NCAA Football 2019 (3 Viewers)

I'm glad someone is. Painful to watch this SC team. So much talent wasted. One of the weakest SC teams since Paul Hackett. And that's saying a lot with the terrible coaches that we have had. Lame Kiffin. "Seven Win" Sark (drunk or sober). Clay "Shazam" Helton.

They need another Pete Carroll type to help them learn to play defense.............looking back, he was a great college coach, he's a ****ed good NFL coach too, but he was great in college.

A lot of old school powerhouses are in ruins. USC, Florida, LSU, Florida St., Texas, and Tennessee. The SEC gets a lot of buzz because of Bama's historic run but top to bottom a lot of teams in that conference are not very good. Vanderbilt is one of the worst teams in college football. TN has been bad for so long it is hard to remember them being competitive. LSU and Auburn have had their moments but aren't very good this year. Florida has collapsed. Bama is so good, though, that they carry the SEC. And someone like Georgia, LSU, and Auburn have the occasional great year. Still it's night and day with the PAC12 which is amateur hour in comparison.

Florida State wins again, never thought I would be so happy at the thought of potentially ending 6-6 and squeaking into a bowl game...................still have to beat Florida which is always a tall order. This team has flashes of brilliance like the Notre Dame game, but on a whole, lot of work to do, but improving better than I thought. Oh well, on to next year.

Regarding the other teams - amazing how teams play to their competition. Alabama - Arkansas has improved a great deal, they are a pain in the butt, but when it mattered Alabama moved the ball at will. I still wouldn't count them out. Georgia - if their D stays healthy and runs their gameplan, not sure how they get beat, they are just a machine this year. Ohio State - I don't know if they are peaking or just exposing the other Big 10 teams as mediocre. Notre Dame - what can you say, they have a couple of tough games, but their schedule is cupcake at the end of the day, the teams on their schedule for the most part are and continue to fall apart. They got beat by Cincy. Next Big 12 - disaster, I don't know how good or bad the OK and OKS teams are, but we will find out this weekend. PAC 12 - lots of talented teams, but the talent is spread out and you see what happens , not one dominant team.

At the end of the day - I think the winner will come out of the SEC, if I was a gambler, I put my money on those teams. If Ohio State blows out Michigan, maybe I become more of a believer.

First of two big games to watch, among many, this weekend for me and family is The Egg Bowl tonight. Wife's team Miss State taking on #8 Ol Miss, her sister's school. And Saturday is Kentucky vs Louisville, biggest game of the year for both schools. Doesn't matter what the over all records in these games, it's for bragging rights for the next 12 mos. Chris

Miss State shot themselves in the foot multiple times. First and goal and dropped three consecutive passes that would have been a TD. One bounced off the receiver's face mask. THen missed the FG attempt. Defense was a sieve.

Hoping UK fares better.

And how 'bout them Ducks?

I enjoyed watching this game, it was an entertaining rivalry game. Really no skin in the game either way, but have followed the Rebels over the years as they usually are exciting and I like SEC football. 2 very good coaches. That series you reference, holy smokes, that was a calamity of errors, I could not believe either the dropped passes. I think Ole Miss wanted this game more than State.

Another little known rule, at least to me, player must stop when losing helmet. Florida player had helmet pulled off by FSU defense (and that's a penalty as well) but continues into end zone. No TD as he was supposed to end play when he lost the helmet. I understand the safety first rule but still seems odd to me. Chris

Yes, I've seen that one a few times including in the Bama game today. Not a single time has the player stopped playing. They get an absurd 15-yard penalty. It's contrary to every instinct of a player. Some great rivalry games today. I dislike Jim "Harblow" like poison at Michigan but I'm also tired of Ohio St. So no great loss to see them finally go down. A great college football atmosphere with the snow and fans. Same for the Auburn game. As someone who has suffered through the PAC 12's miserable season, watching the Michigan and Bama games was a night and day difference from the PAC. A different level from PAC football which is in a pathetic state.

