen in watching 50 years of college football. Even the commentators who are paid to toe the line were outraged. Bad call after bad call. Most went against SC but a few went against Utah. Flag after flag followed by long conferences, reversals, more discussion, confusion. The bizarre reviews for targeting, the pathetic roughing the passer calls, stopping the clock because someone called timeout during an INT return. It is amateur hour in the PAC.

What I don't get is on the INT during the pass interference call, the clock kept running; once it was determined there was penalty, the clock should go back to when the interference happened, they ran time off the clock, but then put it back on due to a time out?

As you said, just a total clownshow.

TN is asking for donations to pay for the goal posts that were torn down after the game. This is a school that pays their coach $5 million per year and has an endowment of over $1 billion, but they need charity to replace a couple of goal posts. The university system is completely corrupt. What a scam those academic administrators have going. Work two days a week for eight months out of the year.

Does anyone else find the sec looney for fining the tennessee volunteers 100,000 for the celebration? I think that is idiotic.