Same here. We wanted Michigan to win despite Harbough, tired of all the OSU stuff. And I told my sons before the game, "this is how football is supposed to be played, in the snow and cold."

Auburn out played Alabama for most of the game. Thought they were going to win until that final AL drive. Knew it was over for Auburn when the game went to OT.

BTW, Kentucky crushed their in state rival Louisville, now three straight blowouts. ^&grin Chris

Locals had a productive day as the Terps won to become 'Bowl eligible' for the first time in 6 years at the impressive record of 6-6 and the USNA won to avoid the possibility of a 10-loss year as they are now 3-8 with only the Army game remaining. So, a good weekend for a change. -- Al

Al,
MD with that impressive record thinks they are playing for the national title according to local tv.................................................just like when the Ravens win, they are going to the Super Bowl. I mean you just can't make MD sportscasters up. Good lord.

On the other note - FSU was not bowl eligible due to loss at Florida. Was not impressed with their effort at all today. Felt like slightly backward movement to end the season.

Bama - resilient but they didn't play well, that said, it all comes down to Georgia. Michigan - impressive but now they need to beat Iowa to stay in. Oklahoma State - exciting game, they wanted it more and overcame 2 dumb errors as they IMO outplayed Oklahoma and the right team won.

Last note - I don't think Notre Dame deserves to be in the Playoff and I hope that nonsense ends right now. I also think it is ridiculous that all of the top teams have to play a meaningless conference championship game that will count against them if they lose. BS IMO

Lincoln Riley to USC! Finally some good news for USC fans after decades of awful coaching hires. Riley should be able to recruit like a madman in California. It will still take two or three years to get that program back on track after Clay "Gomer" Helton's disaster.

Lincoln Riley coached at Oklahoma for 5 years.

3 of his 5 quarterbacks in those years is a starting QB in the NFL.

No college coach can claim that and come recruiting time that matters.

Brian Kelly to LSU is another huge coaching jump. I guess he figures that he has taken ND as far as possible.

While I was watching the release of the new CFP rankings just about every expert on ESPN agreed that Notre Dame and Ohio State could easily make the playoffs if multiple teams lost in their respective championship games.

So if you don’t make it to your championship game or don’t have one you can get in before teams that did win their championship?

Bama-Georgia should be a great game. Bama has shown signs of being mortal. Coming off a tough 3OT game that they should have lost. Usually that means trouble rebounding for the next game. Georgia has looked invincible. Typically that would mean a big Bulldog win, but their history of choking might mean they get tight if the game stays close. Tough to bet against Saban in these types of big games.

Ga is currently a 6.5 point favorite and, as such, finally ends Bamas streak of 93 straight games as the betting favorite.

Not to say Georgia is a lock. That’s why they play the games, despite the oddsmakers;)

That is correct. AL did not even win the SEC west in 2017 and consequently did not play for the SEC conference championship, but they became nation champions nonetheless as AL was still ultimately selected for the BCS playoffs. Auburn (who beat AL in 2017's Iron bowl) made it to the SEC championship game vs GA but lost. This opened the door for AL to get the votes needed to waltz through to the final four having played no one on championship weekend.
I believe there was a similar situation another year involving the Big 10, but I'd have to look back. I seem to recall Penn St and Ohio St were involved, but the mind has dulled some, lol.

I'm really looking forward to this game. I've watched almost every GA game this year, and love their rabid defense. I just don't see AL being able to score enough against that defense, while GA will manufacture some points even if their starting QB was to go down. Also, this AL defense can be scored on. I think GA will run right at them early and often and try to soften them up in what will mostly be a field position game early on before GA pulls away some in the 3rd qtr and expands their lead in the 4th. It should be a fun one matter what happens.

Joe:

Great post.

Clearly the committee has always valued name over substance.

I fear this year will be no different.
